What is Eclipse?
ECLIPSE stands for: Electronic Checking Leading to Improved Prescribing Safety & Efficiency. It is utilised in 4000 surgeries in England and we have subscribed to the advanced “LIVE” version to allow true Risk Stratification, Safety Alerts, Centralised Project Management, Integrated Care and Automated Patient Care Plans.
The aim is to make your life easier whilst enhancing the safety of our patients.
The system is an online interface found at www.eclipsesolutions.org
You should have received your username and password. If not click on the “Unable to log in?” link.

Security in Eclipse
Eclipse utilises the latest safety systems to ensure your data is secure. In addition to being hosted on a secure ISO27001 server in a nuclear bunker in Kent, 2 factor authentication is required to log in. This simply involves sending an SMS to your mobile or emailing yourself with an access code.
Your unique access code will last for 5 minutes to allow you access to your homepage.

Information About Eclipse
From here you can access different parts of your website, informing you about many of the performance parameters on which you are being monitored.
Click on the Eclipse Live button to access your Risk Stratification Tool.

Eclipse Live Menu
Your alerts are updated once a week.
The Risk Stratification can be set up centrally or you can add your own ones as needed.
Simply click on the button to view the patients at risk.
Click on the “4 patients” button at the top of the amber alerts to proceed to the next page.

At-Risk Patients Identified
Here I have clicked on the top amber alert “on NSAIDs with anaemia” and the system has identified my four at-risk patients.
It tells me the drug they are on, how long it was since they last ordered it, their surgery reference number, age, graph of the anaemia trend and then a number of statistics regarding the patient.
Click on the top Patient icon to view the Patient in more details (Your pop-up blocker might need to be switched off to enable this function)

Detailed Patient View
This view allows you to view in detail graphs, medication history, conditions and alerts of the patient concerned.
It also allows true integrated care because the record can be easily transferred to a specialist for remote evaluation.
Community services or the patient themselves can be given access to this summary record if needed.

Formally Reviewing Your Patient
Clicking in the “review box” brings up the review form. This is designed to be filled in in seconds. The action will feed back to the system that the alert has been addressed.
If the patient is unsuitable to have alerts (eg severe dementia, palliative care) then tick the exclude box to ensure they will not be inconvenienced by further safety audits. If the audit concerns these types of patients, there is an option to run an alert on excluded patients.

Running Your Own Audit
Click on the “Run Adhoc Search Button” seen on the bottom of page 7.
You are presented with a grid within which you can enter parameters, results, drugs, read codes and patient demographics to search on.
You can undertake any clinical audit on your surgery in seconds, save it and the system will run it for you on a weekly basis.
If you need any help setting up your audit, do contact us by clicking on the “contact us” link at the top and entering your problem to be addressed.

What We Have Achieved
Eclipse Live combines all available datasets to generate its safety reports.
Reports are automatically generated, allowing:
Commissioners to achieve:
• Improved safety of prescribing.
• Cost savings.
• Better formulary compliance.
• Improved outcomes in Clinical Commissioning.
GPs empowered to identify:
• At-risk patients.
• Patients not fulfilling local guidelines.
• Performance tracking.
• Formularies, guidelines and contacts.
*Weekly extracts were taken overnight from the GP systems via automated Apollo extracts.RADAR is a collection of algorithms generated, utilising MHRA, NICE, BNF and national guidelines combined to identify at-risk patients.

Thanks to this project, lives are already being saved, with more than a million patients already being protected by secondary automated screening and risk alerts.
Integrated Care Specialists are now able to track all their patients within the community, GPs are able to discuss cases directly with specialists and community staff are now fully informed.
Patients have access to their health summary, can generate self-management plans and interact with their healthcare team.
Eclipse Solutions are looking forward to working in partnership with the NHS and the Department of Health to help transform Patient Care within the United Kingdom.
