Weaselhead HistoryThe Weaselhead / Glenmore Park

Preservation Society was officially formed in 1994.

The Weaselhead Society is a non-profit society that serves to preserve the area

and to protect the integrity of south Calgary's water supply.

Weaselhead WaterOne in five Albertans get their drinking

water from the Weaselhead Area!

A threat to the Weaselhead Natural Environment Area

The SW Calgary Ring Road is planned to run

along the west boundary of the Weaselhead. It will

negatively effect south Calgary's drinking water quality, the plants and

animals in the Weaselhead and the park

user experience.

Weaselhead Plants and AnimalsWith five habitats there are over 1000

different species of plants and animals in the Weaselhead Park.

Pre-trip Preparation

• Set up a journal for the day! Include your worksheets

and an extra sheet for plant and animal

observations.• Be sure you have

something to write on and write with.

What to bring?

• Appropriate running shoes and layered clothing for cold, wet and/or hot weather

• Water bottle• Snack• Lunch for full day trips• If you don’t want to sit on the

ground, bring something dry to sit on

• Journal (worksheets)• Something to write with and

write onTHE ENTIRE FIELD TRIP IS

OUTSIDE! COME PREPARED!

Behaviour Expectations1. Remain in the assigned group and keep in sight of

supervisors at all times.

2. There is always an adult leader in the lead and at the end of the group.

3. NEVER remove natural items from the area. Vegetation, insects, mammal, bird, reptile and amphibian life is to be respected and left in the natural habitat.

4. Leave no trace of our visit. All litter must be brought out by you.

Behaviour Expectations5. Unsafe behaviour such as tripping, wrestling, and

teasing is unacceptable and may result in withdrawal from the activity.

6. Cooperation by listening, participating in group discussions, observing and recording is expected during the learning experience.

7. Each adult is expected to participate in the activities and provide due safety and care for each of the students.

8. Pets are not permitted on the field trip.

Terms to KnowBio = Living

Diversity = Variety of different things

•Biodiversity: The variety or abundance of different living

things.

•Ecological Footprint: Human impact. A larger footprint equals a greater negative impact on the

environment.

Goal = Reduce your Ecological Footprint
