OPTIMISE FUNCTION AND PERFORMANCE INTHE EQUINE PATIENT

Physiotherapy of the equine patient aims to optimise performance and function of the horse in the presence or absence of injury. Assess-ing the horse holistically, a physiotherapy assessment and treatment considers any injuries, level of performance and goals, movement pat-terns, muscle bulk asymmetry and rider. Using sound clinical reason-ing and communication with the MDT, physiotherapy aims to address any imbalance that can affect performance and the risk of injury.

TREATINGEQUINESOMATIC DYSFUNCTIONTONY NEVIN, ZOO OSTHear the results of nearly two decades’ work and gain real insight into using osteopathy to treat equine somatic dysfunction causing gait abnormality.

Tony graduated from the European School of Osteopa-thy, Maidstone in 1988. Within a year, he had begun animal work alongside his human clinics. Working within veterinary surgeries, he gained valuable ex-perience and exposure to ortho-paedic conditions. By 1990, he pioneered wildlife and mega fau-na treatment and has amassed experience treating over 300

species of mammals, birds and reptiles. He is course leader on the only MSc in Animal Osteop-athy, as well as running unique workshops introducing delegates to the complexities of treating elephants and other forms of wildlife. For the past eight years, he has worked alongside Dr Chris Colles, a RCVS registered equine orthopaedic specialist treating the chronic horse.

THURSDAY, KEYNOTE THEATRE 15.00-15.45

OSTEOPATHIC TREATMENT OF SOMATIC DYSFUNCTION CAUSING GAIT ABNORMALITY IN 51 HORSES

Over a 19-year period, 51 horses showing chronic lameness or gait abnormality that had failed to fully respond to standard veter-inary treatment at recognised referral clinics were referred to us for further treatment. Each case was examined and a diagnosis of somatic dysfunction was made, then followed up to determine how many completed their full course, how many returned to work, and at what level. This seminar presents the results of near-ly two decades’ study to help inform your own work.

COMBINING ANIMAL CHIROPRACTIC AND REHABILITATIONZOË FREEDMAN MCHIRO PGCERTMSC DC MIVCA MBVCA

From her own experience of competing in UK KC agility, Zoe explains how you could offer chiropractic and rehabilitation packages to capitalise on this growth industry.
