Ancaster Quilter’s Guild

This is my last newsletter message as my two year term has been fulfilled. It has been an eventful two years and with the assistance of Sue Lusted (past president) and Jackie Syer (vice president) I think the guild has remained a strong, focused unit.

The president’s job is made easy when she has a strong executive and despite going vice president-less for one year, I have been blessed with a very strong group. They all do their jobs with dedication and commitment and knowing I could depend on them made my experience richer.

Jackie Syer is both flamboyant and forward thinking. She was a wonderful support system in both of my years and she will carry us forward with great style.

Sue Lusted remains in her role as newsletter editor excel-lent but I must also mention that she was very involved in her first year as past president in offering support. Any-thing I asked was possible and done, including chairing meetings.

Janet Hockley arranged many very interesting programs over the past two years and has left our future program chairs with a good start on next year. She also had the responsibility of key keeper and stayed to lock up when most of our members were already home.

Block of the month has flourished with Jackie Syer and then Denise McKenna, both women are master quilters and teachers. They encourage and push where needed to help our members achieve new goals.

Cuddle Quilts or Outreach as I like to call it, has main-tained an absolutely awe inspiring production of quilts, pillow cases, bags. Mary Crowe was followed by Colleen Dawson as the person who presents at quilt meetings but they were strongly backed up by Lynda Ryan and Teresa McPhail. Of course, multiple members sew, bind, quilt and donate to keep this program healthy. Placemats were gathered through the efforts of Sam Croucher, Brenda Lupton and Rena Mahler.

Workshop Days were offered regularly and Janice Leverton and Wendy Dalrymple were charming, support-ive hosts. They could be discovered consulting on various projects and offering valuable assistance

.Martha Forbes took minutes and sent them on for each executive meeting. Cathy Pinelli did the books followed by Janice Hocluszka, we always had information and great service from these amazing treasurers or treasures!

Our membership was organized and maintained through efforts of Janet Hockley and Cathy Pinelli.

The library team fronted by Ann Roy not only looked after our vast collection but they came in last summer to transfer the whole library to our new location. Elizabeth, Mary Louise, Penny and Leslie all contributed over the last two years.

Many of our guild members make great use of this service.

Most meetings, one of my first stops is the ticket table. This year, Janet Shannon and Debbe Durham took my money and last year Joan Wilkins and Patricia Ryckman-Fleming did the honours. The prizes and money have been much appreciated by the winners.

Remember that an army marches on their stom-achs. Linda Clugston assisted by Joan Barons, has made sure that the coffee and tea were ready for you and coordinated the donations of snacks to keep us all going.

I would like to offer a huge vote of thanks to these executive members but I would also like to thank our guild members, we need you to support our programs. You are the base for the whole operation.

Programme Yes, summer has finally arrived and the heat has come too! This year we have an air condi-tioned hall, yeah!

As our year winds down, I appreciate the feed back I have received over this past year and we did have several fun entertaining guest speakers (all within budget). The line up for 2016-2017 promises to be as exciting.

June meeting format is relaxing, with our usual A-L folks bringing foods and treats and M-Z bringing items for Interval House. A reminder again as IH families transition from IH to their own homes, with little/no household inci-dentals the need never goes away. Here's where we can help! Let's build some care packages to include: detergents, fabric soften-ers, scour pads, j cloths, dish clothes, towels tee/hand/paper, Mr. Clean, windex, facial tis-sue & toilet tissue. If you have been saving those motel toiletries please bring them along we accept all donations. The list goes on.

Enjoy your summer sabbatical and get those UFO's finished for a big show & tell in September.

The membership renewal process for the 2016 - 2017 guild year wrapped up in May. There are some membership spots available now for ladies on the wait list. If you were on our wait list, you will be contacted (based on your spot on the wait list and the number of available openings) to determine if you are still interested in joining the Ancaster Quilter's Guild. Membership fees for new members are $45.00. Name tags for new members will be ordered during the summer. If any current member has lost their name tag and would like to order a new tag (replacement fee is $5.00), please see me at the membership table. Patricia Ryckman Fleming

We are saddened by the loss of Patricia who, until last June worked on our Draw Table providing and sourcing a lot of neat items. She shared her knowledge and expertise through the courses which she taught. One of her pet projects was the Quilts on the Barns in the Brantford area and she did more than one of them for this display to mark the anniversary of the War of 1812. Her quilts won many priz-es and awards. One thing which always struck me was the labels on her quilts. Every one of them had a label and all were expertly done! We will miss her, but through her quilts, she has left us a legacy which sets high standards of expertise and dedication to detail.

Block of the Month News

I'd like to thank everyone who took part in

the Block of the Month this year! All of the

instructions have been handed out. If you

have missed a month, I'll have all of the

It's been nice to hear that some of you are

finished the top and they've already been

taken to the long arm quilter! Well done!

White Glove Program

• For 2016-2017 we would like to set up teams responsible for displaying Show & Share and Trunk show quilts.

• These volunteers would be in teams of four: two to hold the quilts and the other two to pass/fold the quilts.

Library Report

There are 2 new books this month, both donations from CHERISHED PIECES in Tillsonburg. MOD BLOCK FORM AND FUNCTION BY MISSOURI STAR, a modern approach to some tradition patterns; and BLOCK VOL 3 ISSUE 2 BY MISSOURI STAR, with some short cuts for easier piecing. The library will be open, of course, so you can take out books for the summer, to either make a project over the summer or start to plan your Fall/Winter projects. You can even plan Christmas projects with an early start on ideas, Your Library committee Library Committee Ann Roy, Elizabeth Rosser, Mary Louise Duncan


Quilt Raffle for September. The raffle quilt is now quilted and will be on display at the June meeting....unbound. Start saving your $$$$$$ for tickets in September.
