A SHORT BIO

Dr Anca Peiu is an Associate Professor of the Department of English, as well as of the Center of

American Cultural Studies, of the Faculty of Foreign Languages and Literatures, University of

Bucharest, Romania. She teaches American Literature of the 19th

century and has specialized in

Faulkner Studies. Anca Peiu has recently translated William Faulkner’s Uncollected Stories into

Romanian, in two volumes, for the RAO International Publishing Company. Dr. Peiu has

recently completed an extensive research of Representations of the South in William Faulkner’s

Uncollected Stories at Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, USA – where she

benefited from a senior Fulbright scholarship.

Anca Peiu has also recently accomplished an updated translation into Romanian of Intruder in

the Dust – William Faulkner’s 1948 extremely intricate detective novel, raising contemporary

dilemmas upon the ancient inter-racial tension, set in the troubled American Old South. Her new

Romanian version of Faulkner’s book – written just before he was awarded the Nobel Prize for

Literature – is published by the same RAO International Publishing Company, like her above

mentioned two volumes of literary translations. All these volumes are preceded by sound

introductory studies, supported by plenty of reference to recent documentation, signed also by

Anca Peiu. They belong to a special critical edition series, issued by RAO, known as the

“William Faulkner Library” series – entirely provided with notes and chronology by Anca Peiu.

Early in the spring of 2015, the American writer Therese Anne Fowler’s best-selling 2013 book:

Z: A Novel of Zelda Fitzgerald, was launched in the Romanian bookstores. Its Romanian version

was accomplished by Anca Peiu, who also provided the book with thoroughly documented notes.

The book, already a success on the Romanian bookmarket, as well, is published in the most

fashionable contemporary literature series “Denisa’s Shelf” (”Raftul Denisei”) of the Humanitas

Fiction Publishing House in Bucharest, Romania.

Dr. Peiu has guided numerous graduation papers to generations of students ever since January

1991, when her academic career started at the University of Bucharest, Romania.
