Animal Rights vs. Animal Welfare
Animal Rights– The position that
animals should not be exploited.
• Belief that it is ethically, morally, and inherently wrong to use animals for human purposes under any condition.
Animal Welfare– The position that
animals should be treated humanely.
• Animals can be used for human purposes but that they should be treated so that any discomfort is kept to a minimum.
Which Am I?
Description of Person:– Animal Science major who
participates in all lab activities. Owns pets and enjoys being around animals. Volunteers for local animal rescue mission. Vegetarian, however, I do wear leather shoes and wool sweaters. I eat eggs and drink milk…What am I?

Description of Person:– I am a hard-core vegan (I will not
eat meat, eggs or even drink milk!). I refuse to use products that have been tested on animals, and actively protest the use of animals for research or for entertainment purposes. What am I?
