ABOUT KERRANG

• UK based magazine that started on the 6th June 1981 and is purely based on the rock genre.

• Bauer Media Group is the publisher of this magazine.

• Founded by Geoff Barton.

• Based in London.

• 42,077 is the circulation a of July 2012.

• Weekly magazine.

• Used to be a one time supplement in the Sounds Newspaper.

• Original owner was United Newspapers.

COVER PAGE – MAIN IMAGE• The main image is of the rock band

Muse.

• It is a three shot medium close up which enables the reader to see their expressions. They all look proud and relaxed. This links with the coverline, “Muse – The unstoppable rise of Britain’s Biggest Band” as they seem proud and happy about this.

• They also seem to come out of the page as they are over the masthead.

• Black clothes directly link with the rock genre of music.

COVER PAGE MASTHEAD

• The masthead is a consistent font and size in every edition of the KERRANG! Magazine. The only thing that changes is the colour.

• Always in the same position and stretched across the whole page.

• Magazine is mainly focused on Rock.

• The masthead is either behind or in front of the image.

• Distinct feature of the masthead allows instant recognition by the audience.

COVER PAGECOVERLINES

• The main coverline relates to the main image as it does on every magazine. It tells readers the brilliance of Muse and how they are the biggest band in Britain and STILL rising.

• The other coverlines all relate to the contents inside the magazine and make it appeal to the audience, like the coverline “HUGE FREE POSTERS!” or “FREE GIANT POSTERS!”.

• No real house colour style for the coverlines.

• Sans Serif font.

• Arranged in a kind of ‘C’ pattern starting at the masthead this time.

CONTENTS PAGE

• Main image shows a picture of the rock relentless tour.

• Masthead is used for the sub-heading/

• There is also a note from the deputy editor.

• Contents is laid out with headings signifying categories.

• Credit for the photographer who took pictures for the cover and contents pages.

• Adverts about “kerrang!” and how you can pay to get it delivered to your door.

• Contains issue number and cover date.

DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD• This double page spread is of the

relentless tour in 2010. It is a review of the tour.

• There is also a caption in the top right hand corner which is the masthead.

• There is credit for the editor and photographer on the left hand side.

• Lots of images of the tour around the double page spread.

• Uses the conventions of a drop cap which takes up four lines.

• Page number is at the bottom left and next to it is a smaller version of the magazine masthead.

HOUSE STYLE OF KERRANG! MAGAZINE

• Cover page –

• The masthead on every edition is the same font and always stretched across the whole page.

• Coverlines generally follow the ‘C’ pattern and the rule of thirds.

• Contents page –

• All contain the masthead “KERRANG!” as the sub-heading.

• Always contains issue number and cover date.

• Note from editor or deputy editor.
