In films and other videos other than music it is not the norm for the character to look directly at the camera however in music videos the artist does this so that they feel as though they are performing and have an interaction with the audience.

They believe if the artist is presented in a certain way they will gain a wider audience, which means more money. These boys are presented as cool. This is important as they are young. The younger audience may aspire to be like them.
