Front Cover AnalysisFront Cover AnalysisMastheadMasthead – The masthead for this magazine is in red and is behind the picture of Janet Jackson. It is large and takes up about a ¼ of the page. The font is sans serif and is in bold.

HeadlineHeadline – The headline tells us about the celebrity on the front cover. “Janet Jackson” is written in bold and this tells who she is.

List of artistsList of artists – This tells us of the kind of music that will be inside the magazine. It also gives us a list of who we can expect to find inside the magazine and what kind of articles.

BarcodeBarcode – Vibe magazine follows the normal conventions of having the barcode in one of the lower hands of the magazine.

LineLine – “A history of Hip Hop” this gives us an insight into one of the articles that will be inside the magazine.

Cover ImageCover Image – The cover image is a picture of Janet Jackson holding a camera. This tells us that one of the main articles in this issue will be about Janet Jackson and some part of her career.

and black outline. It covers the left top half of the page. It is in block capitals. The font is sans serif.

HeadlineHeadline – The headline is “they got 99 problems but Jay-Z ain’t one..” this is written in white too contrast against the black picture behind it. The sentence gives a hint on one of the articles that will be inside the magazine.

PuffPuff – This is the little yellow star with writing inside. This is o that it draws the readers eyes to it. It’s a short snippet to gain attention.

Strap line Strap line – The strap line across the top is a subheading in a newspaper or magazine article or in any advertisement.

Colour Scheme Colour Scheme – This magazine sticks to colour scheme of black, yellow and white. The magazines a rock magazine and by using the colour black a lot it helps the rock theme.

List of bandsList of bands – At the bottom of the page the magazine has given a list of artist names and this helps the reader to get an idea of what artists will be featured in the magazine.

BarcodeBarcode – The magazine has placed its barcode in the bottom right hand corner of the page. Near the barcode you can find the price and information about the magazine. Barcodes are usually in the bottom right hand corner and this magazine has stuck to that.

PugPug – “UK TOUR EXCLUSIVE” has been written in a yellow pug. Apart from the pug itself, the capital letters help to draw in the reader to that specific part of the page.

Contents AnalysisContents AnalysisLayoutLayout – The layout of this contents page has a few

pictures across the top of the page to help illustrate the writing beneath it. They also have anchors across the pictures, so that the readers know what's inside the pictures. Underneath the pictures are the page numbers and what’s on each page. Then underneath that is another big picture to help illustrate what kind of magazine this is.

Colour SchemeColour Scheme – The colour scheme of this contents page is yellow, white and black. Black is a dark colour and is usually associated with rock music. So the magazine was right to choose this colour as it is the right colour for the target audience.

TitleTitle – The title of this page starts off not going towards the norm, as it has been put on the right side of the page when usually titles are placed on the left side. The title is in white as it sticks to the colour scheme and it contrasts against the black background behind it.

put straight in the middle of the page with the writing being put around it. The picture takes up most of the page. It also has writing across which helps tell the audience why the picture has been put there.

AdvertisementAdvertisement – At the bottom of the page just underneath the picture and advertisement has been placed there. Magazines usually put them there as they can get money from the business for advertising for them.

ArticlesArticles – The magazine has shown what articles are going to be inside on the right hand side next to the big picture. It sticks to the colour scheme and is easily viewable.

picture of a person and underneath the magazine has put quotations of something he has said. This gives the reader an insight into what he has to say.

DatelineDateline – Above the word contents the date has been put in white, this shows the reader the exact date that the contents page was made.

Magazine TitleMagazine Title – “NME” has been put in the top left of the page. The top left of the page is the first place that the reader will look. This just reminds the reader of what magazine it is.

PicturesPictures – The pictures on the contents page have all been anchored and they are there to help illustrate the band index.

Double Page SpreadsDouble Page SpreadsIn this magazine the colour scheme is blue,

black and white. Blue and black are very masculine colours, this can lead us to believe that this contents page belongs to a magazine made for men. AC/DC is written in big white letters this is so it is easily able to see against the picture. The picture takes up half of the left page sp that it is one of the first things we look at when we look at the page. Each picture has been anchored so that the reader knows exactly what the picture is there for. All the writing sticks to the colour scheme of blue, black and white.

Double Page SpreadsDouble Page Spreads

For this double page spread the colour scheme is white black and pink. The colour pink shows that this magazine is aimed at girls as it is a very feminine colour. We can also tell that this magazine is aimed at girls because Mcfly is on the cover. Mcfly is mostly aimed at a female audience. Each picture has been anchored in white text to contrast against the pictures behind it. The ratio of pictures to text is there are more pictures than text. The double page spread is mostly filled with pictures with the text running down the left hand side.

Double Page SpreadsDouble Page SpreadsFor this double page spread it has been split

into the main picture on the right hand side and on the left hand side there is just text. On the text side there is a heading that covers up most of the page. The colour scheme for the double page spread is blue, black and white. The colour scheme is kept throughout. For the first letter of the text a drop capital has been put there to look more professional. The drop capital is in the same text style as the heading. The text has been put into two columns. The picture on the right has been anchored so that any reader that doesn’t know who it is would know.
