has faced many invasions and attacks from foreign empires. During 133 BC, Romans captured the city.
The Asia Minor regions capital was located to the Ephesus around 27 BC by King Augustus. Due to its
strategic location, it became hub for trade, immigrants and merchant community.
Today it has become a major tourist hub in Turkey. Daily Ephesus Tours are easily availableby varioustravel agencies here. The region also had significant Christian population before the region became
dominated by Islam. St. Paul is believed to be stayed with virgin Mary here along with many Christian

Daily Ephesus Tours cover many important parts of the city including this legendary library. Roman
Empires decline began with the destruction of Ephesus. In 263 AD , Germanic Goths invaded the city and
took over its rule. But the attacks could not erase the rich culture of Ephesus which was known to be full
of heritage, culture, arts and leisure since ancient time. The places like Ephesus Archaeology Museum
have documented historical development of the city, through films, artifacts and excavated materials.
Many visitors visit the museum for its magnificent rooms like the Hall of the Fountain Relics, Hall of
Artemis, Terrace Houses Room, the Hall of the Funerary Relics and House Findings room.
History movie loves will be amazed at the Gladiators section. The grand heritage of Ephesus has shown
through Archaic, byzantine, Anatolian, Turkish and Mycenian period artifacts. The Temple of Artemis
remains the most visited part of the city. Grand theatre, polio fountain, Selcuk castle, St. John basilica and
Isa Bey Mosque are also visited by tourists. The Isa Bey Mosques construction began in 1375 and it is
located within the borders of Selcuk. Basilica of St. John is just nearby the mosque and it is constructed
on the top of Johns apostles burial site. The entire city is almost a living museum with sites like Curetesstreet, Domitian Temple, State Agora and Polio fountain.
Hiring a professional guide in the Ephesus will really help you to enrich the experience. The local
language of Ephesus may not be known by you and it is also pointless to visit the city without knowing
what is written on the inscriptions and monuments. The information in the guidebook is mostly
oversimplified. A qualified guide will put things in the perspective. So pack your bags and allow Ephesus
to amaze you!
