La Primavera Spring

Every Leaf is a Flower Violet in Bloom

Changing Seasons

From painting red cliffs in the high desert of New Mexico to capturing lyrical trees and flowers in the Western

North Carolina landscape, Anne Allen welcomes change.

Anne’s studio overlooks an ever-changing rock garden, huge boulders, and a hillside of trees. “Nature changes

me with every season. I paint trees and flowers as if they are self-portraits. Trees are my sentinels. They

defend. They protect.”

Change is not new to Anne. She speaks openly that loss, grief and recovery from illness each made room for

new and fresh perspectives in her art.

Anne typically works in one genre – landscape. “Following a still life workshop with Cape Cod oil painter, Lillia

Frantin, I gathered summer flowers from my gardens to paint arrangements in soft pastel. I poured over a

book containing Henri Matisse paintings with flowers, shuttered windows, and colorful textiles.“

Happy Heart Vintage Moon Glass

Pastel paintings by Anne have been accepted in juried pastel exhibitions in Florida, Georgia and North

Carolina. Deep Calling, a metaphor on living a soulful life, was accepted in the Southeastern Pastel Society

2018 International Pastel Society Exhibition, Oglethorpe Museum of Art, Atlanta, GA. The miniature of trees

in summer was also accepted in the Appalachian Pastel Society 2018 Juried Members Show in North

Carolina.

Giving back to the arts community is Anne’s call to volunteer. “I serve on the board of directors of the

Appalachian Pastel Society and chair non-juried shows for artists living in the Appalachian region. Purely

Pastel, the 2020 Appalachian Pastel Society Non-Juried Member Pastel Exhibition, will be presented June 3-

30 at the Grace Art Gallery, Mills River, NC.” As benefactor of the 2020 pastel show, Grace Mills River will

receive a donation to help fund scholarships for its annual Summer Art Camp.

Anne is showing a new passion for the still life with flowers and interiors. La Primavera Spring invites viewers

to experience how one artist embraces change, like changing seasons.
