Willow Lake News Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo June 2015 Dear Resident, This letter introduces Viola Pindog-Seguin who is an official municipal census enumerator for the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo. The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo is conducting its Municipal Census 2015 between April 1st and June 30th and we are asking for your help. The census provides a snapshot of the population and includes everyone from babies and short-term renters to lifelong residents. You may be surprised to learn that the shadow population is a very important part of the Municipal Census and accounts for more than 35% of the region's total demographics. If you have been in the municipality and employed here for 30 days or more, then you need to be counted! Why should you care? Census information helps the entire community. For each person counted, the Municipality receives over $200 in grants to make community improvements in areas like municipal fire halls, roads, and heated bus shelters. It also helps in planning for the needs of the community, including the number and location of schools, parks, transit stops, and emergency services. Additionally, the data provides valuable demographic information so that industry, community groups, businesses and the social profit sector can tailor programs and services to meet needs. Census 2015 is being conducted under the authority of the Municipal Government Act and the collection of personal information is authorized by Section 33(c) of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act. All individual information collected, including demographic data will be kept confidential and will be only used for the production of anonymous statistics. Your cooperation in providing this important information is greatly appreciated. Thank you for contributing to the prosperity of the region. If you have any other questions about the collection of this information or about the census in general, please call the census office at 780-793-1071. Sincerely,
Marcel Ulliac, CAO Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo

Willow Lake News Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo June 2015
From the WLCA Board - New this month:
• We had a presentation about the upcoming 2015 Western Summer Games -
it’s just around the corner! There will be lots of events to see right here in our backyard and one good way to see them is by volunteering. Go to
2015woodbuffalo.com for more information, or contact Patty at the Rec Board Office.
• Cnooc/Nexen let our community know about their upcoming turnaround (aka shutdown). It will take place during the month of June and should be complete by the first week in July. As always, please call their community office at 780-334-2850 if you have any concerns about unpleasant environmental odours.
• The RMWB came to our community looking for input on a revision of their bylaws. They will be consulting all rural communities to gather information and hopefully be able to consolidate this into one document. At this time they were looking for information on property standards, not ATV usage, but our concern is that each rural community has unique needs. We expressed our concern with having a “one size fits all” set of bylaws, and we were assured that our concern would be brought forward to Council.
• The RMWB would like to know if Anzac and GLE would be interested in learning more about the rural crime watch program. They felt this would be a good program to help with reducing crime in our area. If you would be interested in having them present more information at one of our meetings, please let us know and we will set it up.
• In response to our concerns to increased theft in our communities, Bylaw Officers have been directed to drive through our area at least twice per week to show an increased presence. Make sure to give them a friendly wave if you see them driving around.
• We asked about getting a sidewalk along Cheecham Drive and other areas, but these plans are put on hold until our water and sewer services are in place so they don't have to redo the construction.
• Don't forget about our Community Clean Up day!! Join us at the Community Hall on June 6 at 10 am where you’ll get outfitted and given a route. Barbecue will follow as we know that all that fresh air will make you hungry!
• Also in June, there is Big Bin Day (June 15 at the hall for Anzac, and June 21 at the mailboxes for GLE) and Heavy item pick up on the calendar. See our Facebook page for more info.
• A big CONGRATULATIONS to the Bill Woodward School’s graduating class of 2015!
An exciting time for our whole community and we’re very proud of all of you. Best wishes in all your future adventures, wherever they might lead.
With the warmer weather and long days, please keep your eyes out for people on foot and riding bikes. And if you’re riding around on/in your motorized vehicle, please be respectful of the road rules and use common sense. We don't want to lose this privilege! Our next meeting is on June 8, at 7:00 pm. Have a safe and happy June. Darryl Woytkiw President Willow Lake Community Association

Update from the Anzac Family and Community Support Society “Start every day with a smile and get it over with.” - W. C. Fields Who knows, you may just keep it up since you’ve already warmed up those muscles :D Summer is here already and memories of that white stuff is rapidly receding. Yay! June is a very busy month - do you use lists to stay organized? It sure helps me stay on track. Then at the end of the day I look at the list, see all the checkmarks and feel like I accomplished something, or at least started. Do you have a good tip you can share? Send me an email or give me a call (contact info below). The AFCSS Board would like to thank Pauline at Anzac Grocery and Crystal with the RMWB for all their hard work in making our “Meals On Wheels” program a great success. Ladies, your efforts are noticed and appreciated! For more information about this program, or to see if you or someone you know might be eligible for this service, please contact us. Please note that Radio Bingo has finished for the season and will start up again in September. Thank you to all who organized it and attended! Stay tuned for the next date and time! We are committed to the health and wellbeing of all our families and community members, and as always, we welcome suggestions and ideas for things we can be doing for the citizens in our area. We are always looking for like-minded people to join our team. We meet once per month for about an hour or so, and then help put on the best Christmas Dinner in December. You are welcome to join us - we have room for you! Next meeting is June 15 at 6:30 pm. A big shout out to the first graduating class from the Bill Woodward School! We hope this achievement helps pave the way for all your future goals and helps make all your dreams come true. Congratulations!! Have a wonderful June!
