Analysing Our Digipak Booklet

We felt that the style of our font captured Gaga’s unique image, and is similar to that of her real album covers. We like the style as the letters placed within the lines resembles music notes.

The artist’s name is large and bold, promoting Gaga’s image and drawing the attention of an audience.

The writing is white, placed against a black background, making the information stand out.

We chose this image for our album cover as it shows the artist’s face, as most album covers do, clearly and boldly. Using only the one image makes Gaga stand out, and in having her facing the title of the album she becomes involved in it.

We have left the first page of our digipak blank as we did not want to overwhelm an audience with images or information. Also, in our research of digipaks, we found that Gaga includes blank pages in her own digipaks, and have taken inspiration from this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w-w7CmkpbLA&safe=active

We have chosen a single, blurry image of Gaga for this page. She is looking at the audience, making the image personal and in using a blurry image of her face we are hinting at Gaga’s ‘odd’ presentation as an artist.

We have included a picture of a Bible, reinforcing the elements of religion within our video for ‘Bloody Mary’.

The writing indicates to the reader what the information on the following page is. The font is italic and appears old-fashioned. We felt that this font would appeal to our female target audience. The writing is black in colour, standing out against the white pages of the Bible.

We included this image of ‘Bloody Mary’ in the graveyard to emphasise the elements of religion within the single ‘Bloody Mary’. Gaga’s image is sombre and creepy, emphasising the way in which she notoriously changes characters within her videos.

This writing indicates to an audience that the following page shows the lyrics to ‘bloody Mary’. We have used the same font as the previous page, continuing to target our female audience.

The white of the lyrics stands out against the background. We have used an image of the graveyard to maintain continuity between the two pages.

We really like the image of ballet feet against a black background. The image of ballet highlights Gaga’s position as a dancer within her videos. The image has been edited to change its contrast, making it blend in more to the black of the background, and giving it more of an artist feel to it.

Throughout the digipak we have included the lyrics of Gaga’s most popular songs, attracting our audience.

We have created a collage of shots in these two pages. They are images both from our video for ‘Bloody Mary’ and from behind the scenes. Gaga’s image changes between the images, emphasising her versatility as an artist. The behind the scene shots involve an audience further within Gaga and her work.

Mother Monster

For the final page of our digipak we have created a final message for our target audience. It is written from Gaga herself, making the digipak more personal for a reader. We have maintained the use of italic font for our writing throughout the digipak, creating continuity and continuing to target our female audience. The use of white writing against a black background appears simple and maintains the idea of there being a connection between Gaga and the reader.

In our research of Lady Gaga, we found that she refers to her fans as “Little Monsters”, and we have therefore used this title in our address to the reader. This personalises the message and promotes Gaga’s motif and image.
