Next training: 9:30am Sunday 6 at the station. All members to attend Sunday 13 November: we invite past and present members along with the entire community to a special morning tea 9am at Anakie Hall, Staughtonvale Road. We will present current service awards, as well as the official handover for our FCV and Ultralight from the CFA - all welcome. Lots of rain, now some warmth and the grass is growing crazy - please play your part in helping protect our community and keep the grass (and weeds) cut back

and sprayed on your properties. Coming up the CFA will run a fire awareness community meeting; there will also be street corner meetings for high risk areas. Watch for flyers outlining dates. Keep updated on CFA news, check the www.cfa.vic.gov.au website, Fireready app on iPhone and Android and check out our Facebook page. Any community members interested in joining our brigade, come down any Sunday morning at 8:30am for a chat. David Walter, 1st Lieutenant Anakie CFA

1st Anakie Scout Group On 16 October cubs, scouts, families and friends went on a wonderful bike ride. It was an 18 kilometre round trip from Fyansford to Breakwater and back. What a fantastic day! (The rain held off until we got back to Fyansford – whoo hoo!) Poor Alisha had her brakes jammed on the whole trip; she even had to peddle downhill! Red faced and puffing, no wonder Alisha… There will be a dress-up night on 9 November following the term theme of The Jungle Book. Regatta will be the weekend of 12/13 November; stay tuned for more hilarious pics of cubs doing great things! Red Wolf & Sahi

Hi. I have provided something different today. As we approach

what will likely be a bad mosquito season, this internet

recipe may be worth a try.

Mosquito yard spray

3 stubbies of beer 1 big bottle of cheap blue mouth wash 3 cups Epsom salts

Mix ingredients together until Epsom salts dissolve. Put into a spray bottle and use where you want to repel mosquitoes. Lasts approximately 80 days.

For those who do not, or cannot, comprehend why

Facebook exists: I am trying to make friends outside of Facebook while applying the same techniques. Every day I take a walk and tell people what I have eaten, how I feel at the moment, what I did last night, what I will do later and with whom. I give them photos of my family and pets and of me gardening, mowing the lawn, taking things apart in the garage, standing by landmarks, driving around, eating lunch and doing what we all do every day. I listen to conversations, give the “thumbs up” and say I like them. It works just like Facebook. I already have four people following me: two police officers, a private investigator and a psychiatrist.

(Thanks, Bernie Bourke, for this little gem)
