Message from the President

2012 – THE MORE SOCIAL CLUB?

Welcome to 2012 at Andover Cricket Club! The President’s message traditionally reflects on the previous year’s performance, and looks at our prospects for new season year. Well, a change in tradition.

2012 is the 147th year for Andover Cricket Club – the oldest and most

prestigious club in the area. Many clubs around us have folded, and are no longer in existence. Why you might ask? There are many reasons, the infrastructure of each club, the foundations from which each club is

formed and continues to grow year on year; finances, playing strength and of course social aspects of the club. The infrastructure at ACC is outstanding – the junior section is something that we should all be very

proud of, with many of our adult members having progressed through from the junior section to play in our senior teams.

Our finances have never been robust. I have always believed, along with our ex-Chairman, and the current Chairman, that we should have funds in the bank at the end of each season to pay for the next. This

has rarely been the case, but name me a club who is cash rich? Fund raising is important, and we have had very successful events in the past, and I am sure many more in the future. Subscriptions and match

fees, (although combined this year) are critical to our survival, and I have to say that your committee has come up with an innovative way to get funds in the bank and to be fair to the club’s members. When you

go shopping, you never say to the cashier, ‘Can I pay next week please?’ Answer NO. Likewise when you are selected and turn up to

play, ensure you have money for match fees. In addition please pay your subscriptions as soon as you can. I believe the selection committee will not be selecting anybody who has not paid subscriptions after a

certain date; after all you will not be a member of the club.

The bar is also a vital cog in the club’s finances. Last year, the bar

takings were down, and while I understand the current financial

Page 5

position of many, I have to say that you are missing out! On what you might ask? Well, ACC is all about enjoyment, enjoyment of playing and socialising afterwards. Go up to the bar, invite your opponents up for a

drink, find out how our other teams got on, and make new friends. I urge you all to use the bar, if only for one drink. I promise, (and I speak from vast experience here!!), you will enjoy it, and you will get

more from the club. Invite your wives, partners and girlfriends and let’s get our bar buzzing again. The bar area will be upgraded during cricket force, and will be an inviting place for us to expand the social

enjoyment of Andover Cricket Club. If there is, what you believe to be “unacceptable behaviour” in the bar, which might put you off going for a drink, tell a member of the committee. So, let’s see the bar full this

year after every match. As a club we are always indebted to the many individuals who give up their time to improve Andover Cricket Club. None more so over the year’s than Ken Brown – he spends many many days up at the club

preparing wickets for you to play cricket on. We have outstanding playing facilities, thanks to Ken and of course Keith Williams. A personal ‘thank you Ken’ from me, for all you do for Andover cricket Club. The

club owes him a great debt. My thanks also to all our sponsors, and in particular to POWELLS and

Giddy Wells - thank for your continued support of Andover Cricket Club. The most important aspect of the 2012 season is enjoyment, both on

and off the field of play – Andover Cricket Club is here for you and provides you our members with everything you need to get the most

out of your leisure time. So, here’s wishing you all a very very enjoyable and rewarding season.

With best wishes to you all,

Tim KEIGHLEY (President – Andover CC)

For the latest club information go to www.andovercricketclub.co.uk, we hope to see you there, if not at London Road to watch some cricket…

Kind regards, Executive Committee – Andover CC

Our own story started in 1706. That’s when Thomas Twining first set up shop on London’s Strand. More than 300 years later, we still sell tea from Thomas’s shop, bringing new blends to tea lovers. We have over 100 varieties, and our teas are drunk all over the world. True to Thomas Twining’s exacting standards, we only blend finest tea from the finest tea gardens.

The number of offences are intended to be over a playing season, however

items Ref. Nos. 4, 5, & 6 may be considered as repetitive over a longer period.

The Disciplinary Committee would notify a player and club of the period at the time of any ban.

All offences shall be reported in writing, by the umpires on the Standard Report

Form. The umpires shall, before leaving the ground, notify the player and a representative of both clubs their intention to submit a report. A copy of the

report should be sent to the Secretary of the League as soon as is practical and

no later than five days after the event. The Umpires should keep a copy.

If a club accept the Umpires’ Report, and take action themselves against the

offending player in line with the above, notifying the League Secretary of their

actions, any ban imposed and the starting date of the ban, the Disciplinary Committee will take this into account and if satisfied take no further action

other than to record the facts and ensure the ban was implemented.

Information provided in this Fixture card is based on available data at time of going to print. Any changes or amendments should be given to Peter VAN DER WESTHUIZEN - Fixture Secretary or sent via email to [email protected].
