VOCAL AUDITIONS, FALL 2020
HOW DO I AUDITION FOR WCCA VOCAL? • Record an audition video for review by our audition team.
• You must email the link to your YouTube video to: jeff.marontate@publicboard.ca ON OR BEFORE FRIDAY, DECEMBER 14th, with the subject line WCCA VOCAL AUDITION for __________________
(name of applicant).
WHAT DO I RECORD ON MY AUDITION VIDEO?
• Prepare a vocal solo (classical, folk song, music theatre, jazz, or a pop song)
o Perform the song with accompaniment (live music or a good-quality background/karaoke
track with no other vocals).
o Choose a piece you feel confident singing and that shows your strengths as a vocalist. See
evaluation rubric below.
• Prepare to sing a scale a cappella on solfege (do, re, mi, fa, so, la, ti, do).
o If you haven’t sung this scale before, use this video to learn the scale:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OkW4v_MJEUg.
o If you don’t feel able to perform the scale, you may leave it out of your audition video.
• Prepare to briefly explain why you hope to be part of the WCCA Vocal Program.
• When you’re ready, record a video of yourself singing your vocal solo, solfege scale, and briefly
explaining why you hope to be part of the WCCA Vocal Program.
o You don’t need to use any special recording equipment; your phone will work great.
• Upload your video to YouTube. You may need to create an account if you do not have one already.
o Be sure to publish your video as “unlisted” (see screenshot below). Copy the link to your
video and email it by December 14, 2020 to jeff.marontate@publicboard.ca as instructed
above.
