Dear Friends and Supporters:I created the ANNIKA Foundation in 2007 to teach children the importance of living a healthy, active lifestyle through fitness and nutrition, and to offer aspiring junior golfers the opportunities to pursue their dreams. The last seven years our programming has positively impacted thousands of kids and enabled us to build exciting new global partnerships.

For example, our Foundation has worked with The First Tee to implement the “Nine Healthy Habits,” a new health and wellness curriculum. We have also continued our partnership with SPARK, the leading physical education program for children in schools. In 2012-13, with the help of the Blue Cross Blue Shield Foundation, we awarded $100,000 to establish SPARK in 20 Orange County (FL) elementary schools.

On the junior golf front, our girls’ tournament – the ANNIKA Invitational – has been consistently ranked one of the world’s top events. It has been recognized by the American Junior Golf Association as its Newcomer of the Year (’09), Invitational of the Year (’10) and Best Media (’11) award winner. Rallying off these accolades, we added the ANNIKA Invitational at Mission Hills in 2011, the first all-girls event in China, and this past year’s inaugural ANNIKA Invitational Europe in my home country of Sweden. We are exploring other nations for ANNIKA Invitational events to help generate even more interest in girls’ golf around the world. We will continue to use these tournaments as a platform to educate girls about health, wellness, course management, media relations and college preparation.

Finally, our Foundation is thrilled to announce a new partnership with 3M. The Fortune 500 company will be the Presenting Sponsor of our newest initiatives focused on bridging the gap between junior and professional golf. With the support of the Haskins Commission and Golfweek, we created the ANNIKA Award Presented By 3M, which will be given annually to the best collegiate female golfer. In concert with the award, we launched the ANNIKA Intercollegiate Presented By 3M, a college tournament featuring 12 of the top Division I schools. It will be held September 27-30, 2014 on the challenging Watson Course at Reunion Resort. Because 3M is an innovative global company that champions diversity, women, and integrity, it will also support our global series of junior girls tournaments. We’re excited to continue to inspire the next generation of golfers together!

The creation of the ANNIKA Award Presented By 3M was announced at the 2013 Kraft Nabisco Championship. It will be the most prestigious honor in women’s college golf, recognizing the most outstanding female player. Beginning in 2014, the award winner will be selected via player, coach and media votes. She will receive a sponsor’s invitation to the Kraft Nabisco Championship and be presented the award at the ANNIKA Intercollegiate Presented By 3M.

The ANNIKA Intercollegiate Presented By 3M is a 54-hole, stroke play tournament for 12 of the top women’s Division I programs. Its inaugural edition will take place September 27-30, 2014 on Reunion Resort’s Watson Course. This event now affords Annika a platform to stay connected with players from junior golf through college and into the professional ranks. The ANNIKA Award Presented By 3M will be presented at a gala dinner during the tournament.

Each year the ANNIKA Foundation selects two successful Swedish junior golfers (one girl, one boy) to travel to the United States to visit top universities, attend a PGA Tour or LPGA event and work on their golf games with Annika. They enjoy a unique opportunity to tour university campuses and meet with college coaches, as well as learn Annika’s secrets to swing mechanics, course management, tournament preparation, fitness and nutrition.

Annika and her home club, Bro-Balsta GK, created the ANNIKA Junior Girls Scholarship in 1996 to provide an annual scholarship to a Swedish junior who best exemplifies Annika’s integrity, principles and character.

ANNIKA invitational usaThe ANNIKA Foundation partnered with the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) in 2009 to create the ANNIKA Invitational USA. A field of 72 top U.S. and international players compete in the 54-hole, stroke-play event. During the week, competitors are treated to a Junior-Am, golf clinic and education seminars conducted by Annika and her team on media training, health and nutrition. The event has been recognized by the AJGA as its Newcomer of the Year (2009), Invitational of the Year (2010) and Best Media (2011) award winner. In 2013 alone over 50 Division I Women’s Coaches attended the tournament.

Proceeds from the event have endowed a $100,000 Achieving Competitive Excellence (ACE) Grant, which provides golf opportunities for young players, regardless of financial ability.

ANNIKA invitational mission hillsFounded on the heels of the successful ANNIKA Invitational USA, the ANNIKA Invitational at Mission Hills was created in 2011 and is held annually on the Annika Course at China’s Mission Hills Resort. It is the country’s first all-girls junior golf event. Each year, the champion receives an exemption into the LET’s Mission Hills World Ladies Championship, while the top three finishers are invited to compete in the ANNIKA Invitational USA.

ANNIKA invitational europeThe inaugural ANNIKA Invitational Europe – the third event and third continent for the ANNIKA Invitational series – was held in late summer 2012 in Linkoping, Sweden. Modeled after the ANNIKA Invitational USA, the event features 78 of the best female European golfers competing over 54 holes and also has educational training sessions led by Annika and her team. In 2013, it moved to Landskrona Golf Club in Landskrona, Sweden. The champion earns an LET exemption into the Helsingborg Open, while the top three finishers are invited to compete in the ANNIKA Invitational USA.

The ANNIKA Cup is an annual match play competition for 12 of the top female amateur girls in Sweden. It is held on Annika’s home course of Bro-Balsta GK in Bro, Sweden. The tournament integrates training with a competition element. It introduces drills and techniques Annika uses and that her team teaches at the ANNIKA Academy. The girls are also split into two teams of six to compete against each other in singles match play. On the last day of the event, Annika conducts a clinic for the girls, hosts a Q&A session and then sits down with them for lunch.

Each year the ANNIKA Foundation invites 80-100 juniors from the local community to participate in ANNIKA Junior Day in Memory of Holly Baxter. The event is held at the ANNIKA Academy at Reunion Resort. The idea came from Bob Baxter who lost his wife, Holly, to brain cancer in 2007. Children are invited spend a day at the ANNIKA Academy learning golf fundamentals from Annika’s team and the importance of fitness and nutrition. They are also treated to a healthy lunch and clinic from Annika. Participating groups have included the Orlando Minority Youth Golf Association, The Boys & Girls Club of Central Florida and The First Tee of Central Florida.

In 2009, the ANNIKA Foundation partnered with the Women’s Sports Foundation (WSF) to create the ANNIKA Inspiration Award, a national title given annually to a young female athlete who not only excels in her sport, but demonstrates leadership, provides inspiration for others and gives back to her community. As part of its Annual Salute to Women in Sports Gala, the WSF presents five major awards across all female sports.

Lianna Thomas, a competitive figure skater from Irvine, California, was the recipient of the 2012 ANNIKA Inspiration Award. Thomas was adopted from her native China by her U.S. family when she was just an infant. Having skated since she was 5 years old, she drew on her life experiences to give back to the community. She founded Ice Pandas in 2009. It is a program which introduces figure skating as a confidence-building activity for children adopted from China. Lianna moved from New York to California in 2012 to train and organized a new Ice Pandas group.

In 2011, she received the Presidential Bronze Award for Service, awarded by the U.S. Government to honor Americans who meet a high standard of commitment to volunteer service, and the Guanyin Award from Families with Children from China of Greater New York (FCCNY) for her outstanding work in the community. In addition to all this work, Lianna started an after-school reading group for adopted children and raised money for the Red Cross for victims of the Haiti earthquake. An inspiration to young figure skaters, she has transcended her sport and, in doing so, aspires to become a positive role model for everyone all over the world.

ANNIKA inspiration awardSince 2010, the ANNIKA Foundation has worked closely with The First Tee, a youth development organization that provides character education through golf, as well as the Florida Hospital for Children, to develop “Nine Healthy Habits.” It is a health and wellness framework for children. As national spokesperson, Annika brings recognition and attention to this innovative program.

Annika was vital to the re-launch of the The First Tee of Central Florida in 2012. On the “Preview Day,” she hosted a clinic at the Bay Hill Club & Lodge for more than 50 participants from the Boys and Girls Club of Central Florida. Annika also serves as an honorary board member to The First Tee of Central Florida.

Earlier this year, Annika spoke at The First Tee’s Network Meeting in Nashville and also participated in a session about childhood obesity and how golf can help, a youth summit identifying how leaders rally community support to solve complex problems, and a workshop outlining the Nine Healthy Habits.

The ANNIKA Foundation is proud to partner with SPARK, the leading physical education program for children in schools. We’ve helped grow the SPARK message and mission of lifelong wellness to include 400 schools (and counting) across Florida and Arkansas, impacting thousands of kids. The ANNIKA Foundation believes that by reaching directly into schools, we can instill good health and nutrition habits in our youth. These early lessons will lead to a lifetime of benefits.

The ANNIKA Foundation awarded a $100,000 grant to Orange County Public Schools (FL) to implement SPARK in 20 elementary schools this school year. Funding for the grant was provided to the ANNIKA Foundation by the BlueCross BlueShield of Florida Foundation through its Promising Practices grant program.

On Saturday, May 12, 2012 the ANNIKA & Friends at Sandestin Golf & Beach Resort kicked off with a wine reception and dinner party. The next day began with a Mother’s Day breakfast and a Q&A with Annika and her LPGA friends. Golf was played afterward at Sandestin’s Raven Golf Club. The celebrity tournament consisted of 20 teams of four amateurs plus either a celebrity or LPGA legend. As an extra-special ending to the festivities, Darius Rucker, a top country star who led one of the best pop/rock bands of the 1990s, Hootie and the Blowfish, put on a concert on the beautiful North Park lawn at Grand Boulevard at Sandestin. It was a first-class event for a great cause.

As a three-time Champion of the Kraft Nabisco Championship, Annika went back to the desert in 2013 as host of the Celebrity Pro-Am. Additionally, Annika performed a junior clinic for 100 kids from The First Tee of Coachella Valley and the Southern California Golf Association, and was the starter for the Kraft Nabisco Junior Challenge.
