The use of Director

In the introductory clip the Director has chosen to feature himself, which in fact is a very creative idea.

The camera slowly approaches him as he holds a director’s slate/clapboard with his name on it.

The idea is great as it allows the audience to become familiar with the director and producer of the short film, something we may consider using in our product.

Effect on the introductory clip

Visual effect

The director Tom Antos, then snaps the clapboard shut and writing emerges, each letter appearing once, spelling out ‘presents’.

I think this is a great way to introduce a short film as it is quick but effective, and not the typical text on the screen.

There is background music which continues on into the frame in which the title is in.

Dinner Date

The next shot is an establishing shot to inform the viewer where the narrative is taking place to create an atmosphere. There is focus on the tree bark located to the right of the frame, and the white text with the transparent filling is located in the central area.

This is a more scenic opening, as opposed to having an opaque single coloured screen with the title of the production appearing.

Credit sequence

The first frame consists of text on a black background with the names of the cast that starred in the production. This is unusual yet efficient for a short film as it allows for faster reading and adds to the snappy feel as opposed to having the classic credits that go from the bottom to the top of the screen.

Then Music credits are added in a separate frame, in the same font. However a tab above also pops up (on the YouTube video) promoting the school in which the video was made. There also is a subscribe button which makes it easier for the viewer to subscribe to their channel with just one click. This is a great way to display your product on a platform such as YouTube as you are getting views and subscriptions, allowing for greater promotion.

Credit Sequence

Lastly, the classic credits are added, again repeating the cast, but also mentioning the extras and the crew involved whilst filming.

Down below, there are links to their facebook and twitter pages. This is a great way to promote their film/company on another platform so the audience are able to gain more awareness and ease when directing themselves to their page.
