Sam ParkPresident, Skolkovo Institute for Emerging Market Studies

Dr. Sam Park is the President of the Skolkovo Institute for Emerging Market Studies and Chair Professor of Strategy at Moscow School of Management Skolkovo. He was also the founding President of Samsung Economic Research Institute China. He is a member of the Academic Council, and Director of the Center for Emerging Market Strategy at China Europe International Business School. Prior to his move to China, Sam was Professor of Strategy at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey. He also taught and served on the faculty at the University of Texas-Dallas, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, and City University of Hong Kong.

Sam’s research has been published in several leading management journals, including Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, Strategic Management Journal and Management Science amongst many others. He is a frequent guest and commentator in the media as well as an eminent speaker on corporate strategy in board meetings and international forums.

Shashi Tharoor Member of Parliament and Former UN Under Secretary General

Dr. Shashi Tharoor is an elected Member of Parliament, former Minister of State for External Affairs and former Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations. He is the prize-winning author of twelve books including classics like Nehru: The Invention of India and The Elephant, the Tiger and the Cellphone: Reflections on India in the 21st Century amongst others. A widely-published critic, commentator and columnist, he served the United Nations for 29-years starting with United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Geneva. He handled key responsibilities in peace-keeping efforts after the Cold War, was a senior adviser to the Secretary-General, as well as the United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Communications and Public Information.

He has won India’s highest honour for Overseas Indians, the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman, and numerous literary awards, including a Commonwealth Writers’ Prize. A PhD from Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University, he was also awarded an honorary D.Litt. by the University of Puget Sound and a Doctorate Honoris Causa in History by the University of Bucharest.

Shekhar KapurCritically acclaimed director and a respected international film maker

Critically acclaimed director and a respected international film maker, Shekhar Kapur is a visionary film maker and storyteller who works at the intersection of art, myth and activism. Golden Globe-winning Director, Shekhar makes lush, international period films such as Elizabeth and Indian hits like Bandit Queen. Most recently, Shekhar’s short film “Passages” was part of the October 2009 film anthology New York, I Love You. Also in October 2011, he sat on the judging panel for 1 Minute to Save the World, a competition for short films about climate change.

Shekhar recently announced his social media venture, Qyuki, a unique social network for stories which he co-founded with the Indian music legend A. R. Rehman and has Cisco systems as an early investor in the project.

His forthcoming film Paani – the hindi word for water – explores Mumbai’s shrinking supply of water and its distribution underworld. Equally at home in Hollywood and Bollywood, he’s also a comics mogul; in 2006 he co-founded Virgin Comics as a venue for turning Indian and Hindu myths into pop-culture icons.

Francois CarpentierManaging Director and Vice Chairman, ALSTOM India

François Carpentier is the Vice Chairman & MD of Alstom Projects India Ltd. He is also the Vice President of Alstom’s Thermal and Renewable Power Sector. Prior to his India assignment, Francois was Country President and Executive Transport Director, Alstom Vietman.

Before joining Alstom, Francios worked with Alcatel in Colombia Venezuela as the General Manager and Regional Executive Director. He has also worked with Thomson-CSF UK as a Market Analyst and Assistant to the Managing Director - International Affairs Directorate. His role involved analysis of the British aerospace & defense market, follow-up of military and civil programs and participation in the Group UK strategic planning.

Since 2003, Francois has been appointed the Foreign Trade Adviser by French Prime Minister – Section Venezuela Vietnam, and now India. He is a graduate in Economics from the Institut Notre Dame de la Paix in Brussels and completed his Multinational MBA Programme from Institut Superieur de Gestion (ISG) in Paris.

Jyotiraditya Madhavrao ScindiaMinister of State for Commerce and Industry

Jyotiraditya Madhavrao Scindia is one of the youngest Members in the Parliament of India.

Elected to the Lok Sabha in February 2002, he was initiated into his new career with an almost unprecedented lead of more than 450,000 votes. Mr. Scindia is the Minister of State for Commerce and Industry since May 2009. In this role, he is directly responsible for all sectors of industry, plantations and negotiations on Intellectual Property Rights & WTO.

He was honored by the World Economic Forum in 2007 with the title of a Young Global Leader for his commitment to addressing some of the most pressing issues of today. Before pursuing an active life as a politician, he worked as an investment banker for Merryl Lynch and Morgan Stanley and also gained some development experience working with the UN Economic Development Cell. Mr. Scindia received his MBA from Stanford University in 2001. He also holds a BA in Economics from Harvard University where he was placed on the Dean’s list.

Viswanathan Anand Chess Grandmaster and Current World Chess Champion

Viswanathan Anand, acclaimed as the Fastest Brain in the world, has been the epitome of chess in India and has gained worldwide recognition. In a glorious career spanning 25 years, Anand has taken Indian chess to new heights. He has registered success in both the national and the international levels and has been entitled to a number of prestigious awards, for his excellence in chess. His hallmark lightening speed and intuitive play came to be recognized when he became the first Indian Grandmaster in 1987.

He has won the prestigious Leon Magistral nine times, Corsica Masters six times & the Mainz Classic a staggering eleven times. Anand is also a proud recipient of the Chess Oscars given for the best player, he received this award six times thus becoming the only non-Russian to achieve this feat. Beholder of the prestigious Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, Padma Shri and Arjuna Award, Anand is also the first recipient of the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award in India. Known as the Gentleman Champion in the chess world, Anand is a spokesperson for children with cerebral palsy (Vidyasagar).

Rasmus AnkersenHigh Performance Anthropologist and Leadership coach

Ninad KarpeManaging Director & CEO, Aptech

Ibukun AdebayoHead, Equity Primary Markets – Americas, South Asia, Middle East and Africa, London Stock Exchange

Ibukun Adebayo is responsible for London Stock Exchange’s (LSE) business development activities in the Americas, South Asia, the Middle East and Africa. In this capacity he has overseen almost 70 London IPO’s from the regions as well as being the Exchange’s regional contact for companies that have listed on London’s Main Market Professional Securities Market, Specialist Fund Market and AIM.

Educated in Bath, United Kingdom, Ibukun holds a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics and started his career as a foreign exchange trader for NatWest Markets in London in 1995. He went on to set up and run a successful business specializing in managing foreign exchange risk for African and Asian companies. Prior to joining the LSE, Ibukun worked for a financial communications company specialising in the dissemination of regulatory announcements. During this stint, he ran a team dedicated to blue chip clients from across the globe in the capacity of financial communications adviser and was special adviser to the Mittal (India) family and their companies.

Ninad joined Aptech Limited as the CEO & MD in Feb 2009 and since then has been aggressively driving strategy to position Aptech Limited as a global learning solutions provider. Aptech presently operates in India and 40 emerging countries across the world including China, with more than 1300 centres.

Prior to joining Aptech, Ninad was the MD of CA technologies for India & SAARC countries (CA was formerly known as Computer Associates). In his capacity as MD of the Indian operations of CA technologies, the world’s fourth largest software company, Ninad was responsible for leading the adoption of CA’s technology reach and strengthening strategic partnerships in India. Ninad started his working career as a Consultant, advising companies seeking to invest in India. During this stint, he authored several books on strategy, taxation and foreign investment in India. He is a regular blogger and is an independent director on the board of a few public companies.

Olivier BlumCountry President & Managing Director, Schneider Electric India

Olivier Blum currently the MD of Schneider Electric India Pvt Ltd., joined Schneider Electric in 1993 as a Marketing Engineer in France. Moving ahead as a Sales Engineer he quickly climbed the corporate ladder to assume different leadership roles. He held many senior positions from Vice-Director of France Sales Division to the Secretary of the Executive Committee and Company Program Vice President in 2001, both positions directly reporting to the CEO of the company.

His first major overseas assignment came about in 2003 when he was posted in China as Director - Marketing. He moved to India in January 2008 as Managing Director of Schneider Electric India Pvt. Ltd.

Sports lover at heart, Olivier is a Runner and plays Rugby or Golf and is an avid traveler who likes to explore new travel destinations. He is a people’s person and is especially fond of passionate and open people.

Michael BonehamPresident & Managing Director, Ford India

Michael Boneham is the President and Managing Director at Ford India since June 2008. In his role, he is responsible for the successful and ongoing implementation of Ford Motor Company’s aggressive expansion plans in India, including its move to volume production of both engines and vehicles in near and long-term future. Prior to this position, Michael was the Executive Director – Operations at Ford India, where he has been responsible for Product Engineering, Purchasing, Manufacturing and Quality. Michael has more than 24 years experience in the automotive industry, with comprehensive knowledge and understanding of Ford’s global manufacturing and operations.

Prior to his Ford India posting, Michael served as manufacturing director, Asia Pacific and Africa, based in Ford Motor Company’s regional headquarters in Bangkok, Thailand, where he was instrumental in driving significant capacity expansion of Ford’s operations across the region. Michael has significant experience in launching key new product for the Company and has held a number of senior international manufacturing positions within Ford Motor Company.

James Crabtree Head of the Financial Times Mumbai bureau

Dr. Arup Basu President – New Businesses & Innovation Centre, Tata Chemicals Limited

James Crabtree is the Head of The Financial Times Mumbai bureau. He has previously managed the paper’s op-ed page as Comment Editor. Prior to this, James was Deputy Editor at Prospect magazine, while also working as policy advisor in the Prime Minister’s Strategy Unit. James spent a number of years living in the US, first as a Fulbright Scholar at the Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University, and then in Washington, working as a senior policy advisor at the New Democrat Network.

Dr. Arup Basu is President – New Businesses and Innovation Centre at Tata Chemicals Limited. Prior to this, he headed the Indian Chemicals business of Tata Chemicals. Previously, Arup was Head of Haldia Complex in West Bengal where Tata Chemicals manufactures it’s Phosphate based Chemicals and Fertilizers. Arup holds a PhD in Composite Materials from University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology, Manchester and a B.Eng. in Materials Science & Engineering from Imperial College, London.
