Preface
This guide shows how to setup the VLAN for different services in the Mesh network
In this guide we require some basic 802.1q VLAN concept so that can have better understanding of the setting
With VLAN configuration, we can build a separated wireless access network for different services in an optimal way, say, for VoIP or public services

Hint:In this guide, we reserve the default VLAN (SSID: PLANETAP) unchanged for management purpose.
And just let the newly created virtual AP as the network access purpose

Hint:In this guide, we leave SSID 2 and SSID 3 no encryption so that the users can be connected without any configuration. However, it can base on the real applications.
Hint:Since VLAN 2 and VLAN 3 are enabled, it also means that, ANY UTP port of MAP-3120 are 802.1q VLAN tag enabled.
That is, any wired devices if want to talk with specified group, say VoIP, should with 802.1q tagged packet to MAP-3120. In this example, the packet should tagged as VLAN2’s ID.

Switch Setup – 1/3
VLAN Group Setup – Example on FGSW-2620PVM
1. Click on VLAN, then Static VLAN
2. Click on Add to create a new VLAN, i.e. VoIP and FTP
3. Name of the VLAN
4. Key in the VLAN ID, i.e. 2
5. Add the two ports, port 19 (MAP-3120) and port 21 (VoIP groups)
6. Then click on Apply
7. Set port 19 as Tag port
8. Set port 21 as Untag port
9. Click on Apply to save the setting

Switch Setup – 2/3
VLAN ID Setup
Setup for correct PVID insertion
1. After the 3 VLAN created, click on VLAN Filter
2. Select port 21. Then key in 2 for its PVID. And Apply
3. Select port 17. Then key in 3 for its PVID. And Apply
Hint:After VLAN Group and VLAN Filter setup, now, the three VLAN are settle down no matter inward packet or outward packet.

Switch Setup – 3/3
Port Priority Setup
2. Select All High before Low
1. Click on QoS Configuration
Hint:Basically, it can be All High, or WRR.
However, not like pure Layer 2 Ethernet packet, most of the packets in this example are TCP IP-oriented where bandwidth is far below Layer 2 switch’s 100Mbps capability. To avoid Ethernet packet effect TCP IP-oriented packets, All high is suggested.
3. Then Apply4. And Click on Port Configuration
1. Use Shift-key to select all ports
2. Select 0 to turn on the port priority
3. Click on Apply to enable right a way
4. Select port 21 again and set the priority to 7 (highest)
5. Then Apply to let switch always handle port 21 packets in highest priority
Hint:After the setting, port 21 will be first handled always, this shall guarantee the Voice packets (data packets or acknowledgment packets) always be forwarded to Mesh Network before other packets to make sure the voice quality. However, due to Wireless network could be many factors in voice transmission, this is what the switch can not control.

Setup GW253 – 1/3
Step 1. Create new VLAN
1. Click on VLAN2. Click on Inactive VLAN, choose VLAN2
3. Then Edit
4. Key in the VLAN Tag ID.In this example, 2
5. Select Enable
6. Then, click on Apply to save the configuration
Hint:The ID, VLAN Tag ID here is the 802.1q VLAN ID that will be used from MAP-3020 to Switch’s outward packets.
Hint:The IP, Net mask column is used for purpose. If you would like to manage this AP through different VLAN Group, you may key in the IP, otherwise, it can be blank.
7. After that, turn on VLAN 3 as well
Hint:After that, there will be three VLAN in this page. VLAN0, the default VLAN (reserved for purpose)
VLAN 2, the VLAN that will be used for VoIP groupVLAN 3, the VLAN for Internet Connection.
www.planet.com.twPage 16 of 14
Setup GW253 – 2/3
Step 2. Setup new Virtual AP
1. Click on Wireless
The MAP-3120 will automatically turn on two virtual AP follow the two new VLAN created.
Hint:You may well direct use the auto-generated Virtual AP / SSID for your network. Or, of course, change it to a meaningful one
Hint:In this example, VLAN 0 is for management, so we will turn on the security.
And change the SSID and some configuration for these two VLANs.
2. Then click on Edit here to start Virtual AP 2 setup
3. Change to a meaningful SSID
Hint:In here, we would also suggest to change the Datarate to a fixed one, say, for example 2Mbps.
Basically, each voice channel will take 20 ~ 80Kbps. 2Mbps is quite sufficient for 25 channels concurrently.Of, course, it will depends on the real application.
4. Make sure this AP is Enabled
5. Click on Apply to save the configuration.6. Continue for VLAN3
7. Change to a meaningful SSID
8. Make sure this AP is Enabled
9. Click on Apply to save the configuration.

Setup GW253 – 3/3
Now, Gateway 253 is with correct VLAN setting and Virtual AP setting.
After a reboot of GW253, you shall found that Wireless devices can find two more AP in the network. That is PLANETVOIP and PlanetFTP at the same time.
Hint:Now, if users attach to PLANETFTP, then the LAN interface of MAP-3120 will tagged with VLAN 3 to the switch so that the switch can forward to the configured VLAN group accordingly.
Gateway 253’s Virtual AP founded in the adapter’s utility

Setup Relay 252 – 1/3
Step 1. Create VLAN
1. The same to Gateway 253, click here to choose VLAN2, VLAN 3
2. Click on Edit for the configuration
3. Key in the VLAN Tag ID
4. Enable this VLAN
5. Click on Apply to save the setting
Hint:Check again the three VLAN do existed in the page with correct VLAN Tag ID.
www.planet.com.twPage 19 of 14
Setup Relay 252 – 2/3
Step 2. Setup Virtual AP
Hint:The same to Gateway253, configure the virtual AP for VLAN 2 and VLAN 3.
And again, pre-define the data rate for High priority VLAN group, for example VLAN 2. It will provide more reliable connection for this VLAN. (The AP do not need to negotiate for optimal performance yet saving Wireless and CPU utilization)
Hint:You may also setup the same RF frequency, or manual frequency say in this example, GW253: ch11, RL252: ch 6For purpose. (In this example, we use different channel for easy knowing which AP is attached)
Of course, also can keep it as default, i.e. auto so that MAP-3120 will make the decision when it boot up.
www.planet.com.twPage 20 of 14
Setup Relay 252 – 3/3
After the setup for VLAN and Virtual AP, a reboot of Relay 252 will make the setting take effect.
Then, the mobile user, for example, Wifi phone users can walk around and always get connected
The switch will base on the priority to forward the packets.

Summary
With VLAN configured and co-work with proper VLAN switch, the Wireless mesh network can be divided follow the setting, just like wired VLAN network.
It is quite convenient for Wireless network that need to divide into different groups and different services like in this example, VoIP purpose and Internet connection.

Appendix – 1/3
How to configure Management for different VLAN group? By default, the management interface is opened for VLAN 0. And
if you would like setup management for differenet VLAN, then it will as below.
1. Click on HTTPD
2. Click on New Entry
3. Select the desired VLAN interface
4. Then, apply and reboot to take effect
Hint:The same to SNMPD, if you would like to setup SNMP management. It is the same setting for different VLAN or interface
www.planet.com.twPage 23 of 14
Appendix – 2/3
Reminder again for MAP-3120 VLAN For wired interface
VLAN 0 will be un-tagged packets
VLAN 1 to VLAN 15 will be Tagged packets
– No matter inward packets or outward packets
Those VLAN has nothing to do with IP subnet, it can be the same subnet or different follow network application
For Wireless interface
Different VLAN will direct map to different Virtual AP, i.e. different SSID
However, for MAP-3100 VLAN Different VLAN will means different IP Subnet in Layer 3
mode
