Hello Lamar Viking Friends & Families,
Thank you for supporting Lamar football! We have a strong tradition stretching back almost fifty years, and this year’s team will undoubtedly carry the torch forward successfully. Our head coach, Laban DeLay, and his staff recognize and embrace the significance of Lamar football in North Arlington, and they work tirelessly to mold our young men into superior athletes and exemplary citizens. During the season, our coaches work seven days a week, spending more time with their players than they do with their own families. Lamar is blessed to have these men developing our football players.
It takes more than great coaches for a football team to succeed, though. Thanks to our trainers, Bryant and Rachel, for helping keep our players healthy and guiding them as injuries mend. Thanks to our booster club for working hard to provide our team with the necessary resources to excel, and special thanks to the parents of our players for sharing your most prized possessions with all of us.
Our greatest appreciation is due to our players. These young men have lifted thousands of pounds of weights, run miles and miles of sprints, repeated drills over and over working towards perfection, and endured soreness and pain to experience glory on the gridiron. They balance athletics, academics, family and other commitments, which is excellent life training, and we get the privilege of seeing them give their all on Friday nights.
I look forward to seeing you this fall as we cheer on our team and also enjoy the work of our cheerleaders, Vi-Queens, Thor Corps and our band. Friday nights with Lamar Viking football are magical times!
LET’S GO, VIKES! VFND!

Laban DeLayLaban DeLay - Head Coach
A M E S S A G E F R O M T H E
Laban DeLay >> Varsity Head Coach
Laban DeLay enters his 5th year as Head Football Coach for the Lamar Vikings and is only the 3rd Head Football Coach in Viking history. Coach DeLay begins his 25th year in Education with stints at South Grand Prairie High School, Richardson High School, Hubbard ISD, Dublin High School and Weatherford High School.
Coach DeLay is entering his 5th season at Lamar and has set the expectations of excellence throughout the entire program. In his inaugural season the Vikings reached the Regional Semi-Finals with an 11-2 record and the standard is set to return to the playoffs this season. Coach DeLay spent four seasons at South Grand Prairie as Defensive Coordinator developing defensive units that were statistical leaders throughout the metroplex. Prior to SGP, he was the Defensive Coordinator at Richardson High School for four years and served on the staff that turned the program around into a playoff contender after a single season. Coach DeLay made his Head Football coaching debut at Hubbard ISD where he led his football program into the playoffs as an offensive play caller. While under Coach DeLay’s leadership as Athletic Director, Hubbard ISD won a State Championship in track as well as all other sports succeeding into the playoffs for three consecutive years. Coach DeLay started his career in 1995 at Weatherford High School and in 1999 served as the co-offensive coordinator leading the football program to the Regional Championship. Throughout his career he has served as a head coach in Football, Baseball, Track, Powerlifting and Girls Soccer as well as coordinating both the offensive and defensive units in football.
Coach DeLay is a 1990 graduate of Arlington High School and earned his Bachelors of Science Degree at Tarleton State University on a baseball scholarship. He then returned to Tarleton State to receive his Masters of Education Administration Degree along with his Principal Certification. Coach DeLay is married to Kelly, a proud Butler Elementary teacher, and they have two children Addison (17) and Austin (14). The DeLay’s are extremely excited about the 2019 season and look forward to upholding the strong Lamar Viking tradition.

Fight on, oh Vikings, for our fame
Fight on to victory!
We hold your colors blue and gold,
On high for all to see!
Fight on, oh Vikings, brave and bold,
Your honor will be told!
Forever more we sing to thee,
Oh, navy blue and gold!
Lamar High School, we love you,
Your light shines ever true;
It shows the way to follow
Great gold and navy blue.
We pledge our faith forever,
Our Vikings fail us never;
Lamar, our Alma Mater,
Forever more.
