Moving Iron Meter

C lapper type repulsion design using pivots, hairsprings and jew el m ovem ents.

The bottom jew el is oil filled to provide dam ping w hile the top is sprung for resilience.

A ll voltm eters are m anufactured w ith external voltage dropper resistors to substantially

reduce the self heating effects.

Frequency MeterM eter uses a 100 m icroam p 4000 ohm m ovem ent driven by an EM C hard frequency

conversion circuit.

Dials, Scales and PointersStandard dials are w hite m atte w ith black printed scales and bar knife-edge pointers.

B lack dials w ith w hite or yellow scales and pointers are also available. Interchangeable

Maximum Demand Indicators

The therm al/tim e characteristics of M D I m eters m onitor the m ost

econom ic use of cable, fusegear and transform ers. The directly heated

bim etal elem ent indicates m ean R M S current over 8, 15, or 20 m inutes,

and a red slave pointer show s the highest value reached. The reset knob

is w ire sealable. Scales are calibrated to m atch the C T prim ary plus 20%

overload. End values are selected from : 1.2, 1.8, 2.4, 3, 3.6, 4.8, 6, 7.2,

A n extensive range of 48, 72, 96 and 144m m D IN style panel m eters

resistant and vibration proof and supplied w ith term inal covers.

A selection of slide-in dials and custom ised options are available.

MovementsIn C rom pton Instrum entspatented H i-Q taut band suspension, all the delicate parts ofthe traditional instrum ents are elim inated. There are no pivots, no jew el bearings, no

hair-springs and no air dam ping vane. Instead, a tough platinum ribbon suspends the

m oving elem ent betw een front and rear tension springs. Specially contoured pads are

fitted to the ends of the spindle, and the w orking gap at each end is filled w ith a high

quality silicon fluid. The pads, together w ith the fluid reservoir, form a system w hich

acts as a resilient built-in shock absorber. This provides both rotational and longitudinal

dam ping as the m oving elem ent floats on oil w ith no bearing friction and is effectively

cushioned against shock and vibration. 360 synchroscopes and pow er factor m eters

have robust pivot and jew el bearings w ith oil dam ping.

Dials, Scales and Pointers

Standard dials are w hite m atte w ith black printed scales and bar knife-edge pointers.

B lack dials w ith w hite or yellow scales and pointers are also available. Interchangeable

add the new m oving iron AC am m eter and voltm eter w ith selector sw itch to

its com prehensive range of panel m eters. These 96m m and 72m m unitsoffer Class 1.5 true RM S m easurem ent of three-phase A C voltage or current

w ith various sw itch notation options. The integral selector sw itch elim inates

the necessity for a separate selector sw itch, saving valuable panel space

and providing installation benefits. Both am m eters and voltm eters feature a

slide-in dial, scaled for VT or CT values to suit application prim ary values.

These robust m oving iron m eters incorporate a clapper type repulsion

design w hich utilises a pivot, hairspring and jew el m ovem ent. The bottom

jew el is oil filled to provide dam ping w hile the top is sprung for resilience.

Voltm eters are m anufactured w ith internal voltage dropper resistors.

Impulse Counters

Im pulse counters can be used to m easure any param eter w here there isan applicable pulse that is directly proportional to the m easured param eter.

For exam ple, the num ber of m otor starts can be recorded by using a

com bination of Paladin transducers, kW h, am pere hour, VA hour. The

counter registers one digit every tim e an on/off voltage pulse is applied to

the input term inals, and is non resettable to prevent accidental resetting.

Temperature Indicators

Long-scale indicators are used to read tem perature values, usually

rem otely w ith R TD or therm ocouple sensors supplied by the custom er.

R TD (R esistance Tem perature D etector) indicators m easure the change

in the sensor resistance. A 2- or 3-w ire system m ay be used.

Therm ocouple indicators accept standard m illivolt input signals. C old

junction com pensation is provided and therm ocouple break indication is

in 41/2" and 83/4" case sizes, their rugged design characteristics m eet the

needs of the m ost dem anding environm ental applications. This extensive

range of analogue and digital/analogue m eters utilises high shock oil

dam pened m ovem ents and provides 1% accuracy for all R M S A C and D Cranges. The range offers various custom ised options and features.

Description070 series offers tw o case sizes, 41/2" (M odels 075, 077 and 078) and 83/4" (M odel 079).

M odel 078 is high shock herm etically sealed and all m odels have heavy gauge pressed

steel cases. M ounting is by four integral studs.

M odels 075 and 077 are a one piece flam e retardant polycarbonate m oulding w ith a

black m atte finished bezel area, and a specially contoured w indow to m inim ise reflection

from adjacent light sources. M odel 079 has a black pressed steel bezel w ith a

toughened glass w indow , and M odel 078 has a die-cast bezel and a projecting m oulded

toughened glass w indow , w hich incorporates a gas tight zero adjuster.

Scales are 240 m oving iron and 250 m oving coil w ith parallax error-free platform dials.

Standard dials are w hite m atte w ith black printed scales and bar knife-edge pointers.

B lack dials w ith w hite or yellow scales and pointers are also available.

G eneral options include supplem entary red pointer (075 and 077), slave pointer,

calibration for non standard am bient tem peratures, special scales, trim potentiom eters,

and Illum inated dials w ith w hite or red light sources.
