Are you Male or Female?

We asked 20 people this question and decided that it would be best to ask an equal amount of male and females in order to now have any bias in our results. This also allowed us to aim our music video towards both genders as we could get feedback from them both.

How old are you?

11 to 13

We have already decided that our target audience will be late teenagers as opposed to younger children as we felt that the genre we are working with is more for teenagers. Our focus group also agreed with our target audience so this is why we asked more 17 to 19 year olds and no 11 to 13 year olds.

As you can see from these results, there is a wide range of musical tastes. The most popular were Rock and Indie which aren’t the genres that we will be working with. However, there were 5 people that selected Dance/Dubstep which shows that it is still popular it is just not considered extremely mainstream and it’s not as popular as others.

Do you think a horror-themed music video would work well for a Dubstep track?

YesNo

The majority agreed with our idea which confirmed that we are doing the right thing and do not need to change what we were thinking.

How well do you think horror interpretations of children’s stories work?

The majority of the answers, 13, thought that it would either work very well/quite well which confirmed our idea of having a nightmare-ish Alice in Wonderland theme. This was opposed to the other 7 who thought that if it’s not done well, it can look tacky and unoriginal. However, we hope to do it well to avoid these criticisms.

What type of music videos do you watch more?

Narrative Performance02468

This feedback confirmed or thoughts. A music video with a narrative tends to grip the viewer more and makes them watch the whole way through as opposed to just watching a band performing. However, due to 4 people saying Performance is better, we have decided to include a small amount of performance through our protagonist, Alice, lip syncing the few lyrics that are in the song.

Which locations from Alice in Wonderland would work best for a Horror themed music video?

Tea Party Forest Castle Maze Other0

This again confirms what we were thinking of as our locations as we felt that a forest and a tea party would be the most effective and easiest for us to do in the short time that we have. 10 people said that a forest would be the best and 7 people said a party. 1 person also suggested “other” which they listed as “Queen of Hearts garden”. Although this is a good idea and is in the Alice in Wonderland movie, it would be impractical and hard to do well.

Would you expect any other inter-textual references in this music video other than Alice in Wonderland?

Yes

No

We were thinking of maybe having some inter-textual references to The Shining to give it the horror aspect but from our audience feedback, we have decided against it and will just focus on the Alice in Wonderland references.
