VACUUM DRYING APPLICATIONQUAKERCLEAN® 680 VDA
THE SOLUTION
Quaker process engineers and chemists partnered with the customer’s engineers to fully understand the deficiencies of the previous product and designed a product specifically for their vacuum drying application, QUAKERCLEAN® 680 VDA. The customer had the following product requirements: » Low foaming in heated, high spray applications
» Must leave an undetectable residue
» Must completely wet the part
» Must provide corrosion protection for indoor storage
After QUAKERCLEAN® 680 VDA was introduced into their system, the customer was able to realize the following results: » Clean engine blocks with an imperceptible residue
» Excellent corrosion protection performance
» Exceptional wetting characteristics on the part
» QUAKERCLEAN® 680 VDA met the customer’s requirements, was trialed for 6 months and then approved for plant wide use by all departments
Part Diesel engine block
Material Compacted Graphite Iron (CGI)
Operation Two stage washer with vaccum dryer
Equipment manufacturer Durr Washer
Temperature 102°F - 140°F
Pressure 45 - 60 psi
Product concentration 3 - 5%
Water quality Public water 120 - 140 ppm hardness, low chlorides (less than 5)
PROCESS AND EQUIPMENT
CHALLENGESA global diesel engine block manufacturer was experiencing issues with residue on the transfer rollers that the engine blocks travel on. The accumulated residue and dirt on the transfer rollers eventually deposited on the engine block, requiring operators to hand clean the engine blocks prior to assembly. This additional cleaning step added increased labor costs and production time. The customer was specifically looking to: » Utilize a faster drying cleaner
» Eliminate problems with blocks rusting in storage

VACUUM DRYING APPLICATIONQUAKERCLEAN® 680 VDA
THE PRODUCT QUAKERCLEAN® 680 VDA is formulated to dry rapidly and is excellent for any application that requires minimal residue after the final wash process. The product cleans light to moderate soil loads and protects ferrous surfaces while drying uniformly leaving an imperceptible thin film of corrosion protection that can provide up to 60 days protection on metal surfaces when handled properly in controlled applications. QUAKERCLEAN® 680 VDA’s unique chemical engineering resists foaming even at high pressures and has good oil splitting characteristics to extend bath life, reduce consumption and improve overall operating costs.
THE EXPERTISE
Metalworking lubricants represent a very minor part of the costs in a metalworking process, typically less than 1%. This case illustrates the importance of correct fluid selection. The impact of the fluid can be a multiple of its costs, making the price of a metalworking fluid insignificant. That is why Quaker focuses on developing fluids with the highest performance without compromise, fluids that sharpen your competitive edge.
