Analysing Magazine Images

Introduction

• In this slide show I will be analysing images and how the varied postures, colour schemes, effects and shots create different moods and atmospheres to fit a certain genre of magazine.

Shot 1

This image uses a soft textured background which creates

an easy and calm atmosphere and by using this background

portrays to the readers’ that the female in the image is happy

, calm and laid back.

She’s wearing simple clothes with the

colours scheme associating with the background. The simple

comfy clothes can also suggest she is a student and

comfortable with the way she looks which creates a new

respect amongst the readers’.

The girl is staring directly at the camera which invites

readers’ to come and read the magazine.

She is taken at a mid shot and her posture is a

comfortable slouch which makes the readers’ feel calm.

Her overall appearance, posture and background

represents the kind of girl you would like to be friends with.

Shot 2

The bright red background symbolises aspects such as

passion and danger. Which is portrayed in this females

personality of being passionate yet abit risky.

She is wearing little clothing as to show a lot of skin as to

attract attention – she doesn’t look like a ‘behind the

scenes’ kind of girl. She is wearing black clothes to contrast

against her pale frame. She has a choker around her neck

which symbolises a dog and the idea of being controlled.

Her lips are bright red and slightly parted to represent

being sexual.

The woman is staring directly at the camera with a serious

expression on her face to attract the readers’ attention yet

make them feel slightly uncomfortable.

Her posture is a hand on her hip to show attitude and she is

leant back to display her body more to the readers’.

The woman has been taken at a close up to show power and

authority to make the readers’ feel as though they need to buy this

magazine as she is telling them to.

Her overall appearance, posture and background suggests she’s out to

get attention and always succeeds.

Shot 3

The background is dark and closes in on the girl featuring the

photograph in order to show mystery and suggest there’s a lot

more behind this girl than people think. She is wearing quirky

mis-matched clothing which could be a kind of ‘old school’

look and could easily be on the front cover of a rock magazine.

The girl is again staring directly at the camera with a bemused

expression on her face as if she doesn’t care

much for people’s opinions. Her hand signals that she has an

attitude and creates peer pressure to be a certain way.

She is taken at a high angle mid shot and her posture is well

built and leaning forward towards the camera to try be-little

the reader yet also be hooked into purchasing a copy of the

magazine. Her overall appearance suggests that even though

she is an individual she is well respected and doesn’t care

much for other people’s opinions, in a way it is effective as it is

encouraging readers’ to be individual.

Shot 4This photograph uses a soft textured background in order todefine the outline of the girl’s delicate frame. She is wearing a black dress that is flattering against her small frame, thesleeves have large cuffs to show the sharpness of her arms and there is a cut out section between the top of her back andThe bottom of her waist – as she is only showing a little bit ofskin this suggests the girl is a little bit cheeky and doesn’t reveal all at once – this can help us identify what herpersonality is like. The girl is staring directly at the camerawith a serious expression on her face to draw the readers’ attention but also make them feel slightly uncomfortable. Her lips are slightly parted to represent being sexual. The girl’sposture is slightly leant forward to draw attention to her bodyShe is taken at a mid shot from a low angle so that we are looking up towards her, this makes her come across as powerful and that she is something to idolise. Her overall appearance suggests that she is the girl everyone wants to be like,all the girls aspire to her and she knows it and uses this to heradvantage.
