Executive Seating
Guest seating must be adaptable to many roles: asside chairs, pulled up to the conference table, in thelearning center, in the private office, or in high-trafficareas where long use-life is essential. Guest seatingis not intended for long periods of seated work, butmust provide short-term comfort and have a welcoming, comfortable look.

Stackable seating is used when occasional, trans -portable, easy-to-store seating is needed. Whetherused as side chairs, meeting chairs, in classrooms, orcafeterias, the challenge is to maintain an excellentaesthetic combined with great strength even thoughthe chairs are light in scale for portability.

Not every wood color is availableon every seating component. Thismatrix gives an overview of whichwood colors can be specified foreach seating component.
Tip: The wood used in the construction of chairs is either maple orEuropean beech. Wood finishes applied to maple or beech will matchthe color of stains applied to oak, walnut, or cherry, but will not havethe same natural grain. Composite color finishes will match the color ofcomposites on veneered surfaces, but will not have the same grainpattern.
**To ensure an understanding of the color ranges and characteristicvariations of natural veneer, a sign-off sheet is required prior to ordersbeing accepted for this clear-coat finish. The sign-off sheet is availablethrough Steelcase advertising stock. Form number 05-0001370
Note: Wood color 3522 is a clear coat. Therefore, the natural variationsin wood (maple or European beech) will be visible.
Note: Due to natural variations in wood, finish products may vary incolor, texture and grain.
***To ensure an understanding of the color ranges and characteristicsof composite veneer, a sign-off sheet is required prior to orders beingaccepted for composite veneer. The composite sign-off sheet isavailable through Steelcase advertising stock. Form number 14-0000141.

Guidelines for Directional Fabrics Guidelines forDirectional Fabrics
...............................................................................................................................................
...............................................................................................................................................
...............................................................................................................................................
...............................................................................................................................................
What is the issue? Some textiles are plain and look the sameregardless of which direction the fabric isapplied to the product. But many customersprefer fabrics that have patterns that give aclear direction to the textile. Because thereare limits to how directional fabrics can beapplied to panels and chairs, it is importantto understand directional fabrics to avoidbeing disappointed.
Talking about directionFabrics come on rolls. The long treads thatrun parallel to the length of the roll arecalled the warp. The perpendicular threadsthat run parallel to the width of the roll arecalled the filling.
Railroaded means the height dimensionof the product is perpendicular to the warpof the fabric; warp horizontal and acrossroll are other terms for running the fabric in this direction. All Steelcase standardfabrics are railroaded. The yardagerequirements for railroaded cutting arecalculated using the width of the fabric, quantity ordered, style of chair(s), andpattern repeat.
Woven way means the height dimensionof the product is parallel to the warp of thefabric; warp vertical and down roll are otherterms for running the fabric in thisdirection. The yardage requirements forwoven way cutting are calculated using thewidth of the fabric, quantity ordered, andstyle of chair(s).
What determines fabric direction? The width of the roll of fabric and thetechniques that are used to apply it to theproduct can both determine the direction.Standard default direction for seatingproducts with Steelcase standard fabrics is railroaded. No exceptions are possible.COM fabrics are standard woven way. Youmay specify a COM fabric to be cut in aspecific direction if the product allows it to be applied. The purchase order mustclearly state the cutting direction if it isother than standard.Tip: If you are changing the cuttingdirection of fabric, yardage requirementsmay increase, resulting in an additionalupcharge. This upcharge will be appliedto the purchase order.cSee Yardage Requirements in theSurface Materials Reference Manual forspecific information.
If you have any questions regardingcutting direction guidelines, please call the Steelcase Solutions Resource Team at 1.888.STEELCASE or 1.888.783.3522.You can also find this information on ourWeb site:• Visit www.steelcase.com
COM pattern exceptionsSometimes COM fabrics have patterns thatlook awkward or inappropriate if they areapplied in the standard direction (wovenway). Those cases are addressed withthese two pattern exception rules.
1Fabrics with stripes or flame stitch will beapplied so that the patterns are vertical.
2 Fabrics with patterns of people, vines, orflower arrangements will be applied so thatthe pattern is vertical.
