Ancillary Research

We have decided to research a variety of different double page spread magazines and radio adverts. This will help us when we need to make our own double page magazine spread and radio advert. By looking at different ones it will give us an idea on what type of conventions we would need to add that would best suit our documentary which is about crime specifically. By this we want to be able to attract our target audience that would make it interesting for them to be able to go and watch it.

The masterhead of the magazine shows how important it is due to establishing the companies name, so that the audience can recognize the brand. It is always in big font and in capitals to make it stand out, therefore easy to be recognised and to remember.

The barcode is for purchasing the product and therefore it sometimes has the release date which is to notify the consumers.

The main heading which is shown at the front of the magazine which is written in capital letters, this is trying to imply to the audience on what this programme is about therefore trying to portray a message.

The use of dark colours such as red and black connotes a sense of danger and fear that this programme is trying to imply to the audience. Therefore these colours are implying to the audience of the genre of programme which is crime.

The question is trying to grab the audiences attention by telling them to watch this programme, therefore they are questioning the audience to make them feel intrigued to go and watch it.

This is seen to be a form of an advertisement pattern which they are trying to catch the audiences attention by making them feel involved.

Conclusion

By choosing the correct use of radio adverts and double page spread magazines, it has helped me recognise the type of common conventions that are mainly used within these. By this we need to be able to have something similar to what I have researched such as a radio advert and a double page magazine spread relating to our specific documentary (i.e crime) Therefore it is important to choose the correct font, colours, images that will make it recognisable to the audience on what the documentary that we are trying to portray is about.
