Welcome

To get the best out of your course, it helps to ensure you have the resources you will require. We strongly recommend that you purchase the following:

• Pen, Coloured Pens, Pencil, Ruler, Eraser, Highlighter & Sharpener

• Pad of A4 Lined Paper

• Lever-Arched File

• Laptop or Other Internet Enabled Device (this is not essential however it is recommended)

You will also be required to purchase uniform and equipment specific to your course. Please visit www.kendal.ac.uk/welcome for information on this.

Alongside your day-to-day study, there are many other enriching activities in which you can take part, including visits to Hair & Beauty shows (which normally cost between £20 to £30 per visit) and a UK residential which will include professional salon visits and culturally as well as socially developing opportunities. This trip will normally cost between £200 to £300 and is optional.

For those who progress onto a second year, a European residential will be offered. This trip will normally cost between £250 to £400 and is optional.

The department has excellent contacts within the industry and there will be a number of high-profile guest speakers, which will allow you to understand the industry in much more detail.

Before starting with us we would recommend you visit as many salons as you can and start to develop an awareness for which stand out and understanding why.

If you are unsure of anything, the above will be further explained at Enrolment Day and during your Induction Week.

� You will be assessed using practical observation of your skills and oral questioning of your underpinning knowledge. Assessment will also be through the completion of written assignments, written tests and the production of a portfolio of evidence.

� All of our learners will be given support with their English and Math's skills where relevant to their main course.

� Those students who have not yet achieved a Grade 4 (or C) at GCSE in these subjects will continue to work towards these important qualifications at a level suited to them.

� However, students will still have to achieve the stated Entry Requirements before they start the course.

Work Placement

� As part of your study programme you are required to complete a work placement.

� Mandatory 35 hours across the academic year for each learner

� Option of completing an extended work placement of 75 hours

� We would advise you to begin looking for a work placement sooner rather than later.
