The word casement is properly used to describe the framing material and glass of a side hung window. The frame material for other opening lights is termed a sash.Barry’s - ‘introduction to construction of buildings’.
Casement windows – these are main or common types of windows usually provided in buildings. The shutters of the window open like shutters of the door.
Sash windows – a sash window is a type of casement window in which the panels are fully glazed.
