Year Round Education: Does it Work?

A school of a hundred people certainly cannot be run well if it does not have a leading group of several people, or a dozen or more, which is formed in accordance with the actual circumstances…and is composed of the most active, upright and alert of the teachers, the other staff and the students. - Chairman Mao Zedong

The purpose of this research is to show why YRE is a viable option.

Who uses it?

Is it cost effective?

Is there research to support its use?

What are the overall benefits?

Common Questions about YRE:

Who uses it?• California has the

largest number of YRE schools in the nation.

• Hawaii has the second most.

Research ConflictThere IS research to

support YRE

However, it is short and at times inconclusive

Why?

“The Man” means parents, teachers, school board leaders and state level education officials.

There are several reasons why research for YRE is not conducted:

Goes against the norm

Political agendas

Takes time

Costs MONEY!

YRE can be quite cost effective

It is already implemented in school systems

YRE helps students retain what they learn over vacation

The benefits are substantial

There needs to be MORE and BETTER funded research for YRE
