VENTIL TEST UNITS
FOR BUTTERFLY VALVES
Ventil manufactures a wide variety of test units for pressure- and performance testing of butterfly
valves in the range 1 – 86”.
A) RANGE
Although it is possible to manufacture a test unit for a
extended range of diameters, the majority of the
customers prefers to have a certain limited range. This
generally corresponds with a certain production line and
enables us to accommodate the range of butterfly valves
with top flanges, gear boxes or actuators. By limiting the
range, the test units can be designed and equipped for its
specific purpose and the valves are quickly and easily
positioned, clamped and tested without placing any
adapters or resetting of the clamping system. The common
working ranges are:
• 1 – 8”
• 8 – 16”
• 16 – 28”
• 28 - 48”
• 48 - 86”

B) APPLICATION
The installed test system can be adapted to maximum pressure class. We therefore ask you to state
the required pressure classes:

C) POSITION
For easy and accurate positioning, clamping and testing these test units features a vertical clamping
system (valve spindle horizontal). Smaller valves up to 8” can be positioned by hand. Bigger valves
need to be positioned by crane and commonly the test unit is than completed with a transport table
(see pic 2) to place the valve externally and slide it into the clamping system.
Alternatively the units can be completed with eccentric clamping (see pic 3). In this case the top flange
is always positioned outside and no spacer adapters are required for the top flange, actuator or
gearbox.
A second possibility is to have a double clamping table. This enables the operator to already place to
second valve, while the first is being tested.

OPTIONAL PARTS AND SYSTEMS;

1) SEMI AUTOMATIC OR FULL AUTOMATIC
The Ventil test unit can be completed with 3 different operation systems;
• Fully manual
Simple, but effective hand operation. The operator controls the test procedure and decides if the
valves is ‘pass‘ or ‘fail’.
• Touch screen
The operator selects the valve and the pre-programmed procedure from the menu starts the test.
The system automatically fills the valve and executes the test procedure. The system gives a pass
/ fail signal.
• Computer Registration
The operator selects the valve from the valve management system and starts the test. The system
automatically fills the valve and executes one test or a total test sequence. The system gives a
pass / fail signal. The total test sequence can be programmed for each valve by yourselves.

2) VISUAL INSPECTION
Optionally the clamping system features an
inspection facility for visually detecting seat
leakage by looking on the seat on the outlet side.

3) VALVE OPERATION (AVPS)
Optionally each test unit can be completed with a valve
operation and torque (AVPS) system. This hydraulic and
computer operated system opens and closes the valve in
between the body and seat test and can measure the force
for opening and closing. The available range is 0 – 50,000
Nm.
