“And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” John 8:32

Psalms 119 has several verses about loving the truth

v. 97 “O how love I thy law!”

v. 113 “…but thy law do I love.”

v. 127 “Therefore I love thy commandments above gold”

v. 163 “I hate and abhor lying: but thy law do I love.”

“To whom we gave place by subjection, no, not for an hour; that the truth of the gospel might continue with you.” Galatians 2:5

1 John 5:3 “For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments:…”

Jude 3 “earnestly contend for the faith”

We cannot know the truth

Not enough evidence to know the truth

Bible truths are “un-knowable”

John 8:32 “And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

1 Tim. 2:4 NKJV “who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.”

Obey the gospel - live Christian life

I Jn. 5:13 “These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.”

Be Sure, Understand

John 8:32 Ye shall know the truthII Pet. 3:18 “grow in knowledge”

Deut.29:29 “The secret things belong unto the Lord our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever,”

2 Pet. 3:16 “some things hard to be understood”

2 Tim. 3:7 “Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.”

Claims that no one can know anything. But this one thing he does know that is: No one can know anything.

How can he know that if he cannot know anything?

It is a self-contradictory theory and is foolish.

Acts 17:11 “These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.”

Searched daily To be sure they have the truth

I Thes. 5:21 “Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.”

Prove by the Bible If it is not true then do not accept If it is true hold fast to it

Acts 18:26-28

Apollos was teaching false doctrine

Priscilla and Aquila showed him his error

Still teaching the baptism of John

He learned the difference

Then he began to teach the truth

Acts 8-9

Saul was persecuting the churchFelt that this was right - Acts 23:1

Learned the difference between truth and error Acts 9 - Ananias Obeyed the Truth Then began preaching the truth

Gal. 1:23 “He who formerly persecuted us now preaches the faith which he once tried to destroy.”

Some believe in PROGRESSIVE REVELATION

What was true in 1st century might not be now

Since conditions change then truth will change

Different parts of the world might have different truths

Truth is relative to time and place.

Same for every person Same as it has always been Same in all places

Teaches same as before we were born Our reading of Bible has not changed it It is unchangeable - cannot be improved Truth does not contradict itself

Law of gravity Same as for Adam and Eve No person or country exempt

Just as real as in 1st century Apply to all parts of the world No person is exempt Laws of God apply to all people all the time

You will not obey it

John 14:15 “If ye love me keep my commandments.”

2 Thes. 2:10 “received not the love of the truth”

2 Thes. 2:12 NKJV “that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness.”

I am opposing God

1 Sam. 8:7 “they have rejected me”1 Sam. 8:19 “we will have a king over us”1 Sam. 10:19 “ye have this day rejected your God”I Sam. 15:23 “For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the Lord, he hath also rejected thee from being king.”

I am opposing God

Jer. 6:19 “Hear, O earth: behold, I will bring evil upon this people, even the fruit of their thoughts, because they have not hearkened unto my words, nor to my law, but rejected it.”Jer. 8:9 “The wise men are ashamed, they are dismayed and taken: lo, they have rejected the word of the Lord; and what wisdom is in them?”

I am opposing God

Reject the truth of God about:

Plan of Salvation

Worship

Marriage/Divorce/Remarriage

Jer. 10:23 “O Lord, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps.”

Pro. 14:12 “There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.”

“Buy the truth, and sell it not;...” Pro. 23:23
