“I think the streets will prepare me for future battlefields.”

I am an American ex-patriot that moved to the U.K. with my brother Gavin Bragdon 3 years ago. I picked up a cameraa year and a half ago and started taking photography seriously. Unfortunately my photographic conquest started withcolour and vomit HDR photography. My eyes were opened when my brother introduced me to the BBC stunning series(genius photography), after that we were hooked. We started hitting the streets with our eyes and cameras, cross haired at pedestrians. Now I am studying photography in the hopes of becoming a photojournalist.

We don’t have the streets and subways of Manhattan or the sunshine of Greece. Edinburgh is more like a big town than a big city. The skies are grey, the sun rarely shines, and just generally gloomy year round. This is why I utilise the flashgun; it is like carrying the sun in my left hand.

I enjoy getting close and personal with my subjects similar to Bruce Gilden. As far as ethics go, I know jumping out at people may not sound like the polite thing to do but I think the results justify my actions. People who open their morning paper and gander at overweight celebrities and starving children, and believe it should be illegal for photographers to take pictures of them on the street without their permission should lock themselves in a basement and throwaway the key.

I am far from fearless but I do avoid taking pictures of physically or mentally handicapped people and anything thatcan be demoralizing. I feel I have much to learn and experience, yet I feel my style will change overtime for the better.

can put it into words, sometimes you can’t.”

What do you think makes a good or interesting pictu

re?

Hmmmm … that’s hard to define. It’s more about what you feel

when you look at a photo,

that emotional wordlessness. The punctum. It could

be compositional Webb-esque acrobatics

or just something really simple and straightforward or

something really vague.

How important is it to you to make prints of your im

ages?

Well I guess I’m a digi-baby and thus have dealt with

photography on mostly an on-screen basis.

I’m trying to get into prints a bit more especially for e

diting and sequencing purposes

and the like. It’s about getting into the print as the “f

inal word” and bring the photo

from a virtual image into something more tangible.

“My brother Gareth influenced my picture making either.

We’re brothers doing the same sort of thing in the same place,

even in the same photography course at school, so naturally we’re

going to be bouncing off of each other. He got me into photography,

I got him into street photography. I got him into using flash

(on-camera), he got me into using the flash gun.

It’s almost symbiotic and I think this sort of collaboration,

directly or indirectly, will continue on into the future.”

MADE in C.L. is an artist duo: Salvatore Cammilleri and Michele Lombardo from Italy.

In the name there is a joke of worlds using own surnames’ capital letters even

referring to their Sicilian area called Caltanissetta C.L.

The most important objective is to involve different contemporary artists to grow up

art in the area, to promote creativity resources. The involve many people,

someone for technical competences and others only to participate in performance art.

From this concept born the first project: RAW.
