Midmark Diagnostics Group - Overview

• Incorporated in 1978 (Brentwood Medical Technology)• Providing devices that create test results which can be digitally

integrated into the electronic patient record.

• The leading provider of integrated diagnostic devices for today’s EMR – 80 EMR partners.

Award winning products• 2005 Competitive Strategy Leadership of the Year Award

- Frost & Sullivan Award Winner – 1999, 2005• MS-HUG Industry Solution Awards – 1997, 1999, 2004, 2005

• Pocket PC Magazine – Medical Editor’s Choice Award – 2004

Diagnostic Devices – Workflow issues

• Problems with today’s diagnostic devices- Large equipment that takes up office and shelf space

• Workflow issues – Inconvenient for both the patient and the physician• Inefficient – Increases hardware and supply costs• Interoperability issues – Not a integrated solution

- Creates a paper based report• Uses extra staff time to file reports (or scan them into an EMR)• Expensive thermal paper that curls and fades (staff must either mount thermal

paper on special mounting cards or photocopy report to prevent fading)

- Lack of connectivity solutions• Reports are scanned into the EMR creating a static report.• Interface options limit information exchange and create a data gap.

Diagnostic Devices – Interoperability Solutions

Interoperability Solutions - Integration• ActiveX Controls & .NET – Software tools for the EMR• Seamless data exchange – Becomes part of the EMR

- Allows electronic comparison among tests- Allows data mining from the EMR

Workflow solutions for various environments• Serial and/or USB port access• Thin Client and Fat Client solutions

• Wireless – Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, etc.

Bridging the Gap with IQmark devices

8AAFP 2005

“Systems are integrated only if they utilize a single underlying database, a common user interface and seamless navigation across all functionality. Anything less should be defined in terms of an interfaced system. Interfaces are developed to pass data from one application to another…Interfaces are not bad -- just limited.”
