22004 GETTING STARTED
Industry veteran Peter Bauer and fresh-faced freeskier Anian
Thrainer found Amplid in the belief that the world is ready for a
freeski and snowboard brand, equally committed to both sports and
their lifestyles. Peter's 20 years of R&D experience at Burton
Snowboards and Anian's meticulous approach to everything from
design to accounts make a strong union.
Oldenburg, a former Burton Snowboards factory, is chosen as
Amplid's first manufacturing partner. That spring, prototypes are
spotted around Austria's glaciers as Peter and Anian refine what will
be Amplid's first offerings.
Extensive R&D work is carried-out with carbon to develop the
Infrablack, a ski that will remain a flagship in the ski line for the
following eight years.
Meanwhile, the first ads are running and the boot of Peter's car
serves as Amplid's first official retailer.
2005 CAUSING A STIR
Amplid makes its first ISPO appearance and is nominated as a
finalist for the coveted Brand New award.
Amplid's lust for experimental R&D results in the development of
skis with binding inserts.
Benny Deeg, Teddy Berr, Dennis Ehlert, Luke Thorington and
Worldcup rider Stefan Falkeis become Amplid's first pro team.
Distribution partners are agreed across Europe: Germany, Austria,
Switzerland, Spain, France and Norway join the party.
2006 THE SUM OF ITS PARTS
Peter and Anian decide to recognize the many individuals
contributing towards Amplid's success, from artists to materials
suppliers. The Amplid Research Cartel (A.R.C. for short) is born.
Perhaps in hindsight the market wasn't ready for binding inserts in
skis. Mounting areas of Glass-reinforced Birch in the core prove a
durable alternative and replace the inserts in Amplid skis.
Obsessed with building stronger products, Amplid creates Abuse
Base Technology. Urban skiing and snowboarding is progressing at
lightening pace and this technology meets the sports' increasing
demands on equipment.
ARC rider Heise starts building his world renowned Jib Farm. Its
location, only two kilometres from Amplid HQ make it the perfect
place to develop new shapes and technologies.
2009 TECH & TEAM REACH A NEW LEVEL
With US distribution in place, US riders Justin Norman and Tom
Wallisch are signed to the Cartel Team. Tom stays with Amplid for
two years during which he films several defining video parts. Tom
also travels to Germany to visit Amplid HQ and Heise's Jib Farm.
Justin proves himself to be an integral part of the Cartel and is still
riding for Amplid today. Justin's influence on board design can be
seen in the Dopamine, LoBro and Pocketknife snowboards.
Amplid buys a sled to facilitate product R&D. How exactly is yet to
be determined.
The UNW8 and HiDef, which feature Amplid's new weight saving
HEXO2 Technology, are added to the line, meeting the needs of
Amplid's most demanding customer, Peter Bauer.
Seeing a hole in the market, Amplid creates the world's first twin-tip
/ gate ski hybrid. The C7's park geometry and Titinal sandwich
construction are a strange blend. It skis like nothing else on the
market and quickly becomes a cult classic.
In the summer of 2009 McRae Williams, a young and ambitious
freeskier from Salt Lake City, signs to the Cartel Team.
2008 THE AMERICAN DREAM
After a long search, Amplid finds a distribution partner in the United
States. Situated in Welches, Oregon, Amplid's US headquarters is
only a short drive from the foot of Mt. Hood, a spot with a rich freeski
and snowboard history,
Amplid and Elan's R&D relationship goes from strength to strength,
culminating in the development of both Wood Derivative
Technology (WDT) and PLT, a high-gloss, lacquer-less finish. Both
technologies have significant environmental benefits.
Amplid reacts on increasing demand from the freeski community
for a rockered fat-ski, the Cholestorone R.C. added to a growing
product line.
The Godfather of Spanish freeskiing, Pako Benguerel, joins the
Cartel team. Pako's signing marks the start of the Iberian
domination of the Cartel team. Luka and Noah follow Pako's lead and
sign with Amplid in 2010 and 2012 respectively.
2007 A MOVE FORWARD
After the closing of the Oldenburg factory, Amplid moves to the
highly regarded Elan factories in Austria and Slovenia. Moving to
Elan turns out to be an opportunity in disguise and enables Amplid
to accelerate the development of new geometries and technologies.
At a time when many brands are moving production to Asia, Peter
and Anian are even more committed to delivering on Amplid's
Proudly Manufactured in the Alps promise.
Roundtop Mountain alumni Steve Stepp joins the Cartel Team. Over
the next six years Steve develops an extensive portfolio of alter-
egos, trolls the Newschoolers forums a lot, and is occasionally seen
skiing on Amplid planks.
Amplid joins the rocker snowboard revolution with the Fenom.
Early adoption of this recycled technology allows Peter plenty of
tweaking time to get the flex and sidecut just right. Rider feedback is
good.

TEN WINTERS AGO...
Ten winters ago, buddies Peter Bauer (former Snowboard World Champion) and Anian Thrainer partnered to found Amplid::: Next Level Riding, a
snowboard and freeski brand for the anti-apartheid era. A lot has happened since 2004; promising team talents have become household names,
chairlift ideas have grown into full-blown industry trends, old factories have shut their doors and new manufacturing partners have opened their

2011 SENSIBLE DECISIONS
Amplid introduces the Green Light Project to the industry at ISPO
and returns home with the revered Eco Award for the mantelpiece.
Green Light is ground-breaking because of its ruthless commitment
to cutting polluting materials and processes from products.
The Sub-genius boot becomes a team-only product. Competing with
the big, well established players in the ski boot market proves one
step too far.
Amplid releases a line of helmets incorporating brand new
technology developed by VACO12. The innovative custom-fit
helmets create a fit like no other and offer exceptional impact
protection.
McRae Williams lands the first ever switch triple cork at the JOI in
Sweden.
2012 CATCHING BREATH
Anian decides to take a sabbatical to be more hands-on with his
new-born son, to finish the home he's building and to simply go
skiing..
Having lost-out to Smokin Snowboards during the previous year's
transfer period, Amplid finally signs American uber talent Dash
Kamp. On signing, Dash heads up to Windells to get his feet on the
product and falls head over heels for the HiDef, Amplid's slopestyle
wonder board.
Amplid begins to incorporate learnings and materials from the
Green Light Project into its entire line.
John Rodosky travels to Revelstoke, Canada to take part in his first
Freeride World Tour event. Rodo will later describe himself, while
stood at the top of the infamous Mac Daddy, as a nervous wreck.
2013 RENEWED MOTIVATION
The year starts with a trip to the Legendary Banked Slalom. For Peter
it's refreshing to be at what he considers to be the spiritual home of
snowboarding. Peter wins a silver Duct tape for finishing 2nd in the
Pro Master category, but gets lambasted by Shaun Palmer for racing
with the old men.
Anian's sabbatical reminds him that he'd rather be skiing than
running a ski company. Peter buys Anian's share of the business and
becomes the sole owner. Anian and Peter remain close friends and
regularly catch fresh lines and summertime beers together.
Amplid teams-up with GoPro to launch the Amplid Ambush
Academy, a talent search for the age of Social Media. 20 skiers and 15
snowboarders are chosen from hundreds of applicants and set a
number of video and self-promotion challenges in the following
months. Snowboarder Markus Haka from Finland and skier Tanner
Boudreau from the US are chosen to join the team.
McRae Williams has the slopestyle run of his life at the European X
Games in Tignes, France; he takes home the gold medal.
Amplid joins the burgeoning splitboard market with the release of
the Morning Split. Its lightweight construction and innovative
geometry are a hit with Splitters.
The year ends with the launch of the Amplid LAB. The LAB is a
skunkworks of sorts, created to push the envelope of ski and
snowboard design without the traditional market restraints. The
LAB grabs headlines by releasing the lightest ever splitboard (2.3Kg)
and snowboard (1.75Kg) in successive months.
2014 IDEAS ON IDEAS
Amplid refreshes its men's snowboard offering with two new boards
and the Carbon Split developed by the LAB. The new Pillow Talk
features Amplid's most extreme snowboard geometry to date.
Amplid's women's range is completely revised with two new and
relevant shapes.
After dipping its toe in the ski touring market in 2013, Amplid jumps
in at the metaphorical deep end by releasing The Ego Trip Evolution.
The Evo is a completely new all-mountain touring ski featuring
Rockwell-like Jekyll & Hyde Geometry and ultra-light HEXO2
Technology.
As promised, products and technologies developed in the LAB are
trickled-down into Amplid's 14/15 range.
PAGE 4 PAGE 5TEN SUCCESSFUL YEARS OF NEXT LEVEL RIDING
Ten years have passed in a flash, but when you take a minute to look
back it's incredible what Amplid and the ARC have achieved.
Sure, some of the ideas were more successful than others, but R&D,
successful or not, is the lifeblood of Amplid and what makes it
standout against the glut of cookie cutter brands. To lose that
impulsiveness and innovation from Amplid is to lose the brand.
So here's to another 10 years of wild ideas. We'll have successes to
build upon and an equal measure of failures to learn from, but if it's
anything like the last decade it'll be a lot of fun!
2010 MORE FIRSTS
The year starts off with a handful of Editor's Pick awards from
Freeskier Magazine. The newly released Rockwell, with its radical
5D shaping, scoops an award in its inaugural season and attracts a
lot of attention at tradeshows and at demos.
The decision is made to bring Amplid's first and only ski boot to
market. The Sub-genius' stormtrooper-like aesthetics and
controversially named Drink & Drive walk mode grab some
valuable exposure for Amplid.
Stomp guard Technology, an inch wide strip of Titinal running along
the effective edge is introduced to Amplid's premiere freeride
shreds. Lab tests prove that the force required to blow-out an edge
from a rock impact is almost three times greater with Stompguard.
Working closely with Elan, Amplid produces the world's first WDT
ski, the Provoke. The Provoke offers a new standard of durability and
performance at a budget price.
Jackson cowboy John Rodosky joins the Cartel team. It will be a
while before he develops his signature moustache.

The purists won't ride anything else, why would they? Camber is
synonymous with powerful ollie pop, snap out of carves and
superior edge hold. On the flip side, riding camber requires
concentration to avoid nasty edge catches, and strong legs and
setback stances in powder.

We're not the pioneers of this technology but we rode it and liked it,

Combining the tail support of real underfoot camber with the
floatation of an early rise nose is a tricky business - but we nailed it.
Entering a sketchy windblown gully with control, using its 2 ft. pow

Our Camrock recipe blends a gluttonous dollop of rocker in the nose

edge hold and smooth notes of effortless powder glide on your shred

JHG - The A.R.C has been busy developing new mind-bending shred
shapes. Skis and snowboards with split riding personalities: Max
effective edge and square centimetres in a min board or ski length.
Experimenting with complete shaping (outline, camber and core profile
together) in the lab and on the mountain has resulted in some crazy
discoveries: Unsinkable but nimble powder boards, sawn-off jib decks
with huge pop and edge-hold and the ultimate all-mountain ski recipe.
With Jekyll and Hide Geometry appearances can be deceiving.

The lightest woodcore money can buy.
Weightless Paulownia and Balsa are
carefully arranged with stronger Birch

weightier wood at the tips with feather-
light recycled paper honey-comb,
practically eliminating swing weight.
HEXO2 CORE TECHNOLOGY
Uber light wood varieties are cut, treated

WDT POLYWOOD CORE
Every gram that can be spared from our

and stored at -20C.
HEX MAT GLASS MATRIX
We arrange glass fibre along the length
of the ski and carbon from edge-to-edge.
The end result is a ski that flexes on
demand into carves but with a torsional
flex that keeps your edges biting no
matter how hard the snow gets.
HEX MAT CARBON GLASS MATRIX
Using Biax Glass in the construction of
our shreds gives them a flawless blend
of response and playfulness whilst
keeping them ridiculously lightweight.
GLASSFIBER LIGHT BIAX
The current level of Park and Urban

weaknesses, the trick is matching the strengths

backcountry rooster tails to burley triple kink
boardslides well provide a ride for everyone.
The simplest way to break-down our line of
boards is by shape and camber profile. From the
directional, punchy cambered, groomer

we've got your back.

SKIS
Each ski has strengths and weaknesses, the
trick is matching the strengths to your riding
style, terrain choice and the conditions you're
likely to shred. From fresh tracks through meter
deep blower pow to gnarly groomed cheese
wedges we've got a ride for everyone.
The simplest way to break-down our line of skis
is by waist width and camber profile.
From the unsinkable Lexington with its
exaggerated rocker line and monstrous 130mm
waist to the narrow Antidogma with a tight
sidecut and powerful Pop Camber. The
likelihood is Amplid builds a ski that meets your
style and performance demands.

style, terrain choice and the conditions you're
likely to shred. From fresh tracks through meter
deep blower pow to gnarly groomed cheese
wedges we've got a ride for everyone.
The simplest way to break-down our line of skis
is by waist width and camber profile.
From the unsinkable Lexington with its
exaggerated rocker line and monstrous 130mm
waist to the narrow Antidogma with a tight
sidecut and powerful Pop Camber. The
likelihood is Amplid builds a ski that meets your
style and performance demands.
