Preface

TFDPC – Conserving Forests & Wild life and Creating Wealth

The Corporation came into existence in 1976 in Tripura, after the Central

Government in mid seventies proposed to instil professional business enterprise

culture among the Forest Departments of the country. The primary aim of this policy

was to increase the productivity from the forests in order to give a fillip to the

production forestry in the country for meeting the growing needs of the people for

the goods and services from the forest resources.

The Corporation has made pioneering attempts in India to develop successful

models for the permanent settlements of the tribal shifting cultivators honey-

combing the forests through Rubber cultivation. The Corporation is one of the single

largest Rubber plantation units in the country and has so far raised more than

13,000 ha of Rubber plantation on degraded forest lands. The Rubber and Bamboo

are the two vital resources for the development of the State and shall remain so for

another two to three decades. The activities of the Corporation have given a

tremendous boost to forest regeneration and conservation.

In the interests of forest conservation and for better value addition of the

forest products the Corporation has setup Tripura Rubber Wood Factory at TFDPC

Industrial Estate, Anandanagar for production of laminated solid Rubber wood

boards with imported machineries. To facilitate carpenters of Tripura, the

Corporation has setup UNAKOTI Crafts & Furniture unit in the same estate with latest

‘State of Arts’ machineries imported from Taiwan, China & Germany. The Corporation

is pioneer in the field of using treated Bamboo for making furniture. The Corporation

has set up PILAK Door Manufacturing Unit at TFDPC Industrial unit and a TSR (Block

Rubber) Manufacturing Unit at Takmacherra.

The Corporation has emerged as one of the best managed forestry enterprise

in the country. The strength of the Corporation lies in its fast changing work culture.

The officers, staff and workers despite shortage of manpower have shown

tremendous commitment and motivation in their jobs and have contributed

significantly in increasing the profit by stepping up the productivity. The profit rose

to Rs. 18-20 crores per annum.

The success of our enterprise lies in commitment, hard work, honesty,

transparency and a decentralized work culture and our efforts are one of the best in

the Government sector in India and comparable to any corporate business houses.

Advantages of using rubber wood furniture from TFDPC Ltd. :- The rubber wood is chemically treated through boric acid and borax in chemical treatment plant which

makes the rubber wood resistant to attack of termites and borers.

The rubber wood is heat treated in seasoning kilns thus reducing the moisture content to desired minimum levels.

The furniture are manufactured using the latest technologies and upgraded machines & thus have superior finishing.

Though of superior quality, the furniture manufactured from treated rubber wood are far cheaper than those made of traditional timber species like teak, gamair etc.

The rubber wood is obtained from plantation forestry and as such it reduces demand of timber from natural forests. That’s why it is sometimes also called “eco-friendly timber”.
