 Inaugural Innovation and Enterprise Week (IEW) Conference 2009 Attracts More Than 600 Registered Participants Strong  interest  in  innovation,  entrepreneurship,  investment  in  start‐ups  and  technology adoption draws big crowd  Singapore, 20 October 2009 – Exploit Technologies,  the  commercialisation arm of  Singapore Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR), today announced that the  Innovation and Enterprise Week (IEW) has more than 600 registered participants for its inaugural year. IEW Conference  2009  is  a  three‐day  executive‐level  conference  featuring  technology  exhibition, talks, workshops, industry roundtable sessions and networking activities for different groups of target  audience.  This  event  aims  to  promote  innovation  and  technology  adoption  amongst Singapore  enterprises;  support  entrepreneurial  activities  through  activities  to  engage  the investment  community;  and  encourage  industry  partnerships  with  a  series  of  industry roundtables and industry forum. The focus is on strategy and networking. IEW 2009 Conference is taking place October 20‐22, 2009 at Biopolis, Singapore. The opening ceremony and plenary session is at 9.00 am on 20 Oct 2009, Tuesday (See: ANNEX A).   At the plenary session, there will be a licence signing ceremony between Exploit Technologies and  several  companies  (See:  ANNEX  B).  In  addition,  a  quadripartite  memorandum  of understanding  (MOU) will  be  signed  between AKSAAS  Pte  Ltd  (an A*STAR’s  spin‐off),  EADS Innovation Works Singapore, Exploit Technologies and Institute for Infocomm Research (I2R) to co‐develop  an  enterprise  document  security  management  product,  based  on  I2R’s  Secure Enterprise Document Management (SEDM) technology (See: ANNEX C).   At  the  same  event,  Exploit  Technologies  and  the  Singapore  International  Chambers  of Commerce  (SICC)  will  have  an  exchange  of  letters  to  mark  the  joining  of  SICC  into  the Technology Transfer Network  (TTN). The TTN,  founded by eight  local Founding Members,  is a collaborative  alliance  of  technology  transfer  offices  formed  to  enhance  the  effectiveness  of technology  transfer  to  industry.    The  core  activities  of  the  TTN  include  IP  cluster mapping, 

training and certification of TTO professionals, joint marketing and events, technology advisory services,  industry collaboration, and regular dialogue and sharing of best practices  (See: ANNEX D).  The plenary session will also  feature Dr Michael Hayden as  the Distinguished Technopreneur Speaker  (DTS). Dr. Hayden  is a world‐renowned geneticist based  in British Columbia who has used  his  scientific  discoveries  and  talents  to  benefit  humanity.  He  has  made  outstanding contributions in the areas of genetics, Huntington’s and other neurodegenerative diseases (See: ANNEX E).  In  addition,  there  will  be  an  exhibition  featuring  technologies  both  from  A*STAR  research institutes and founding members of the Technology Transfer Network (TTN), in areas relating to infocomm  technology  and  electronics;  engineering  and manufacturing; materials,  chemicals and energy; as well as biomedical sciences (See: ANNEX F). IEW 2009 will also present a series of speakers, well‐established  in  their  respective  industries,  from  successful entrepreneurs,  to  IP professionals, to innovation evangelists, and many more (See: ANNEX A).  "The good registration response to IEW 2009 speaks to the power of innovation in business and the potential for substantive change  in the entrepreneurship  landscape  in Singapore," said Mr Boon Swan Foo, Executive Chairman of Exploit Technologies. "To meet  the challenges of  this era, we need  to  fundamentally  rethink  the  role  in growing  the economy  through  introducing product  and  process  innovation,  building  homegrown  start‐ups  and  leveraging  made‐in‐Singapore  technology  to  work  with  collaborators  to  set  up  businesses  in  Singapore. We're pleased to convene a dynamic group of  leaders from the  industry, the  investment community and government agencies who can drive this agenda forward.  “IEW 2009 encourages technology adoption,  investment  in start‐ups and  industry partnership. The  Conference  is  one  excellent  manifestation  of  our  recent  and  novel  efforts  to  take technologies from lab to market, and to ensure good adoption rate.”   Frost  and  Sullivan  is  the  Exclusive  Knowledge  Partner  of  IEW  2009.  The  other  supporting partners  include:  the  Action  Community  for  Entrepreneurship  (ACE),  BANSEA,  Infocomm Development  Authority  of  Singapore  (IDA),  HP  Alumni,  IP  Academy  (Singapore),  Intellectual Property  Office  of  Singapore  (IPOS),  Media  Development  Authority  of  Singapore  (MDA), Investment New Zealand, Singapore Manufacturers’ Federation (SMa), Singapore International Chamber of Commerce (SICC) and SPRING Singapore.  Additional information on IEW 2009 content and registration is available at www.iew2009.com (See: ANNEX A).

 ANNEX B:   INFORMATION ON THE LICENCES TO BE GRANTED  1. AWA Instruments Pte Ltd  AWA Instruments Pte Ltd has licensed the Fish Activity Monitoring Software (FAMS) developed by  the  Institute  for  Infocomm Research  for  the purpose of making  and  selling water quality monitoring solutions. This is AWA’s second licence from Exploit Technologies, having previously licensed Lab‐on‐chip Water Monitoring technology that was developed by A*STAR’s Institute of Materials Research and Engineering.   AWA is a local company that designs and manufacture environmental monitoring solutions. It's products include on line water analyzers as well as on‐line gas analyzers. Some of their installed applications  include a waste water treatment plant  in the US, paper mill waste water plant  in China, chemical waste water plant in Thailand etc. It has distribution capability in Asia including China, India and other countries.  2. Hoestar PD Technology Pte Ltd  Hoestar  PD  Technology  Pte  Ltd  has  licensed  the  Fibre  Bragg  Grating  (FBG)  Temperature Monitoring System developed by the Institute for Infocomm Research (I2R), a core component used  in  Fibre  Optics  Sensing  to  measure  structural  defects  such  as  strain,  temperature, displacements and stress, etc.  Hoestar is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Hoestar Group of Companies consisting of Hoestar Inspection International Pte Ltd, and Hoestar Reliability Instruments Sdn Bhd.  Founded in 2005, it is an innovative research based company that specializes in developing new reliable electrical technologies.   3. IDI Laser Services Pte Ltd  IDI  Laser Services Pte  Ltd has  licensed  the  Laser Decapsulation  technology developed by  the Singapore  Institute  of Manufacturing  Technology  (SIMTech),  which  is  used  to  monitor  the amount of materials removed during the decapsulation process. The technology will inspect the decapsulation  area  for  regions  that  are  not  epoxy‐filler  compound  based  on  either  color  or texture.  IDI Laser Services is a laser integrator that designs and integrates lasers for engraving, marking, cutting, drilling and welding machines. It was established in 1999 and has offices in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, India and Vietnam.

Nexlabs Pte Ltd  Nexlabs  Pte  Ltd  has  licensed  the  Flexible  Organizer  for  Competitive  Intelligence  (FOCI) technology  developed  by  the  Institute  for  Infocomm  Research  (I2R),  a  software  tool  for automatically gathering, organizing, tracking and disseminating competitive information on the web. Upon user’s request, FOCI automatically construct a portfolio of the user‐selected topics be integrating and organising the search results into folders.  NexLabs  is a global provider of mission‐critical enterprise  intelligence technologies to manage the ever‐growing amount of digital content so as to deliver the Right Information to the Right People at the Right Time. Today, with more than 100 clients worldwide, NexLabs solutions have received  numerous  accolades  and  have  been  highly  rated  by many  independent  reviewers worldwide. NexLabs’  innovative products are also  industry  leaders  in Competitive  Intelligence and Internet Security as well as for Business Communication.  5. Solves Innovative Technology Pte Ltd  Solves Innovative Technology Pte Ltd has  licensed the Dosing Software developed by the Data Storage  Institute  (DSI) which  is used  to drive  the hardware and control  the process of dosing the  resist  on  a  substrate.  This  is  Solves’  second  licence  from  Exploit  Technologies,  having previously  licensed  Nanoimprint  Lithography  technology  for  Patterned  Media  that  was developed  by  A*STAR’s  Institute  of  Materials  Research  and  Engineering  and  Data  Storage Institute.  Solves started off as a sole‐proprietorship in early 2004 and was converted to a private limited company and  incorporated  in Singapore  in 2006. SIT has accumulated more than a decade of experience and expertise  in dealing with Hard Disk Media  (HOD) manufacturing equipments. SIT's business is focused on 3 areas: Machine Design; Machine Re‐engineering; and Fabrication of special function parts or assemblies.  6. Sunny Instruments Singapore Pte Ltd  Sunny  Instruments  Singapore  Pte  Ltd  has  licensed  the  Laser Doppler  Vibrometer  Functional Software for vibration measurements, developed by the Data Storage Institute (DSI).  Sunny  Instruments,  registered  in  February  2008,  develops  and  provides measurement  and inspection solutions. Their products include 3D automated vision measuring machines, Dynamic Laser Interferometers, Laser Doppler Interferometers and microscopes.

 7. Teliwave Pte Ltd  Teliwave  Pte  Ltd  has  licensed  the  Internet  Call  Forwarding  Technology  developed  by  the Institute for  Infocomm Research (I2R), to provide one‐touch VoIP solutions that enable offices and mobile users stay in touch with their business network via an easy communication link.  Teliwave was incorporated in Singapore on April 2007 and the company aims to provide users with useful and innovative solutions that connect people and services, regardless of devices or networks,  in a seamless  integrated communication environment. Its products are built around the company's key tenets of being Innovative, bounded in Integrity and having Fun!  8. Vistelli Systems Pte Ltd  Vistelli  Systems  Pte  Ltd  has  licensed  the MPEG‐4  Video  Processing Development  Toolkit  for Surveillance  Applications  Software  developed  by  the  Institute  for  Infocomm  Research  (I2R), which performs stereo and color video analysis based face detection whereby facial images can be used as an index for a low resolution video clips.  Vistelli  is a Singapore registered company that specializes  in  intelligent video content analysis, behaviour  recognition  and  object  recognition  technologies.  Its  products  include  intelligent video processors and wireless  remote  surveillance  systems. Products and  solutions based on Vistelli’s  intellligent  video  surveillance  solutions  can  be  used  in  various  locations  including airports, banks, hotels, schools, immigration checkpoints.  9. Component Technology Pte Ltd 

 Component  Technology  Pte  Ltd  has  licensed  the  3‐Dimensional  (3D)  Wirebond  Inspection System developed by  the  Singapore  Institute of Manufacturing Technology  (SIMTech), which uses  stereo  vision  techniques  to  recover  3D  information  of  die  surfaces,  wire  loops  and leadframe surfaces.  Component Technology, established  in 1989,  is a Singapore‐based  semiconductor equipment distributor  and  representative  for  several  companies  from  USA,  Europe  and  Japan  with distribution networks in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand.

 ANNEX C:    INFORMATION  ON  THE  MOU  BETWEEN  AKSAAS  PTE  LTD,  EADS  INNOVATION  WORKS SINGAPORE, EXPLOIT TECHNOLOGIES AND INSTITUTE FOR INFOCOMM RESEARCH  

Aksaas  Pte  Ltd,  EADS  Innovation Works  Singapore,  Exploit  Technologies  and Institute  for  Infocomm  Research  Sign  Memorandum  Of  Understanding  to Commercialise Secure Enterprise Document Management System  Singapore, 20 October 2009 – AKSAAS Pte Ltd, EADS  Innovation Works Singapore –  the  local research  unit  of  European  Aeronautic  Defence  and  Space  Company  (EADS)  –,  Exploit Technologies Pte Ltd and the  Institute for  Infocomm Research (I2R) today announced that the four parties will sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to  jointly commercialise Secure Enterprise  Document  Management  System  (SEDM),  a  technology  developed  by  I2R.  SEDM allows a user to give or deny access to documents to others, to control features such as copying or printing and to track down those who try to get unauthorised access.   In December 2008, EADS Innovation Works Singapore signed a contract agreement with Aksaas, to co‐develop SEDM Version 1.  EADS will now deploy this version of SEDM at its local research unit, EADS  Innovation Works and other offices  in Europe, with an  initial purchase of 500 seat licences.  This MOU extends the December 2008 partnership for another two years, during which Exploit Technologies  and  I2R will  look  to  continuing  their  efforts  to  co‐develop  the  next  version  of SEDM with Aksaas, for the eventual commercial rollout in Europe and Asia.  This is to bring the benefits of SEDM to a wider global audience.  EADS will be responsible for marketing SEDM in Europe and Aksaas will have the exclusive marketing rights in Asia Pacific.  EADS’ adoption of SEDM is an endorsement SEDM’s technology innovativeness to meet critical enterprise  document  security  needs.  Said  EADS  CTO  Dr  Jean  Botti:  “SEDM  combines  high security with intuitive use. In today’s dynamic enterprise environment, there is great need to be able to control access to high value information‐assets at our fingertips. We also cannot afford to  be  bogged  down  by  difficult‐to‐use  and  hard‐to‐navigate  systems  that  leave  us  both frustrated and vulnerable.”  Exploit  Technologies  had  incubated  Aksaas  for  close  to  20 months when  the  company  first started  business  in  2006.  On  Aksaas’  tie‐up  with  EADS,  Mr  Boon  Swan  Foo,  Executive Chairman, Exploit Technologies, said, “This is an excellent demonstration of the comprehensive efforts we make  to bring a  start‐up and  its  technology  to  their maximum potential. We help grow  it  so  that  a  forward‐looking MNC  like  EADS  find  good  value  in  its  product  adoption,

 ANNEX D:  INFORMATION ON THE JOINING OF SICC AS A TTN MEMBER  The  Technology  Transfer  Network  (TTN)  announced  on  20  October  2009  at  the  inaugural Innovation  and  Enterprise Week  conference  that  the Network  has  extended  its  commercial reach  to  add  to  its  fold  the  Singapore  International  Chamber  of  Commerce  (SICC)  as  an Associate Member. With the  joining of SICC, the TTN,  founded  in February 2008, has twenty‐five (25) members across Asia, United States, Canada, Europe and New Zealand.    As an Associate Member, SICC will be able  to participate  in enhanced collaboration with  the network  of  TTN  members  to  share  best  practices,  leverage  expertise  and  resources,  and collaborate  on  networking  opportunities  to  enhance  technology  transfer  to  the  industry globally.  Joining  TTN  provides  SICC members  an  opportunity  to  look  at  emerging  technologies  on  a regular and coordinated basis. The interaction at TTN level also serves as a platform where SICC members can participate and contribute in providing feedback of industry needs.   Mr Phillip Overmyer, the Chief Executive of the SICC, added, “We are honoured to be invited as the first International Chamber of Commerce to join the TTN as its Associate Member. With our 800  strong membership where  60  percent  are  foreign‐owned  companies with  headquarters overseas, and 40 percent are locally‐owned companies,  we believe that this alliance will enable SICC member companies and TTN’s members to collectively explore innovative ideas and foster strategic business partnerships both in the local and international markets.”   Mr  Boon  Swan  Foo,  Executive  Chairman  of  Exploit  Technologies  and  the  Chairman  of  the Technology Transfer Network said, “The TTN warmly welcomes SICC onboard our  team.  I am confident that SICC’s industry outreach and relevance will expand TTN’s perspective.”    SICC will participate in the upcoming IEW Conference 2009 as a supporting partner.

 INFORMATION ON THE TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER NETWORK (TTN)  Mission and Founding of the Technology Transfer Network (TTN) The  TTN  is  a  collaborative  alliance  of  technology  transfer  offices  formed  to  enhance  the effectiveness of technology transfer to industry.  The core activities of the TTN include IP cluster mapping, training and certification of TTO professionals, joint marketing and events, technology advisory services, industry collaboration, and regular dialogue and sharing of best practices.  The TTN was formed in Singapore on February 12, 2008. The eight Founding Members are:

 INFORMATION ON THE NEW AFFILIATE MEMBER  About Singapore International Chamber of Commerce      

  The  Singapore  International Chamber of Commerce  (SICC), established  in 1837,  is  the oldest private sector representative organization in the Republic of Singapore.  It is also unique in the local context in that membership is open to companies of all races and nationalities, so long as they have a place of business in Singapore.    The  Chamber  provides  a  respected  and  effective  voice  for  the  business  community  in Singapore.    It  is  accepted  by  the Government  as  representing  the multinational  investment interests in the Republic.  At the same time, the Chamber’s substantial local membership gives it  firm  roots  in  Singapore.  Currently,  over  40  nationalities  are  represented  in  the  Chamber membership, which encompasses both multinational corporations with operations in Singapore and locally‐owned business enterprises, Singaporean companies form the largest single national group (42%), followed by American (14%), Japanese (8%) and German (8%).  The  high  credibility  and  status  enjoyed  by  the  Chamber  give  it  access  to  key  areas  of government where policy decisions are made.  Not only is the Chamber regularly consulted on matters that have a bearing on the interests of the private sector, such as draft legislation and new  or  revised  government  rules  and  regulations,  but  it  also  has  members  on  numerous government advisory committees and statutory boards.  The  Chamber  constantly  monitors  and,  where  appropriate,  speaks  up  on  issues  or developments of concern to its members.  The Chamber also has an on‐going dialogue with the government  and  statutory  bodies  through  regular meetings  and  consultation.    Here  again, diverse  issues  that affect  the private  sector are  regularly  raised  for  clarification and possible remedial action by government departments and statutory bodies.  In these ways, the Chamber combines its “watch‐dog” role with that of acting as a catalyst for the improvement of the business and investment environment in Singapore.

 ANNEX E:  INFORMATION ON THE DISTINGUISHED TECHNOPRENEUR SPEAKER AWARD  EXPLOIT TECHNOLOGIES’ DISTINGUISHED TECHNOPRENEUR SPEAKER SERIES  

Exploit  Technologies  launched  the  Distinguished  Technopreneur Speaker  (DTS)  series  on  30  October  2008  to  seed  innovation  and entrepreneurship  in Singapore. A slew of distinguished technopreneur speakers will be  invited at regular  intervals to share their experiences on science and innovation. These speakers are selected based on their proven track record of exploiting technology and  innovation to create value‐add  and  wealth  for  their  community.  DTS  aims  to  engage 

entrepreneurs,  industry professionals, researchers, scholars and students and  inspire them to explore the potential of entrepreneurship, innovation and emerging technologies as envisioned by the new economy.   

  This  year,  the  DTS  Award  Winner  is  Dr.  Michael Hayden (left). Michael is a Killam Professor of Medical Genetics  at  the  University  of  British  Columbia  and Canada  Research  Chair  in  Human  Genetics  and Molecular Medicine.   He  is  also  the Director  of  the Center  for  Molecular  Medicine  and  Therapeutics (CMMT)  in  Vancouver,  Canada;  a  gene  research center  under  UBC's  Faculty  of Medicine,  located  at the Child and Family Research Institute.  

 Michael was the top graduate in medicine (1975) from the University of Cape Town, where he also received his PhD  in Genetics (1979). He completed a post‐doctoral fellowship and further training  in  Internal Medicine  at  Harvard Medical  School. Michael  is  board‐certified  in  both Internal Medicine and Clinical Genetics.  Author of over  600 peer‐reviewed publications  and  invited  submissions, Michael  focuses his research primarily on genetic diseases, including genetics of lipoprotein disorders, Huntington's disease, predictive and personalized medicine. Michael and his research group have  identified 10 disease‐causing genes which  includes the  identification of the major gene underlying high‐density  lipoprotein  (HDL)  in humans. This gene, known as ABCA1, has major  implications  for atherosclerosis  and  diabetes.  He  also  identified  the  first  mutations  underlying  Lipoprotein Lipase  (LPL) Deficiency and developed gene  therapy approaches  to  treat  this condition. He  is

also  co‐leader  of  the  GATC  project,  a  BC‐led  Genome  Canada‐funded,  national  strategy  to prevent adverse drug reactions in childhood.  Michael  is the recipient of numerous prestigious honours and awards.  In 2008 he was named Canada's Health Researcher of  the Year by CIHR and was also one of  the  five  finalists of  the Globe and Mail's 2008 Nation Builder competition.  In 2007 he received the Prix Galien, which recognizes the outstanding contribution of a researcher to Canadian pharmaceutical research. He was  awarded  the  Leadership  and  Research  Excellence  award  by  the National  Centres  of Excellence in 2004 and the Lifetime Achievement award by the Huntington Society of Canada in 2001. Michael was  elected  to  the  Canadian Academy  of Health  Sciences  in  2005,  the  Royal Society of Canada  in 1995, the Board of the American Society of Human Genetics  in 1994 and the American  Society  of Clinical  Investigation  in  1992. Michael  sits  on  the Gairdner Medical Review selection panel, and participates  in the selection of the Gairdner  International Science winners each year.  Michael  is  also  the  founder  of  three  successful  biotechnology  companies‐  NeuroVir,  Xenon Genetics,  Inc.,  and  Aspreva  Pharmaceuticals,  Inc.  In  2006,  Michael  received  5  different Entrepreneurial  Awards  including  the  Career  Achievement  Award  from  the  BC  Innovation Council and he received the BC Biotech Life Sciences award for Company of the Year.  The  first DTS Award Winner  in 2008 was Professor Stephen G Davies, Chairman of Chemistry and  Waynflete  Professor  of  Chemistry,  a  highly  successful  serial  entrepreneur  and  an accomplished Oxford professor in research.
