Recycled paper, the greenest option
overall
Extend life span with an upgraded highly qualitative product made from
waste: no compromise to nature nor quality
Eco-friendly production: it uses up waste paper and its production
requires less energy, water, fewer chemicals and emits less CO2
Paper stores carbon. The longer the carbon in the cellulose fibre is kept
from returning into the atmosphere it can not contribute to climate
change (source: CEPI)
100% concept: residuals are used for fertilization, raw material for
building materials and energy production. The water is returned cleaner
than before it was used.

Recycled
17/05/2011 14
Recycling avoids accumulation of waste collection sites and
incineration, which generate C0² emission
Recycling completely optimises the lifespan of the paper, since
fibres can be recycled 4 to 5 times
Recycled paper requires 3 times less energy and 3 times less
water to produce than a paper made with virgin pulp.
Why is Recycled papers more expensive
than virgin fibre papers?
75% of EU population is ready to buy environmentally friendly products
even if they cost a little bit more.(European attitudes to the environment 03/2008)
Q&A’s
Why are Cocoon and MS green papers
so much whiter than other recycled
papers?
Why are Cocoon and MS green papers so much whiter
than other recycled papers?
One of the main reasons is our stringent selection of waste paper.
The Greenfield de-inking mill focuses on recycling top quality waste paper
(office, archival and copy papers with a low ink rate) ensuring the highest quality
level of recycled pulp.
The recycled pulp passes through 3 separate cleaning loops designed to be
extremely efficient at extracting ink and are chlorine free.
Although the de-inking process uses water and chemicals, it is still less harmful
to the environment than the manufacturing process of making paper from virgin
fibre.
Waste papers are
more expensive than wood
The process of collecting and sorting waste paper is more complex and costly
We are using premium quality waste paper like office paper
The manufacturing of high quality and innovative RCC papers required fundamental optimisation of our industrial tools, resulting in less productivity
Optimising the re-use of our by-products (e.g. for cement rather than sent for incineration) has an additional cost
Recycled paper incorporates all its costs into the product, including providing an alternative to disposal
Virgin papers costs are masked by generous government timber subsidies and do not incorporate responsibility for the product’s disposal costs

COCOON Offset / Preprint
New, Recyclingpaper
with high whiteness
made from 100%
wastepaper,
FSC certified
The range
17/05/2011 21
- Cocoon Offset : a top quality uncoated offset paper
available in the widest range of 10 substances : 80 g/m² to 350 g/m²
suitable for offset printing and converting
- Cocoon Preprint : a top quality uncoated preprint laser paper
available in 6 substances : 80 g/m² to 160g/m²
suitable for digital and laser printing
They are manufactured using a unique technologically advanced process, which
provides the appearance and performance of virgin fibres.
Cocoon range delivers ultimate credentials with the highest whiteness
and outperform any other products on the recycled papers market
further enhancing Arjowiggins position as market leader

Switching to recycled paper reduce greenhouse gas emissions
Results identified a clear carbon saving for recycled papers vs FSC virgin fibres papers
1 tonne of recycled paper can save 375 kg of CO².
375kg of CO² corresponds to more than 2000km driving a Renault Clio
