Pastor's MessageThis past Ash Wednesday, we began Lent. It was inspirational to see so many people come to church, receive ashes, and show enthusiastic resolve in setting out on this spiritual journey. With its practices of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving, Lent truly affords us an opportunity to get our spiritual house in order and focus on becoming all that God intends for us to be.
I was especially delighted to see our 51 catechumens (those receiving instruction to enter the Church at Easter) beaming with joy at the prospect of entering into this final phase of preparation to receive the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and First Communion at the Easter Vigil. We want our catechumens to know that we walk with them, that they can count on our prayers, and that we look forward to welcoming them into the fullness of our Christian Faith!
On this first Sunday of Lent, the Gospel of the Mass presents to us Jesus in the wilderness being tempted by the devil. I don’t know about you, but I have always found this scene in Our Lord’s life heartening. Jesus allows himself to be tempted not only to show us how to overcome temptation in our life, but also in order to show that temptation is part and parcel of our life. We should not be surprised if temptation comes our way.
The good news of today's gospel reading lies in the fact that Jesus himself was tempted. You are not spiritually or morally inferior because there lies within you desires that are unworthy.
You are not less than faithful simply because you consider cutting a corner or two here or there. In fact the opposite might well be the case - you might be experiencing temptation because you are worthy of being tempted.
What we need to remember when-not if- temptation comes our way is how Jesus dealt with and overcame temptation. He simply turned to, leaned on, and garnered strength from the Word of God:
One does not live by bread alone;Worship the Lord your God and serve Him alone;Do not put the Lord your God to the test.
Jesus resisted temptation’s way because he remembered God’s way. Let us do the same.
God bless, Father Rudy

A Message from Society of St Vincent de PaulOn a cold December day, just before Christmas, a parishioner family of seven lost their home and all their belongings in a house fire. Thankfully, the father and oldest son were at work and the 4 younger children were in school at the time. The mother who was home alone experienced smoke inhalation; but, otherwise escaped without serious injury.
The family needed to find a new home. A relative in McKinney offered to let them move in with them for a brief period. The family was thankful. Yet, it was difficult living with 11 individuals in a 3 bedroom home and commuting each day to take their children to school in Little Elm. They struggled to find an affordable home.
Distraught and feeling alone, the mother turned to their parish and the Society of St Vincent de Paul for help. Their persistence to find a new home paid off! They recently moved into a 2 bedroom mobile home near their children’s school.
Despite their tight living conditions, the family is happy and very appreciative. They offer hugs, prayers, and thanks to everyone for helping them in so many countless ways!
SVDP offers sincere gratitude to Knights of Columbus, K of C Ladies Auxiliary, other parishioners, and Sister SVDP Conferences for helping us make it a success by donating funds, clothing, furniture, and other household items; as well as, by moving the items into their new home. Because of YOU, they did not have to walk through their crisis alone.
Yes, heartbreaking circumstances happen right here in our own parish community. But, practical, compassionate person-to-person caring can make a world of difference.
In January, the Society of St Vincent de Paul (SVDP) was able to:• Reach-out to 148 Adults and Children (The majority are single parent households who experienced significant unexpected setbacks such as a spouse suddenly leaving the family, illness/accident, job loss, hours cut at work and etc. They do not come from families who can help them. Their savings are exhausted.)• Provide $3,407 to prevent cut-off of utilities, $13,439 partial rent payments, and other items such as needed medicine; and• Devote 769 hours to SVDP ministry work. Our funds are very low at this time. Please help those in need by making a donation at https://www.svdpfrisco.org/donations.We need more volunteer advocates, especially bilingual, to meet an extraordinary need.
To learn about becoming a volunteer advocate, please come to a SVDP meeting on Monday Evenings at 7 PM in Rooms C & D of the Parish Hall.
Experiencing a financial crisis? Contact the Society of Saint Vincent de PaulConfidential Assistance Hotline at 214-619-4096 for potential help.See the “Financial Assistance” under the “Help & Healing” tab of the parish website for more information. SQUIRES BREAKFAST
The Columbian Squires would like to invite you and your family to our monthly Breakfast Café on Sunday, March 17th following the 8:00 am and 9:45 am Masses.
Hagamos
lo mismo.
Dios les bendiga,
P. Rudy
