Word of Life Intercessions for Life June 6th ~ Corpus Christi
May increased devotion to Jesus, hidden, yet really present in the Eucharist, deepen our care for unborn children, hidden beneath the hearts of their mothers;
We pray to the Lord: Lord hear our prayer.
Baptism: Pre-Baptism Class for parents required before all Baptisms. Please call Rectory for appointment. Holy Matrimony: Couples planning marriage must contact their Priest at least 6 months before the wedding date. A year in advance is not too early. Anointing of the Sick: Before a hospital stay, surgical procedure, or any serious illness, please call the rectory to arrange the celebration of the Sacrament.
We would like to welcome all visitors , friends, and families who are visiting our parishes this weekend. If you are interested in becoming a member of one of our parishes, please stop by or call the rectory.

St. John the Baptist, Onaka,
last celebration of Mass.
St. John the Baptist Parish in Onaka will have sa-cred use of the church coming to an end this sum-
mer. The parish will celebrate its last Mass on June 13, 2021 at 4:00 PM. This celebration will allow the
parish community to come together formally one last time to celebrate the legacy of St. John the Bap-tist Parish. Bishop Donald DeGrood will preside
along with Fr. Darin Schmidt concelebrating.
The Mass collection will go towards the St. John
the Baptist Cemetery Fund. The fund will continue to provide for the upkeep and maintenance of the cemetery. Any prayerful consideration for dona-tions is appreciated, whether you can attend or not.
Mailing address is St John Cemetery, PO Box 339, Bowdle, SD 57428 acknowledgement will be sent to
donor.
The parish is hosting an open house at St. John the Baptist before Mass, from 1:00 PM to 3:40 PM. You are invited to walk through the church, take photos, visit the cemetery, share stories with family
and friends, etc. Refreshments will be available.
A roast beef dinner will follow Mass at the Onaka City Park. It will be a free will donation event. Any funds donated above and beyond the cost of the meal will be donated to the St. John the Baptist
Cemetery Fund.
Progress is being made. Volunteers are need-ed to help with church grounds with cleaning the gardens on the northside of St Augustine Church, along with trimming of low hanging branches and weeding the rock beds surround-ing church. Clean the rectory gutters and attach
securely the downspout on eastside.

Just a bit from Fr. Schmidt Special Schedule for June 12 & 13
More and more things are getting back to normal. Around this time last year my parents celebrated 50 years of mar-
riage together (June 13, 1970), but it wasn’t the celebration we had hoped it would be. We had planned a big get-
together of all my siblings and their families—the first in quite a few years—but that had to be postponed. Instead,
we’ll be together to celebrate their 51st Anniversary next weekend. 35 people total, if I counted correctly. Please keep
my parents in your prayers, and the rest of my family that we celebrate safely and joyfully.
June 13 is a significant date for other reasons as well. It’s the Feastday of St. Anthony of Padua, the patron of the par-
ish in Hoven. It will also be the date of the Final Mass at St. John the Baptist Church in Onaka and the celebration of
the many lives and families that have been touched by God’s grace there through its many years of service.
Fr. David Axtmann will be filling in for me at the Masses that weekend. Remember that we’ve canceled the Sunday
morning Mass in Hoven on June 13. The special Mass schedule is as follows:
5 pm in Hoven on Saturday, J une 12
10 am in Bowdle on Sunday, June 13
4 pm in Onaka on Sunday, June 13 with the Bishop
I plan to be back for the Final Mass in Onaka and for the celebrations that follow. For more than 70 years since being
built to replace the previous one that burned down, the church in Onaka has seen children born again unto eternal life
through the waters of baptism, sins forgiven in Con-
fession, marriage bonds formed and blessed, funer-
als prayed for the deceased, and bread and wine
changed into the very Body and Blood of Christ.
Even as our houses and homes become such special places for all the memories made there and the growth that they witness, our churches are witness
to so many miracles, spiritual growth, and countless memories of the greatest significance. Please pray for all whose lives have been touched and hearts
uplifted within the walls of St. John the Baptist Church through the course of these many years.
