Are you planning a Winter wedding? What made you decide to get married this time of year - I would
love to hear your reasons and what preparations you’ve made. You can also find some ideas on my Pinterest
boards too - http://www.pinterest.com/localwedconnect/winter-theme/ I personally love the idea of
some cosy Ugg boots under a wedding dress!
So have you picked your wedding dress yet? Did you know what style of dress you wanted straight
away or did you have to try a few before finding the perfect fit? When I chose my own wedding dress, I knew
I wanted something with a bit of colour in it and a ribbon tied up the back. I was going to have a red trim to my
dress, but after trying one on, I didn’t like it! However the Bridal Shop was fantastic and showed me swatches
of the colours available and I eventually chose a golden/taupe trim. The only sad thing is that this Bridal Shop
closed down a couple of years later, so I can no longer recommend them, which is a shame.
Finally just to wish all my magazine readers a very Merry Christmas and best wishes for 2015.

Situated at the side of the River Trent, The Priest House
Hotel stands in a very scenic location. Surrounded by woodland,
this building was constructed around a Norman mill tower and
some of the old water wheels remain standing in the grounds,
giving some unique photo opportunities.
The venue is easily accessible for all your guests, as being
only 6 miles from the M1 motorway and just 5 miles from East
Midlands Airport makes it easy to get to yet it still remains in an
peaceful and idyllic setting.
The Priest House are part of the Hand Picked Hotels
Group and have even been awarded two AA rosettes for their
catering. They can even offer you a bespoke wedding menu,
allowing you to create your own menu for your special day.
With a licence for civil ceremonies, you can have your whole day in the same place, even staying the night and still having a private room
for the Wedding Party to have breakfast together the following morning, but it is all the little details that make this venue one you should check
out, from providing a wedding co-ordinator and a Toastmaster to help your planning and the actual day run smoothly, they will even roll out the
red carpet on your arrival - literally! They can also recommend suppliers that can cater for all the finer details, from lights and floral arrange-
ments to even a children’s magician to keep your younger guests entertained.
The venue itself can accommodate up to 100 guests for a reception
in The Riverside Suite, although they also had a supplier that can provide a
marquee that will cater for up to 350 guests, or there are also smaller
function rooms that can cater for more intimate ceremonies.
The staff are friendly and very professional - nothing is ever too
much trouble, no matter how small your request and the one thing the
hotel excels at, is that it gives a very relaxed and tranquil feel to your stay.
If you are looking for a wedding venue with a ‘wow factor’ then
this is definitely one to consider, why not arrange a viewing and also book
yourself a table for two and try the food for yourself beforehand or even
stay and sample the afternoon tea that is the hotel’s speciality.
Definitely a venue not to be overlooked.

Gift Lists
Talking Point
This is our discussion page and we want you to tell us what you think about the topics we write
about. You may agree or you may think it’s outrageous - whatever your opinion, we want to hear it.
We will print the best comments in the next issue of our magazine and on our Facebook page too.

Most couples will compile some form of a Gift List before they get married, but do you always get what
you really want and what items should you put on the list in the first place?
When my husband and I got married, we held our gift list with Debenhams and friends and family could
either buy items off the list in store or online. They could also leave the gift with Debenhams to be delivered to
us when we required it, or take the gift with them so they could wrap it and present it to us on the day, giving it
a more personal touch. The only problem we had, that we didn’t realise at the time, was that my Mother-in-law
had insisted on changing one of the items on the list! We had chosen several Denby pieces, which included
some dinner plates that she brought for us. We had specified the colour and design, but she told the store that
she wanted to buy us the other design in the same colour - and they let her! Should that be allowed? After all,
the Bride and Groom have stated what they wanted, why let somebody else change it? Ok, let them add other
items if they want to buy something else, but to change the original list, I thought that was unacceptable.
Another idea a friend used was that she created her own ‘Gift List Book’. As the couple didn’t want items
from one particular store, they created their own list by using a notebook with pages that could be torn out and
on each page wrote the details of one item and where it could be purchased from, along with the price. They
then showed this book to all their friends and family and all they had to do was choose a gift and then tear that
page out of the book, therefore removing it from the list. I thought it was a great idea and it seemed to work
well, the only problem would be if you have friends or relatives that lived a distance away and would not be
able to see the book easily. Although now there are websites such as Prezola where you can list items from a
range of various suppliers in one place.
These days many couples are already living together or one of them may already own their own property
so the problem then lies with what to put on your Wedding Gift List. You probably already own a toaster!
Alternative ideas are to ask for travel vouchers towards your Honeymoon or gift vouchers to spend at later
date. Some couples even chose to ask that their guests make a donation to a charity close to their hearts
instead.
What will you be adding on to your Gift List?

Here’s just a few ideas that I found on Pinterest. Check out more pictures on our “Winter Theme” board.

Why not hire a Reindeer for your photo-shoot.
Make sure your guests stay warm if the

A fantastic idea for favours or a table

Venue Review - The University of Nottingham
University Park, Nottingham
Are you looking for a unique venue for your wedding, a place where
people would not expect to get married? Well take a look at the University of
Nottingham. Located on the outskirts of the city, this venue has easy access
via main roads and is only a 10 minute taxi ride from Nottingham Train
Station too.
The Trent Building is surrounded by 330 acres of landscaped parkland
and therefore offers many opportunities for stunning wedding photographs,
including the walk down the terraces to the boating lake. The venue has a
very traditional feel, with the smaller vestibules with their oak-panelled
walls, leading through to the Great Hall and parties of up to 200 people can
be catered for.

Here you will also find award winning chefs and an excellent
catering team and they pride themselves on being as flexible as possible
to cater for your individual needs, from fine dining to carvery options
available, you will definitely be spoilt for choice.
You can also choose to stay over night too, as there is the
Orchard Hotel on campus too, although it is a 5 minute walk away from
the Trent Building where your reception will be held. The Orchard Hotel
has 202 bedrooms and its own bar and restaurant, so there is no need
for your party to end once you have left the main building.
The venue also has its own dedicated Wedding Co-ordinator who
will arrange an initial meeting and take you on a tour of the facilities
and discuss your personal requirements for your day.
The venue is also holding a Spring Wedding Open Day on Saturday 21st March 2015, so it would be a great opportunity to have a look
around the venue, meet some excellent local suppliers and also try out some of the refreshments too.
