ANALYSIS OF WORK:On my visit to the Saatchi Gallery, I found the work of Anne Hardy particularly interesting as the large scaled photographs were eye catching. I thought that the busy elements in the photographs were perculiar and that the rooms provided viewers with a clear sense of mundane realism.

The photographs on the previous page of Anne Hardy’s compositions shows what can be seen on first glance to be ‘clutter’ or random forms combining unique objects. However, after further inspection the audience may begin to uncover the elements in Hardy’s pieces to relate her work to an abstract illusion or explore their own imagination as to what the purpose of the pieces may be.

Hardy builds each of her sets entirely from scratch; a labour-intensive process of constructing an empty room, then developing its interior down to the most intricate of details. Her scenes suggest not only elaborate narratives of place, character, and events, but also portray an isollated and abandonned surrounding within the rooms. Hardy’s photos give the viewer a sense of looking through a window at these spaces.

Elements which Hardy has used in the rooms show dominant signs of linear lines, shapes and the balance of composition to demonstrate the vital forms of ‘Space’ which is outlined. The concept of construction and dismantlement also prove to be present in her work as on close analysing, broken objects, shattered glass, loose wires and holes can be seen to convey this feature. Hardy’s pieces create a heavy impact due to the heavy ambience through the unnatural intensity of the lighting in her rooms and the intoxicating saturation.
