BiotechnologyVictoria Park offers students aBiotechnology programme thatgives them the opportunity toinvestigate biotechnologydevelopments, theories and careerapplications with an emphasis onlaboratory work. Students use an interdisciplinary approach to understanding howthe biotechnology industry operates and how companies researchand develop a product from concept to market.  Students developessential skills required in the workplace and are prepared tocontribute to industry from pharmaceuticals to agriculture.

Co-operative EducationThe Co-operative Education and school-to-work programmes linkthe school and our students to industrial, medical, commercial andbusiness communities.  This also includes our OYAP (Ontario YouthApprenticeship Programme) in which students acquire bothapprenticeship hours and high school credits. Students may alsoearn college credits through School Within A College.

Computer TechnologyComputer technology programs, mobile labs and SmartBoards areused in a wide range of subjects. Ipads are often used to improveliteracy in Grade 9 Applied English classes. The computer program"Read and Write Gold" is used to support students' reading andwriting. Wi Fi is available throughout the school building, andstudents are encouraged to bring their own devices.

Special EducationA variety of special education programmes and services are offeredto meet the needs of all students, including students withexceptionalities, such as behavioural and communicationdisabilities. Students are placed in self-contained or in integratedclasses. We also offer a strong Co-Operative Education programmeto students with exceptionalities.

LiteracyThere are several new and continuing programs to support literacyat Victoria Park including Literacy Leaders, daily sustained silentreading, White Pine Book Club, new high interest books, newcomputers, and writing workshops with guest authors. We offer anEnglish Literacy skills course during the school day to help studentsstrengthen their literacy skills.

Student Life - Where You Belong

Our school offers an enriching environment for students. Wehave over 60 clubs and many sports teams. We have anextensive Peer Tutoring program. We participate in theSears Drama Festival, Improv Festivals and the TDSB "Dareto Create" Art Festival. Student-choreographed dancepieces were presented at the Toronto Performing ArtsCentre in 2014 -2016. Music students produce concertsseasonally. We are a Gold Eco-school. Our co-curricularactivities enable students to develop leadership skills andparticipate in the arts, athletics and student government. Our students have excelled in provincial and nationalcompetitions, winning awards in Drama (Sears Festival),Science (McMaster U. Science Olympics, Ecochallenge),Math (Pascal, Cayley, & Fermat), Music & Business(DECA & FBLA) competitions. Our FIRST Robotics team4914 competed in the 2014 Championships in St Louis, MO;a berth to the Finals was earned by winning All Star Rookieat the GTA Central Regional, and being in the WinningAlliance at the North Bay Regional. In 2015, team 4914 wonthe Team Spirit Award at the GTR Central , and in 2016 theGracious Professionalism Award at the Great LakesRegional in Windsor.

Victoria Park C.I. is a school with a rich history and a strongsense of purpose and community.  Our graduates haveexcelled in a variety of disciplines including the Arts,Engineering, Business, Sports, and the Humanities, andhave gone on to be strong members of their communities.We provide a safe and nurturing learning environment thatemphasizes academic excellence, but also focuses on thewhole student. Students have the opportunity to exploretheir learning styles, develop their leadership skills, andparticipate in sports, arts and interest/servicegroups. Students are involved in whole school projects suchas the annual "Workshop Day" and Global YouthConference. We are a pilot school for Aboriginal Education.We are a STEM school and a Robotics Hub for the TDSB.Students organize an annual community-building trip toCamp Tamakwa in Algonquin Park for Grade 9 students. Ourstudents receive regular monitoring and mentorship fromsenior students and staff. We have an exceptionalgraduation rate and many of our graduates have beenaccepted into Ivy League universities.

Parent and Community Engagement

We have an active School Council with regular meetings.  OurSchool Council has sponsored workshops on various topics ofinterest to parents, including anti-bullying,  "Communicating withyour Teens", "Facebook for Parents", "Dealing with Teen/ParentConflict" and "Teen Mental Health: Anxiety".  Our community linksinclude: Centennial College, CITI MOTIVE POWER, Change YourFuture, OYAP (Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program) withplacements leading to careers as carpenter and electrician,partnerships with police and student Crimestoppers, Unity, SAL(Supervised Alternative Learning) and Co-op.  Our students alsoparticipate in Girls about Girls.
