DETAILED INFORMATION ABOUT COMMITTEES
The topics of the committees are as follows; Topics may vary depending on current
developments. In this case the school administration will be informed.
1.COMMISSION ON SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY FOR DEVELOPMENT-CSTD
The United Nations Commission on Science and Technology for Development (CSTD) is a subsidiary body of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). It holds an annual intergovernmental forum for discussion on timely and pertinent issues
affecting science, technology and development. Its members are composed of national Governments, however civil society contributes
to discussions which take place. Strong links exist with other UN bodies (The
Commission on Status of Women, Regional Commissions, ITU, UNESCO).
Outcomes of the CSTD include providing the United Nations General Assembly and
ECOSOC with high-level advice on relevant science and technology issues.
UNCTAD is responsible for the substantive servicing of the Commission.
This committee has two agenda items:
Agenda Item 1: The Role and Impacts of Industry 4.0. Agenda Item 2: New Innovation Approaches to Support the Implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals.
4.0 :SMART FACTORY
Smart factory represents the frontier in the domain of digital and production
Technologies.
Considering the rapid pace of technological change, there is a need to think through
what is required to guide these advances in a way that ensures the social, economic
and environmental benefits are as inclusive as possible.
What must be done to ensure that the potential offered by science, technology and
innovation towards achieving the SDGs is ultimately realized?
In the context of the UN Commission on Science and Technology for Development, the CSTD Dialogue our delegates will address this question; the two agenda items
above and contribute to rigorous thinking on the opportunities and challenges of STI in
several crucial areas including the role and the impacts of Industry and finding new
innovative approaches to support the implementation of the sustainable Development
goals much more efficiently in a wider range.
*This committee is suitable inexperienced and experienced delegates.
2. WHO- WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION
WHO is a specialized agency of the United Nations that is concerned with
international public health. It began when its Constitution came into force on 7 April
1948 – a date which is now celebrated every year as “World Health Day.”
It’s now more than 7000 people working in 150 country offices, in six regional offices
and at its headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. The WHO is a member of the United
Nations Development Group. Its predecessor, the Health Organization, was an agency
of the League of Nations.
This committee has two agenda items:
Agenda Item 1:Eradication of Cholera Vaccines Agenda Item 2: Preparation of Emergency Capacities in Developing and Third World Countries.
Cholera is an acute diarrhoeal infection caused by eating or drinking food or water that
is contaminated with the bacterium “V ibrio cholerae.” Cholera remains a global threat
to public health and is an indicator of inequity and lack of social development.
Researchers have estimated that every year, there are 1.3 to 4.0 million cases of
cholera, and 21 000 to 143 000 deaths worldwide due to the infection especially in the
third world countries.
Cholera is an extremely serious disease that can cause severe acute watery diarrhoea
with severe dehydration. It takes between 12 hours and 5 days for a person to show
symptoms after consuming contaminated food or water. Cholera affects both children
and adults and can kill within hours if untreated.
Most people infected with “V ibrio cholerae” do not develop any symptoms, although
the bacteria are present in their faeces for 1-10 days after infection. This means the
bacteria are shed back into the environment, potentially infecting other people.
Cholera is often predictable and preventable. It can ultimately be eliminated where
access to clean water and sanitation facilities, as well as good hygiene practices, are
ensured and sustained for the whole population.
In this Committee of ours, the delegates will be discussing on all the items mentioned
above.
*This committee is suitable for inexperienced first timer delegates. 3. EC – EUROPIAN COUNCIL
The European Council defines the EU's overall political direction and priorities. It is
not one of the EU's legislating institutions, so does not negotiate or adopt EU laws.
Instead it sets the EU's policy agenda, traditionally by adopting 'conclusions' during
European Council meetings which identify issues of concern and actions to take.
The European Council is the EU institution that defines the general political direction
and priorities of the European Union. It consists of the heads of state or government of the member states, together with its President and the President of the
Commission.
Agenda Item: Open Agenda. Agenda Item: Accession of Turkey to the European Union.
The EU reaffirms the importance of the relations between the EU and Turkey, a
candidate country and a key partner and stresses the importance of open and frank
dialogue, within the established framework, in order to address common challenges in
areas of joint interest such as migration, counter-terrorism, energy, transport, the
economy, judicial reform and trade.
The EU underlines that the Turkish government’s stated commitment to EU accession
needs to be matched by corresponding reforms and recalls that the Council conclusions
of 26 June 2018. In this regard, the EU expresses its expectation from Turkey to
ensure that its plans for the items mentioned above are realised in line with EU and
Council of Europe standards.
The delegates in this committee will be talking about these headings one by one .
*This committee is suitable for both inexperienced and experienced delegates.
4. UNSC – UNITED NATIONS SECURITY COUNCIL (OPEN AGENDA) The United Nations Security Council is one of the six principal organs of the United
Nations (UN), charged with ensuring international peace and security, accepting new
members to the United Nations and approving any changes to its charter. Its powers
include the establishment of peacekeeping operations and international sanctions as
well as the authorization of military actions through resolutions– it is the only body of
the United Nations with the authority to issue binding resolutions to member states. It
has 15 Members, and each Member has one vote. Under the Charter of the United
Nations, all Member States are obligated to comply with Council decisions.
All members of the United Nations agree to accept and carry out the decisions of the
Security Council. While other organs of the United Nations make recommendations to
member states, only the Security Council has the power to make decisions that
member states are then obligated to implement under the Charter and in some cases,
the Security Council can resort to imposing sanctions or even authorize the use of
force to maintain or restore international peace and security because it takes the lead in
determining the existence of a threat to the peace or act of aggression.
In accordance with rule 11 of the Provisional Rules of Procedure and presidential
note S/2017/507, every January, the Council reviews the list of matters of which it is
seized. Agenda items which have not been considered at a Council meeting in the
preceding three years are deleted unless a Member State objects. In the latter case, an
item will remain on the list for an additional year, and will be subject to the same
procedure described above if not considered by the Council during that additional year.
Our participants will list the topics to be considered according to their importance and
priority (in terms of their major or minor role) and discuss them. Finally they will try
to find solutions to the problems one by one.
*This committee is suitable for both inexperienced and experienced delegates.

engulfed in a devastating civil war since 2011 after Syrian President Bashar Assad lost
control over large parts of the country to multiple revolutionary groups. The conflict
has since drawn in foreign powers and brought misery and death to Syrians.
There will be two sides as Russian and US cabinets. Both cabinets will have a
representative of Turkey to tail the issue. Syria Talks committee further includes the
