Page 3: Analysis of titles

Scream 4

• This links to the genre by the way it is written “In the beginning” it is a white font with a black background suggesting the seriousness of the titles. The font has been used to give the sketchy kind of feel to it, to add to the typical convention. It is all in capital letters to make it stand out for the viewer to read. The colour is used like said before to suggest the seriousness of the titles linking it into the horror convention. The size they have chosen is to show is big enough for the viewer to be able to read and for the text to stand out so that it is understood easier by the viewer.

Page 4: Analysis of titles

Scream 4

• This links to the horror genre because it is stereotypical that the victim would receive a call just before she is attacked. This has been done to follow the convention and also to add suspense to the trailer. The font again is consistently the same as the previous title suggesting the seriousness again and also so it stands out. Again with the colour to suggest the seriousness and also to make it so the audience can receive the continuity of the titles throughout.

Scream 4

• This is the name of the company that made the film. This has been to advertise there company name and so that if they have fans then this film might get more views. They have added this into the title to break the sequence of short clips so that they could skip to a different part in the film. The font and size is bigger for the main company name then shorter for the “F I L M S”.

Scream 4

• This is back to the titles, this has been used to continue the short little title story. Most of these titles are used to show what's in the trailer in a different way. By using code lines as something that is happening in the film. This is to get the viewer thinking about what is happening and from this would be a way to advertise there film. Again there is a continuity with the font and size as they want to keep the consistency up. This time it is more centred in the screen maybe suggesting that the trailer is half way through.

Page 7: Analysis of titles

Scream 4

• This is used to carry on with the suspense. This is a stereotypical horror convention, as they want the viewer to feel the action. This is because they want to make sure the viewer reads every mini title so that they don’t have to reveal to much in the mini clips they used in the trailer. Again they carried on with the continuity of the titles being that size and the background being black with the white writing. This is again to suggest the seriousness and also to help with the suspense build up.

Page 8: Analysis of titles

Scream 4

• This is a horror convention because it says “A GHOST FROM THE PAST” this is a horror convention because of the ghost. A lot of horror films have monsters and ghost’s in this is to make the film scarier and to add more emotion to their genre of film. Also like before the font size and colour is the same. They had to do this to make sure they follow the continuity to show the professionalism of the way the film is done.

Page 9: Analysis of titles

Scream 4

• This title is linked to the genre by the use of the words “master of suspense” this is showing they have someone building up suspense which is involved in a typical horror film. This is to follow the conventions and this title has been used to show what is happening. They have also used someone who is involved in the creation of the film, this would have been done to attract viewers, because if they know someone who they know to be famous is involved then they are likely to end up going to watch the film.

Page 10: Analysis of titles

Scream 4

• Suspicious looking title; this has been done to change the pattern up as things in the trailer start to heat up. They have changed the background and also moved the font more to the right of the image suggesting the trailer is coming to the end. This is a horror convention because the background and everything in the title gives a confusing emotion out. This has been done to suggest that things are about to change in the trailer from what was being shown before.

Page 11: Analysis of titles

Scream 4

• This links to the horror convention because again of the suspicious looking background colours. Also because of the word “TERROR” this is what a stereotypical horror would include, as they want to have the viewer on the edge of their seats. The font is an average size until the line “THE TERROR” this would say that this is the main line in this title and therefore be what the producer wants the viewer to look at.

Page 12: Analysis of titles

Scream 4

• This is the title of the film, this relates to the genre because of the word scream. This indicates that there is going to be lots of scary jumpy films, that keep the viewer interested. They have put this in to indicate that the trailer is coming to the end. The red 4 in SCRE4M is there to indicate the danger in the films to relate to a horror convention.

Page 13: Analysis of titles

Scream 4

• This is to show the release date of the film so that the viewer knows when the film is going to be released. It has been done in this size so it stands out to the viewer, so they are theoretically demanding the viewer to read what it says. This is a type of advertisement for persuasion. It is in the centre on the screen to make it even more enticing.

Page 14: Analysis of titles

Cassadaga

• This the makers of the film’s company name. This is so the viewer then knows the creator of the film. This is the companies logo and has been done so that they are able to represent any type of genre. It is the first title we see so the viewer instantly knows the company that created the trailer. It is positioned in the centre so it stands out to the audience so that they take the time to look at it.

Page 15: Analysis of titles

Cassadaga

• This relates to a horror convention because a lot of horrors involve people moving in to a new home then that home being haunted. This is how they indicate this storyline to be straight away and from this gives the viewer the knowledge of the genre.

Page 16: Analysis of titles

Cassadaga

• The links with horror genre because of the black background which symbols seriousness and death. This link to a horror convention because it is what you would stereotypically see from a horror movie. The text is in the middle of the page, so it stands out to the viewer and makes the viewer read the text. Also the font and size make it stand out because it is big enough to grasp the attention and also is in a font which makes the words stand out.

Page 17: Analysis of titles

Cassadaga

• They have used the same font as before this is to for the same reasons and they also want to make it have some continuity throughout the titles. This again links to a horror because it says “ Once you visit Cassadaga” this indicates that the place might be hunted as you get the impression the next line might be that “You wont return” this would have been done to keep the viewer suspicious and keep them interested in the trailer and also to give some insider to what could happen in the film.

Page 18: Analysis of titles

Cassadaga

• Like I said before this has the same font and size with the same background and colour this would be for the same reason to keep the continuity going and to make sure the viewer reads the title so they can follow the text story. The text say “You’ll never leave” this is linking to the horror genre because that is what people think about. Go into a place and never come back. This is so the viewer gets an edgy feel when watching this part as it starts to heat the trailer up and also try to inflict some scare on to the viewer.

• The film title, the font has been chosen to make it look like a horror film, with the red connotation symbolising blood and also the size is large therefore making sure the viewer is able to read the title of the film as this is going to relate to the film. This is how this title links to the horror genre.

Page 20: Analysis of titles

• This title has been done to show that the film is coming out soon. This is so that the people that have enjoyed the trailer know they don’t have to wait long for it to come out. They have used the same font and style as before this is so they can carry on with the consistency. Also lets the viewer know this is the end of the trailer.

Page 21: Analysis of titles

Coraline

• This is the first title that is shown and it is the name of the company that has developed the film. This links to the horror genre because of the background. This gives off the horror feel and can instantly show to the viewer the type of audience that the film is looking to grasp. It is in this font because they want the main title to stand out the most so they can get people to know the company name. It is positioned in the centre of the screen so the viewer is locked into it. This is a persuasive way to get people to look at something.

Page 22: Analysis of titles

Coraline

• The next title that is shown is another company that has helped with the production. They would of put this 2nd instead of 1st because it would have had less impact on the film making process in this particular film. However they still want the audience to know the other company involved so they have put this before the film trailers appear. Again they have decided to make the main word stand out the most by giving it a slant and also putting it in capital LETTERS. It is again like the 1st one positioned in the middle of the screen this makes it more attracting for the viewer to look at.

Page 23: Analysis of titles

Coraline

• Again it is showing another company that is part of the film making. This time they have changed the background to more red in the centre and black around the sides. This is linked to a horror convention because the red would be a connotation of blood. Then PANDEMONIUM is the stand out word as they want to again inform the viewers of the company that is involved.

Page 24: Analysis of titles

Coraline

• This is the first title that isn’t to do with the company names. The links to the horror convention because it starts off with this year, showing that this is going to be there release date. This links to the horror genre because of the black background connotation suggesting dark and death. This links to the stereotypical convention.

Page 25: Analysis of titles

Coraline

• Again they have used the same background and font as the previous title. This has been done to carry on with the continuity. This is middle of the short title stories and has been done to get another part of the story shown in a different way to just short clips. This has been positioned across the whole screen so that the viewer takes note of the text and therefore is able to follow the short story. To gain I hidden message about what the story is about.

Page 26: Analysis of titles

Coraline

• Again they have used the same background and font as the previous 2 titles. This has been done to carry on with the continuity. This ties in with a horror convention because it is a short titled story not giving anything away only leaving the viewer confused and suspicious for what could be happening. This a stereotypical convention because it has been done to get the viewer emotionally connected to the trailer and therefore ties in with convention of fear and sadness.

Page 27: Analysis of titles

Coraline

• This is the main title of the film. Therefore they have chosen it to be positioned in the middle of the screen so that it stands out and that therefore the viewer knows the title of the film. The colour links to the stereotypical convention by it looking like a rusted background. Maybe suggesting that one of locations might be an old haunted place.
