OUR MISSION AT
CENTRAL UNION BAPTIST CHURCH
IS TO SEEK, SAVE, SUPPORT, SHAPE AND SERVE THIS PRESENT
AGE. PROVIDING A HOLISTIC
MINISTRY FOR THE MIND, BODY, AND SPIRIT.
Greetings and Happy New Year to my beloved Central Union family. As I write this message to you, I am grateful to God for the privilege of serving as
your servant leader during this unprecedented time. What a blessing to be able
to live in a new year and a new decade! Most would agree that 2020 was a year like no other we’ve experienced. But thanks be to God that He has seen fit to
allow us to see 2021. I truly believe that this global pandemic is something God
has sent our way. What I mean is, in my spirit the only reason God would shut down churches and places of worship around the globe is if He really wanted to
get our attention. The question is, what is God saying to you as a Christian, to
the universal church collectively and specifically to Central Union Baptist Church? I sincerely believe that we must turn to the Lord in prayer and fasting in order
to hear from Him. To that end, I look forward to this year’s Holy Consecration
Period. As you read this message, we are nearly one year into a time that I’m
afraid has dulled many of our senses to the need for the saints to gather, pray and worship together (Hebrews 10:25). Although we know that Jesus has the
power to transform our lives, there is a seemingly clear disconnect between the
profession of our faith and our actions. We have a tendency to trivialize sin, Satan, salvation and the Savior! However, as we consider the sacrifice God made
for our salvation, we should never trivialize what it cost to save us.
Therefore, I have prayerfully chosen a study for Holy Consecration 2021 entitled “Torn”. It is my prayer that as we study the Scriptures and meditate on
all Jesus has done for us, we will grow closer to Him as our Savior this Easter
Season! This year’s Holy Consecration will begin on Ash Wednesday (February 17th) in
conjunction with Lent and end on April 2nd with Good Friday. Our 2021 Holy
Consecration theme is “Torn.” It invites us to study the torn temple curtain and explore the limitless access to God. Jesus’ empty tomb provides for all who
believe. Please see the Upcoming Events Calendar in this issue of the CU
Connector for more details. As I told you on this past Sunday, I am having major
surgery on February 8th. According to my doctors, I will be
out for six to eight weeks. I solicit your prayers as I undergo surgery and recovery. I also ask that you pray for
our deacons, ministerial staff and leadership team during
my absence. They are very capable and dedicated; so, please give them your total support. I further ask that you
keep each other in prayer. I look forward to the time when
I will be able to return to my calling and service to you.

What is WINTER?
WINTER is the season that begins on
December 21 and ends on March 19.
Most people complain about the weather in
Georgia, and deservedly so...if you are one of those who likes at least a little bit of order in your life. This past week has
spanned temperatures for freezing to nearly 80
degrees and from torrential rains to snow.
On the winter solstice, if you stand outside at noon and look at your shadow, it will be the longest shadow you cast the entire year.
Here’s why: Every day, the sun rises in the east and sets in the west, tracing an arc across the sky. The
height of that arc changes during Earth’s yearly orbit around the
sun. As our planet orbits, one pole is tilted
toward the sun, and one pole is tilted away
from it. During winter in the Northern
Hemisphere, the North Pole is tilted away from the sun, so the height of the arc is low—and
your shadow looks long.

On February 15, 2021, A variant strain of the Covid-19 virus was confirmed in the North Central Health District. “Until vaccine is widely available to everyone in Georgia, our best tools to stop the spread of COVID-19 and its variants are to follow public health’s transmission prevention guidelines,” said Erickson. NCHD encourages everyone within the district and across the state to help prevent the further spread of COVID-19, including variants, by following these actions:
Wash your hands often with soap and warm water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water a not available, us an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.
Avoid touching your nose, eyes and mouth with unwashed hands.
Avoid close contact with people who are ill.
Stay home when you are sick.
Cover your cough and sneeze with a tissue, then dispose of the tissue. If a tissue is not available, use the inside of your elbow to cover yourself.
Regularly clean and disinfect high-touch objects and surfaces.
Keep at least a six-foot distance from others in public spaces.
Avoid large gatherings or crowds.
Wear layered face coverings in public spaces.

'I can do anything': Fort Valley rallies around deaf woman after customer Facebook post

From 13WMAZ.com
FORT VALLEY, Ga. — If you've come to the
Subway here in Fort Valley, chances are you've
met Sharia Stripling.
Stripling started working at the Subway on
Commercial Heights Boulevard last October. Since
then, they've put up a sign notifying customers
that she's deaf.
"When I first started working here, I
communicated with them by lip reading,
sometimes I can voice, sometimes I can text back
and forth," she said. Through an interpreter,
the 31-year-old says she's been deaf since she
was a little girl.
Stripling says she loves her job, and it wasn't
until earlier this month that customer Caroline
Pettis spoke up after one of her Subway visits.
"On a couple of occasions, I saw people being
rude to her and she's just trying to do her job,"
Pettis said.
Pettis decided to post it in the Peach County
Discussion Facebook group, and dozens of people
flooded the comments showing their support.
Pettis says she didn't expect all the responses,
but it's allowed her to get to know Sharia and
her family.
"In today's society, you don't find as many
young people who are as kind and
compassionate as she is and actually works
hard," she said.
Sharia says she's competed in pageants since
college, including winning Miss Black and
Gold and Miss Deaf Georgia in 2013.
"I've set my goals and I've accomplished
many of them, pageants. I just feel like I can
do anything. Deaf people have the ability to do
anything they want to do. Just dream, set up
a goal, and go for it," Stripling said.
Sharia says she plans to continue competing
in pageants and her next one is coming up
this summer.
She also says she wants to become a
professional dancer, a cosmetologist, and
eventually own her own business.
The CU Family has been blessed to witness our diamond become
the polished gem that she is from her signing to dancing.
If you are interested in sponsoring Sharia in her bid for Miss Black International in The Bahamas, feel free to look her
up on Facebook. She reigns as Miss Black
Georgia International Ambassador.

1.To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
2.A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;
3.A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;
4.A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
5.A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
6.A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
7.A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
8.A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.
9.What profit hath he that worketh in that wherein he laboureth?
10.I have seen the travail, which God hath given to the sons of men to be exercised in it.
11.He hath made every thing beautiful in his time: also he hath set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the beginning to the end.
12.I know that there is no good in them, but for a man to rejoice, and to do good in his life.
13.And also that every man should eat and drink, and enjoy the good of all his labour, it is the gift of God.

Please, remember to pray for one another and especially those who are experiencing storms. It is easy to say the
words that “God works a storm in three phases.
We enter the storm, pass through the storm, and exit the storm. Whatever phase we are experiencing will be at His will as long as we work with Him.” Sometimes, we forget, but, no matter the circumstance, He will not forget or forsake us.
Also, say a special prayer for
the Hicks, Miller, and Gray Families in their time of bereavement, for Pastor
Dawsey as he continues his recuperation
and to Eryn Bailey as she undergoes
surgery and recuperates.
