CHSAA Mercy Rule

45 – point difference in 2nd half All games (V/JV/Fresh) Clock stops on:

Football Field MarkingsRules 1-2-3d, 1-2-3k

Rule 1-2-3d NEW:

A 4-inch-wide broken

restraining line shall be placed around the outside of the field, at least 2 yards from the sidelines and end lines.

Rule 1-2-3k NEW:

A line, 4 inches wide and a minimum of 24 inches in length, shall be centered in the field of play, three yards from each goal line.

Unfair ActsRule 9-9-3

ART. 3 …No player shall hide the ball under a jersey.

PENALTY: …Hiding the ball under a jersey, (Art. 3)(S27) – 15 yards previous spot.

Clarifications

Noncontact unsportsmanlike conduct by players 9-5

ART. 1d…No player shall use disconcerting acts or words prior to the snap in an attempt to interfere with A’s signals or movement.

PENALTY: …Unsportsmanlike conduct – 15 yards

Recommended Technique

When defensive player makes questionable movements: If no false start – warning If false start – encroachment penalty (if

possible)

Noncontact unsportsmanlike conduct by nonplayers 9-8

ART. 1e…Using of illegal communication equipment as outlined in 1-5-3b and 1-6. 1-5-3b-3….. (illegal) computers

and/or any other electronic devices that produce reports for the purpose of compiling stats, tendencies that are to be used prior to the conclusion of the game.

1-6….Electronic communication equipment, other than an audio tape recorder, including but not limited to computer, film, TV and videotape or any type of still or moving pictures shall NOT be used for coaching purposes during the game or between periods.

Plays of the Week

K scores TD on kickoff during the kick Two backs miss snap count Slipped snap called fumble FGA on other than 4th down

K scores TD on kickoff

K’s free kick rolls untouched to the R-1 yd line, K-76 picks up the ball and dives into R’s EZ

Rule: 6-1-5 “If any K player recovers or catches a free

kick, the ball becomes dead.”

A57’s snap slips, never touches a player in the backfield, is accidental kicked by a

lineman

Rule: 2-40-2

“…..leaves the hand(s) of the snapper and touches a back or the ground before it touches an A linemen…..”

Rule: 7-1-7a – False Start

“A shift simulates action at the snap….”

FGA on other than 4th down

On 1st and 10 at R-35, K-7’s FGA is blocked, K-78 recovers behind the NZ.

Rule: 6-2-3

“Any K player may catch or recover a scrimmage kick while it is in or behind the NZ and advance, unless it is during a try”
