Vanderbilt-Pakistan Lesson 2

September 2013

Memories• If you had Vanderbilt/Pakistan classes

last year, what was your favorite moment? • If you did or didn’t have Skype classes

last year, what is one memory that always makes you happy when you think of it?

nos·tal·giaa wistful desire to return in thought or in fact to a former time in one's life

“It is strange how we hold on to the pieces of the past while we wait for our futures.” –Ally Condie

“You can go other places, all right - you can live on the other side of the world, but you can't ever leave home” –Sue Monk Kidd“I don’t have a photograph,

but you can have my footprints. They’re upstairs in my socks.” –Groucho Marx

“how sad and bad and mad it was - but then, how it was sweet” –Robert Browning

How much should we focus on the past, versus the present and the future?

What is one memory you hope to have in the future when you are looking back on your life?

In this age of technology where we record everything we do (Facebook, video recording), should we be creating all of this information? What is the point of recording everything? Is there too much information?

Homework for next time:

Is your glass half empty or half full? (metaphor)

Draw a picture of a glass container (it can be any shape) and fill it with pictures of things that make your life good.
