I am glad to note that the Human Resource Development Centre of Acharya Nagarjuna University is bringingout Placement Brochure of University College of Arts, Commerce and Law for the Academic Year 2015-16. TheUniversity has been upholding the best tradition of establishing rapport with the industry. It is in this context,a brochure is printed every year with the profiles of students passing out. Message from the PrincipalI am pleased to share my jubilance with you on the launch of Placement Brochure.Acharya Nagarjuna University is a fast developing University with an ambiencecomparable to the best in class for learning and research and will offer life that isvibrant and elevating to students and faculty alike.

The major challenge before the University is to address the World's increasinggap in the availability of suitable qualified and employable students, and also themuch needed entrepreneurial talent. ANU has taken initiatives to reduce this gapby creating facilities for training in additional employability skills supported by achoice of 10 verities of foreign languages as ‘Add on’ courses and design anddevelopment of ‘ANU MOOCs’ for the benefit of student community at large.

I Wish the students be taught not only to be creative and innovative, but also todevelop into a community of creative human beings, which is the hallmark ofIndia's most valuable human capital. OUR UNIVERSITY EMBLEMWhat it signifies

The crest and the motto adopted by the Acharya Nagarjuna University represent the creative essence ofIndian culture oriented to the contemporary aspirations. The symbolism is based on the concept that all humanexcellence proceeds from truth and culminates in truth. The individual symbols in the crest are emblematicallyrelated to one another so as to suggest the upward evolution of the force from material plenitude and manifestreality towards spiritual magnificence and universal consciousness. The young initiated into knowledge at theUniversity shall achieve identity, growth, self-differentiation and fulfillment in the various ascensions of intellectualand spiritual states shown in the symbolic scheme of the crest.

The vase of plenty (PURNA-GHATA) is a prototype from the Amaravati sculpture of the early centuries of theChristian era. It stands for material prosperity on the one hand and objective knowledge on the other. Itstraditional attributes are sasya (fertility), Santana (increase), sampat (prosperity) and samriddhi (plentitude).The vase is also a paradigmatic representation of the Universe and the creative cycle according to ancient Indianscriptures. Its face is Vishnu, the sustainer; its neck is Rudra, the apocalyptic transformer; its base is Brahma, thecreator.

Arising out of the superabundant water of life sprouting from purna ghata and transcending the mundanelevel, illuminated by the resplendent halo of the Sun, is the freshly blossoming Lotus. The pool of waters (manasasarovara) symbolizes the creative. On the apex are the dharma-chakra and the Lotus representing the creativereadiness of the mind to respond to the summons of the creative evolution symbolized by the solar orb.

On the apex are the dharma-chakra (the wheel of eternal law) flanked by harinas (deer), overarched by thevisva-padma (the cosmic Lotus) flanked by makaras (symbols of the cosmic consciousness). The dharma chakrais reminiscent not only of rita but also of the Buddha’s promulgation of the law (dharma chakrapravartana). Thedeers, too have a two-fold connotation. On the one hand, they represent beatitude, and on the other, the highestpoint of universal consciousness.

The motto, ‘Satye Sarvam Pratishtitam’ is an epigrammatic representation of the entire symbolism of thecrest. Its is singularly appropriate to the ideals and functions of the University which is dedicated to the pursuitof truth which is the ultimate abode of all.

Acharya Nagarjuna University, a state university, established in 1976 has been constantly striving towardsachieving progress and expansion during its existence for over three decades, in terms of introducing newcourses in constituent University Colleges, affiliated UG and PG colleges and professional colleges. Spreadover about 300 acres of land on the National High Way(NH-5) between Vijayawada and Guntur of AndhraPradesh, the University is one of the fastest expanding Universities in the state of Andhra Pradesh.

Admission of students into all PG courses is made on the basis of the Rank obtained by them in theEntrance Test conducted by the Directorate of Admissions. After receiving the applications, the Hall Tickets willbe downloaded from the website with the details of Date, Time and centre of entrance test.

Entrance test is conducted for 100 Marks and test paper contains 100 Multiple Choice Questions set fromprescribed syllabus. The candidates have to mark their answers in OMR sheet provided to theme along with testbooklet.

The schedule of the Counseling for admissions is usually informed after declaring the Rank of the candidate.The admission process based on the rank is carried out by a computerized system programmed for ‘OptionExercise’ by candidate and ‘Sliding’ in the event of subsequent vacancy. The admission process is totallytransparent and vivid with filled-in seats and vacant slots information in the counseling centre. The admissionletters are issued to the selected candidates after collecting prescribed fee and directed to report to the principalsof concerned colleges.

The rule of reservation for SC, ST and BC is adhered strictly as per State Government order. The reservationin respect of NCC, Sports, Differently abled persons and Children of Armed forces Personnel is also followed.Fee reimbursement facility is made available to the eligible admitted students as per the norms of the StateGovernment.

The process of admission usually begins in the month of February and completes by the 3rd Week toenable the students to attend the classes from June last week onwards every year.

The Directorate of Admissions takes care of collection of Tuition fee and other fees on behalf of all collegesinto which admissions made and maintains accounts to release the money to the colleges after the closure of theadmissions.

The Directorate also makes similar arrangements and adopts the above procedure for the admission intoM.Ed. (Part-Time), M.Tech (Evening Courses), M.Phil and Ph.D. programs.

The Director works in harmony with University administration and Vice-Chancellor.

The Centre for Mahayana Buddhist studies (CMBS) was established in 1982 under the scholarly guidanceof late Padma Vibhushan Prof. K. Satchidananda Murthy and the inspiration of the noted Archaeologist late Prof.R. Subrahmanyam, who extensively excavated the Nagarjunakonda Site in 1960, and the then External AffairsMinister Dr.P.V.Narasimha Rao. His Majesty the king of Bhutan, Jigme Singye Wangchuk inaugurated the Chairof Mahayana Buddhism and created also an Endowment Fund. The University Grants Commission gave aliberal grant for the academic staff and for the construction of a Caitya type building for housing the Centre.

The Centre has organized an International Seminar on “The concept of peace in Buddhism” in 1993and a National Seminar on “The Contribution of Andhakas Sects to the Growth and Development ofBuddhism” in 2011, conducted a two day National Seminor on “Social Dimensions of Buddhism” on16-17 September 2011. Very recently the centre organized UGC National Seminar on “Buddhist AppliedPhilosophy” in 2014 and conducted 7 series of Lectures Programme with eminent scholars, 7 from IIT facultyand Hyderabad Central University attended. Center is focused to upgrade the recent progess Many Indian andforeign Buddhist scholars participated and presented research papers on the various aspects of Buddhism.The research programmes both M.Phil and Ph.D in Buddhist Studies was started by the Centre in 1984. Theteaching programme was started in 1993 with M.A. in Philosophy with emphasis on Buddhism, which has beenrestructured as Master’s Degree in Mahayana Bhuddhist Studies. The relevance and impact of Buddhism oncontemporary society especially Buddhist Economics, Buddhist Applied Ethics, Buddhist meditation and Buddhisttourist circuits have been introduced in the syllabus. Both Indian and foreign students especially from Bhutan,Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam and China are enrolled in both the research and teaching programmes.

GENESIS OF THE MBA & M.Com. COURSE:The Department of Commerce and Business Administration was started in the

year 1967 as a part of Andhra University Post Graduate Centre with 40 Students inM.Com Course in response to the demand of the public and taking into account theeducational needs of the region. The department has started a two year MBA programin the year 1978-79. The course structure and syllabi of the management programwere designed taking in to consideration the academic strengths of the premierinstitutions that took lead in initiating MBA program in the country. The GovernmentAgencies and certain prestigious semi government bodies and public and privatesector organizations at the all India level have recruited about 2600 management

graduates from this department.

MISSION AND OBJECTIVES:

The Department of Economics is one of the biggest and oldest Departments in the University established in the year 1976 with one Professor and threelecturers. Over a period of time, due to retirements of the Faculty, at present there are only one Professor and one Assistant Professor along with 9 Post Doctoral Fellowssponsored by the UGC and the ICSSR.

The Department Offers M.A. Economics Course besides M.Phil. and Ph.D. Degrees in Economics.

The Department in producing 45 Postgraduate Economics students every year. Further, on an average 6 Ph.D.s are being awarded in the Department. Sofar, more than 120 M.Phil. and 64 Ph.D. Degrees are awarded in the Department.

The main thrust areas of research in the Department include Agricultural Economics, Rural development,Labour economics, Public finance, Industrialeconomics, Environmental economics, Demography, Development economics and econometrics.

Former Prime Minister of India, Sri Manmohan Singh, Noble Laureate Sri John Hicks and Dr. Ursula Hicks visited the Department.

The Students and the Scholars produced by the Department are at present working in high esteemed institutes like World Bank, RBI, Income Tax Department,Indian Railways etc., besides Central and State Government Institutes.

Moreover, the Department has a credible record of the individual research projects. About 17 minor research projects founded by the UGC were successfullycompleted.

The Department has been a pioneer in the Organization of the Conferences, National Seminars, Oriental Programmes for Refresher Courses and ResearchMethodology Courses. The Department has successfully conducted the Andhra Pradesh Economic Conference three times.

The Department has also actively imparting remedial coaching for the students belonging to the weaker sections besides UGC NET coaching.

The Computer Lab is also established in the Department to impart Computer Training to the Students.

The Faculty Members of the Department contributes and presents research papers in the National and International Conferences held at USA, China,Australia, etc., besides publishing the articles in the nationally and internationally referred journals.

The Faculty Members of the Department also served on various academic bodies like NAAC, UGC, ICSSR, Board of Studies Members of other Universities/ Colleges, Academic Senate Members of other Universities, Editorial Board members etc.

The Faculty Members of the Department also actively engaged in the University administration in various highest administrative positions.

Some of the Faculty Members of the Department are the recipients of the prestigious awards like Best Teacher Award, Life Time Achievement Award, etc.

The Faculty Members of the Department are the life time members of various national bodies like Indian Economic Association, Indian Society of LabourEconomics, Indian Society of Agricultural Economics, etc.

The Department has actively participated in extension and social activites like Janmabhoomi Programme, Swatcha Bharat, Community DevelopmentProgramme, etc.

The Department ranked first by the Government of Andhra Pradesh in conducting the Janmabhoomi Programme (Micro level Planning) in 2000.

Thus, the Department has no hesitation what so ever to place on record that it is one of the most energetic, enthusiastic and academic departments in theState as well as in the country.

The Department of English is one of the nine departments that constituted the Andhra University Post Graduate Centre thatwas started in 1967. Even at the time of starting, the department, instead of merely duplicating the subjects at AndhraUniversity, Waltair, offered by way of innovation and experimentation a new specialisation, i.e., Commonwealth Literature,the first English Department in an Indian University to have made the bold venture. When the Post-Graduate Centre wasupgraded as Nagarjuna University in 1976, the Department had successfully diversified the courses and added new andinnovative specialisations, offering as many as ten courses covering the entire gamut of Literature available in English andEnglish translation, be it from America, Russia, Europe, Africa, Asia, New Zealand, West Indies, Canada, Australia, withoutat the same time losing its basic character of British literature. The Department also strengthened the language stream byoffering papers on Phonetics, Linguistics, Syntax and English Language Teaching. A modest language Laboratory has beenestablished to give training in speaking and writing skills to the students. UGC Golbal seminar on Celebrating the Ancient/contemporary wisdom of the fourth world (Natives / Aboriginals/Dalits) was organised by the Department of English during14-16 December 2015.

The Department of Hindi in Acharya Nagarjuna University with the fore-thought of the academicpersonalities Prof. Y.R. Haragopal Reddy, Vice-Chancellor, Acharya Nagarjuna University, Prof. Bala Mohandas,Former Vice-Chancellor, Acharya Nagarjuna University, Prof. Lakshmi Prasad, Chairman Hindi Academy,Hyderabad, was established in June 2006.

A BRIEF HSTORY:After taking charge as Vice-Chancellor Prof. V. Balamohandas to his surprise found that there is no

department of Hindi in A.N.U though it is the major national and official language and a long period of nearlythirty years passed by. At the first time, the Post Graduate course in Hindi has come into existence prior to thisduring the academic year 2005-2006. The Post Graduate Diploma in Hindi course was started in Hindu College,Guntur on 14th February 2006. With a strength of 10 students.

A Separate Hindi Bhavan was constructed with about Rs. 1 Crore 20 Lakhs in which the Universityholds the Lion’s share of Rs. 65 Lakhs and the Governments of Rajastan, Madhya Pradesh each of Rs. 10Lakhs and the Govt, of Chattisgarh Rs. 5 Lakhs and from Philanthropists 30 lakhs.

The Department proved its enthusiasm in promoting activities for development of Hindi Our NationalLanguage by the way of organige a two day National Seminar on 20 & 21 September 2007. An NationalSeminar on Hindi Prachar ka Vikas, sponsored by Andhra Pradesh Hindi Academy and Acharya NagarjunaUniversity was conducted for Hindi Teachers by the department and A.P. Hindi Academy & Department ofHindi, Acharya Nagarjuna University jointly organized a two day National Seminar on “ A message of CommunalHarmony and National Unity in Hindi & Telugu Modern Literature” during 26 & 27 March 2013.

At present Prof. S.V. Raju, Principal, University College of Arts, Commerce & Law is the Co-ordinator ofthe Department and with two highly qualified Assistant Professors and one Guest faculty the departmentsuccessfully completed nine years

The Department of History and Archaeology was initially started in 1971 as the department of Ancient History and

Archaeology in Andhra University P.G. Center campus. As this course pattern required field orientation, compulsory field

work on different aspects is also incorporated in the course component.

In course of time in 1985 M.A History component was started and from then onwards the name of the Department

was changed as History & Archaeology.Since then the department began offering two postgraduate courses i.e.

History and Ancient History & Archaeology. The department also offers M.Phil. and Ph.D. courses in both branches

under Full time/Part time/ FIP/ Extra - mural. History Students are trained in all related Subjects like national, regional

and World histories while Archaeology Students are trained in Pre-history, Art and Architecture and Epigraphy. The

Dept has produced 50 Ph.Ds and 80 M.Phils, comprising work on different specializations.The department has

introduced the Tourism component in its course structure to both the courses to make it more viable to suit the job-

oriented studies.

The Department of International Business Studies came into existence on December 5, 2007. Prof. K.C. Reddy,Chairman, APSCHE, Hyderabad, conceived the idea of 5 year integrated courses and also sactioned one crore rupeesas the initial fund for the development of the Department. Prof. V. Balamohan Das, the then Vice-Chancellor, and Prof.Y.R. Haragopal Reddy former Vice-Chancellor who took keen interest in the department and provided the requiredinfrastructure facilities like accommodation, furnished A.C. Seminar hall, Computer Aided Class Rooms, Language Lab,Library Room for this Course.

The Department is currently offering 5 year Integrated MBA (IB) Programme, in Acharya Nagarjuna UniversityCampus with an intake of 50 Students under Self-Finance Course.

The teaching work is shared by the Co-ordinator Dr. R.S.R. Prasad, Dr. N. Prasanna Kumar. Guest faculty are alsodrawn from different departments and institutions.

The Department has also been arranging interactive sessions with experts from industry every week. It has alsoarranged short visits to the local industries.

The students of this department are drawn from all over India and are meritorious, dynamic and hard working. The2011-12 batch students participated in various State Level Competitions and won number of prizes in various competitions.Students have also actively participated in National Seminars and work shops, with the encouragement and support offaculty members in the department.

The year 2003 heralded the debut and inauguration of the Department in A.N.U campus. The departmenthas been taking up two-year master’s course and a research programme. The intake for the Masters courseis 30 and more than 30 candidates were admitted into the Ph.D. and M.Phil. programme. The department, oneof 179 such institutions spread across the length and width of the country, has been listed at item No. 110 onpage 220 of “Mass media in India-2003, a Government of India publication. It had completed 13 fruitful yearswith excellent performance in academics, research and extension activity. It caters to the needs the studentsof 3 districts of Andhra Pradesh and train them to have up the skills as Media and communication professionals.Journalism and mass communication caters to the trained, professional man power requirements of a serviceindustry vital to nation’s economic, cultural and social development. Since mass media has been expandingexponentially more and more opportunities have been coming in the way of students and professionals. Notonly expansion fast diversification of the mass media is also enlarging the scope of the fields such as Advertising,Public Relations, Newspapers, Television, and Radio etc.

For the last 13 years many of students had got regular placements in top media houses and some ofthem had entered into government services also. The university has access to Print media, Television, Radiohouses and Advertising agencies in both Guntur and Vijayawada. All the leading dailies and magazines haveoffices in these two cities. The academic programme consists of 4 semesters with a holistic approach to theJournalism and Mass communication. With the introduction of choice based credit system the marks areawarded in the form credits which is on the lines of international pattern. Semester scheme of instruction andevaluation give equal importance to theory as well practical components as it enhances the skills andprofessionalism among them.

THE COURSE

During the post-liberalization period India has achieved rapid strides in divergent fields includinghealth care. However, Hospital Administration as a discipline has not grown correspondingly, so as tomeet the growing requirments of the emerging corporate hospitals in India. The branch of ‘HospitalAdministration is now recognized to be a specialized one which has been gaining commendable demandfrom the concerned fields. Having rightly recognized the potential of the course, Achrya NagarjunaUniversity in collaboration with NTR University of Health Sciences, Vijayawada has started a P.G.Progamme M.B.A. (Hospital Administration) in 2007-08 which is being run effectively with attractiveplacements for the students.

objectives of the course

The major objectives of the course include-

· to develop highly qualified managers and administrators for the efficient management of hospitalsin India and abroad;

· to give necessary knowledge and skill with practical orientation which help in formulating strategiesfor more efficient management of super specialty hospitals;

· to cultivate creativity and to develop better systems for effective delivery of health care services;

· to impart knowledge, vocabulary and advanced skills to make administrators proficient;

· to provide theoretical background of those academic disciplines which are related to the field ofmanagement in general, and those of hospital management in particular;

· to develop Leadership Skills through understanding of organizational and community problems;and

· to create an urge for research in the field of hospital management, through involvement in actualoperation of hospital administration and in research methodology.

The establishment of the Education Department in 2007 in the campus was the fulfilment of the longcherished dream and desire of the teacher, teacher educators, research scholars and the academicia of ANUarea. The M.Ed regular course with an intake of 25 students commenced in the year 2007- 2008. The secondmilestone in the history of the department was the starting of M.Ed (Part - time) course in 2008 catering to inservice teachers of this region. The Department of education has to its credit the enrolment of Internationalstudents specially from Bhutan since 2008. The NCTE has enhanced the intake to 35 students in the year2010. The M.Ed. course was upgraged as a two year course from the academic year 2016 - 17 and 50 in 2015offered in the Distance mode from 2014-16 with an intakes 250 sudents to different centres and 25 each ANUand Ongole Campus.

The department is offering M.Phil, Ph.D Research Programmes and conducting in service Programmesto faculty of 94 B.Ed and 9 M.Ed colleges affiliated to the university. The tenth batch M.Ed (Regular) studentsare gearing themselves to match their seniors and turn out to be worthy teacher educators. The M.Ed studentsare passing out with flying colours and securing gold medals for the past five years. There are 4 RGNFschalers and 2 UGC JRF - NET scholars and one PDF scholar.

Human Resource Management has been gaining a monumental place in the growing corporate world

management. Acharya Nagarjuna University has appreciably responded to this vibrant and paradigm shifts

Management, in the academic year 1994 itself. The Department of HRM owes a debt of gratitude to

Bommidala International Trading Company, Guntur, has donated Rs.20 Lakh as endowment fund for the

establishment of the department with all necessary amenities. As was predicted, the course has been faring

Department of Rural Development was started during the year 1992-93 with a view to train the studentsat post Graduate level in identifying the problems, local resources and to suggest the necessarystrategies for rural development. This course has been designed with theoretical and field workorientation to the students. Students had to go to villages in every semester and to interact with thevillagers in order to know their socio-economic conditions. Students will also organize awarenesscamps in the villages about various developmental programmes. Finally, they will submit field workreports about their findings. In this way students are imbibed field work techniques and methods. Besides,it has organised several awareness camps on rural development programmes in the selected villages.Faculty undertaken evaluation studies entrusted by District Rural Development Agency, Guntur. Facultywas associated with the rural development administration in organising workshops on variousdevelopmental programmes. Faculty, was also invited by the various development agencies as resourcepersons and also faculty is being consulted by various NGO’s in formulating project proposals and totake up Action Research projects.

The Post Graduate courses in Sociology and Social Work was started in Acharya Nagarjuna University on Self-financing basis in the academic year 1992 inresponse to the demand from the public and affiliated colleges in the University area. The then Vice-Chancellor Prof. Y.C. Simhadri an eminent Sociologist has taken theinitiate to start the above courses keeping in mind the need for post graduate programmes and research in the subjects, since the affiliated colleges were alreadyoffering these subjects at under graduate level. Since inception of these courses for the last two decades the students have been consistently getting good results andplacements in NGOs, Industries, Institutions and Govt. Departments. Apart from 6 qualified regular faculty, we have been arranging guest lectures by eminent scholarsfrom various Universities, NGOs and Industries. The syllabi of these courses have been updated from time to time keeping in view the latest developments. Intake ofthe students for Sociology is 25 and for Social Work is 40. The syllabi is designed incorporating the UGC NET requirements and also other competitive examinations likeUPSC, APPSC and for NGOs / INGOs besides the components of academic and research inputs. The students are successfully getting suitable placements throughcompetitive examinations and also pursuing higher studies and research in the academic institutions in India and abroad.

Bharat Ratna Baba Saheb Dr. B.R. Ambedkar was a great National Leader of TwentiethCentury. He was an intellectual scholar, statesman and contributed greatly in the nationbuilding. He led a number of movements to emancipate the downtrodden masses and tosecure human rights to millions of depressed classes. He has left an indelible imprintthrough his immense contribution in framing the modern Constitution of India. He standsas a symbol of struggle for achieving the social Justice. Therefore, as a befitting tribute tothis illustrious son of India, the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. Government ofIndia had setup Ambedkar Chairs in various parts of the country. The objective of setting upof such a Chair is to disseminate ideas and thoughts of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar on subjects likeConstitutional Law, Political science, Philosophy, Religion, Human Rights etc. Out of a total10 Ambedkar Chairs that were setup in country there are only two such Chairs in entireSouth India. In the state of Andhra Pradesh the credit goes only to Acharya NagarjunaUniversity for having an Ambedkar Chair on the campus. This became possible because ofthe efforts and social commitment of our beloved Vice-Chancellors. They spared no effortsin revitalizing the Chair so that the ideals and thoughts of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar may bedisseminated through teaching, training, research, seminars, research projects, publications,advocacy and extension activities.

Ambedkar Chair of Acharya Nagarjuna University had always been active in disseminationthe thoughts of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar by implementing various activities. To present briefly themain activities that was taken up by the Chair in the recent past:

* There are at present 36 research scholars doing active research leading to M.Phil/Ph.D.

* 5 minor research projects were taken up of which 3 have been completed while anotherone likely to be completed in two months.

* National Seminars on Dr. B.R. Ambedkar the making of modern India were successfullyorganized by the chair.

Dr.K.R.R Mohan Rao Centre for ScientificSocialism was established in 1985 with an objective ofconducting inter - disciplinary research in the area ofsocial sciences and humanities. Centre has beenoffering two research programmes leading to the awardof M.Phil and Ph.D respectively.

Centre has so far produced 18 M.Phils and sixPh.d’s. It has organized 15 national, state level seminarsand symposia including two international seminars.Proceedings of these seminars are published. Centrehas been published seventeen books and aroundhundred research papers.

As part of its academic activities during 2011-2012, 2012-2013, and 2013 - 2014 Centre hasorganized altogether 12 lecture programmes underOccasional Lecture Series and proceedings of thisprogrammes are also published. Telugu translation ofG.V.Plekhanov’s Fundamental Problems of Marxism ispublished by the Centre during March, 2014.

Centre has started another series entitledOccasional Dialogue series during 2014-15 andorganized first Dialogue on Indian Secularism. Prof. AlanJay Spector of USA has visited the Centre during March2015. During 2015 - 16. Centre has started anotherseries of lecture programmes keeping in of Karl Marxbi-centenary, which falls in May 2018 and organized twolecture programmes, one in December 2015 andanother in February 2016 by inviting eminent scholars,one from USA and another from Canada.

Centre for Women’s Studies was founded in 1988 with an objective topromote gender sensitivity among the people of this region under thejurisdiction of Acharya Nagarjuna University. The thirst area of thiscentre is to conduct studies on role of women in the social movementsand their role in the development of this particular region. It hasundertaken some important projects and conducted seminars on genderstudies and field based workshops. ‘Gender Audit’ one of the topicsstarted by the centre. The centre is keen in promoting awarenessagainst eve teasing and ragging. And the legal cell was also initiatedby the university which is interlinked with the centre.

Centre for Women Studies is offering research programmes ininterdisciplinary level. And we are honoring eminent womenpersonalities on the occasion of International Women’s Day on 8th

March.

On the occasion of National Integration week from 19-25th

November 2012, the Centre has conducted a lecture programme on‘Role of Women in Nation Building’. And the centre has also organizeda two day workshop on ‘Contemporary Debates on Gender Studies on27-28 Feb 2013. Recently Centre also conducted a two day nationalseminar on ‘Dimensions of Violence against Women’ on 25-26 March2013.

UGC Funded Gandhian Studies Centre was established in ANU Campus in April 2008 with the objectives:

1) To propagate the Ideals and Thoughts of Gandhi.2) To install and develop in the youth religious and communal harmony.3) To arrange for Lectures enlightening the various dimensions of Gandhian Philosophy, on a

continuous basis.4) To Honouring an eminent Gandhian for propagation of Gandhian Ideology.

To achieve these objectives, the following programmes and activities have been undertaken by theCentre.

1. To educate, acquaint and enlighten the University student community about Gandhi life andthought, elocution and essay writing competitions were conducted on Gandhi Jayanthi and MartyrsDay. Cash prizes and Books on Gandhian thought were given to the winners by the Vice-Chancellor.

2. To install and develop among students the spirit of communal harmony, the center has beenconducting the National Communal Harmony Day.

3. To get the staff, scholars, students and public acquainted with Gandhian thought, book, backvolumes and journals in the relevant areas have been procured and placed in the CentralLibrary. This will enable the students and scholars interested in Gandhian thought to undertakeresearch in the various dimensions of Gandhian thought.

4. Eminent Gandhian Scholars visited the Center and delivered lecturers on selected topics pertainingto Gandhian thought and its relevance in the different departments of the university.

5. Dr. S.N. Subba Rao, Director, National Youth Project, New Delhi delivered Prof. DavuluriRamakotaiah Endowment Lecture on the “A GREAT INDIA IS POSSIBLE” on11th February,2014 at 11.00am, Venue Prof. L. Venugopal Reddy Seminar Hall.

Prof. G. Koteswara Prasad - University of Madras delivered a lecture on “Gandhi and Non-Violence”9th Feb 2015.

Prof. A Raghuram Raju - Hyderabad Central University delivered a lecture on “The idea ofMahatma” 13th March 2015.

a) To increase the capacity of the organized sector including the Governmentto mitigate the effects of natural calamities;

b) Help in the evolution of public policies in developing early warning systemsand disaster resistant structures; and

c) Devising specific guidelines for dissemination of technical and social scienceknowledge concerning measures for assessment, prediction and mitigationof natural disasters.

d) Take up research programs on a continuing basis;

e) Provide facilities for exposure to personnel of government and NonGovernmental Organizations engaged in disaster management, communityleaders and other select publics from the vulnerable

f) Develop a documentation centre and undertake extension activity on modestscale with a view to improve public awareness about precautions and safetymeasures among the vulnerable groups of the population.

It has undertaken surveys of successive major cyclone-flood affected areasin Andhra Pradesh in 1977, 1979, 1980, 1983, 1984, 1986, 1990 and 1996, andcommunicated findings to the State Government. The DMC has collaborated withthe Indian Institute of Technology (Madras) in the Planning Commission's Projecton Natural Hazards Mitigation and cosponsored two seminars / workshops withNGO's during the VIII plan period. The faculty has published 16 research papersduring the period.

Collaborative Work was also taken up with the Indira Gandhi National OpenUniversity, New Delhi, in developing a Certificate Course on Disaster Managementwith Dr. Ambedkar Andhra Pradesh Open University, Hyderabad, in the preparationof course material relating to disaster management. At the invitation of the ICSSR,Prof. C.V. Raghavulu took up a project on Review of research on Disaster Managementin India and completed it. The faculty members have attended several national andinternational conferences / Workshops on disaster management. The DMC hassubmitted proposals to the UGC, the World Bank and the State Government fortaking up long-term projects on research and training.

Activities of the Guidance and Counselling unit:Disaster Mitigation Centre is providing guidance and counselling to the

students interested in Disaster studies and giving advise to the NGOs in the policymaking in the area of community development and service in the realms of disastermitigation.

Explain the plans of the institution for the next year.The Disaster Mitigation Centre proposes to start P.G. Course in Disaster Studies /P.G. Diploma in Disaster Studies with the approval of the UGC. The centre needs tobe strengthened by UGC grants to conduct Workshops / Seminars / Symposiums /Research Projects for better research and dissemination of information a knowledgeabout disasters to the general public.

DISASTER MITIGATION CENTREActivities reflecting the goals and objectives of the institution :

Goals and Objectives :

1. Genesis: A.U.P.G. Centre Library started in 1967 was upgraded as Dr. B.R.Ambedkar Libraryw.e.f. 19-08-1976, with a collection of 18,900 books initially.

2. Collection: Total Collection as on 31-3-2015 is 1,40,350 which includes Books and Back Volumesof Journals - 1,31,869, Micro films & Microfiche - 181, Theses - 5,000, and Government Reports -3,250. The Library receives 310 Periodicals.

3. Services: Circulation Services, Document Delivery Service, Inter Library Loan Service, ReferenceService, Documentation Service, Reprography, Access to INFLIBNET Databases.

4. Xeroxing facility: Students & Teachers of this Library can have Xerox copies of their requirementof Library material only. They are charged at the rate of 0.50 paisa per copy.

5. Internet Facility: Teachers, Research Scholars and Students of this University can utilize Internetfacility on working days, as per the guidelines of the library.

6. Orientation Training: Library staff conducts Orientation Programmes on purposeful and effectiveusage of the Library to the newly admitted students of different departments at the beginning of theyear.

7. S.C & ST Students Book Bank: There is a Book Bank facility exclusively for S.C and S.T studentsof all courses. They can borrow books from this Book Bank.

8. Competitive Examination Cell: There is a separate cell in the I Floor of the library for the competitiveexaminations books, which are useful for all the competitive examinations. These books are not forLoan.

9. Computerization: The NewGenLib is an integrated Library management software being used toautomate the library operations . The databases of books & Back Volumes of Journals, Thesesand Periodicals numbering 1,05,000, 3,500 and 380 respectively are created so far. Online PublicAccess Catalogue (OPAC) is available in the Library for users to search the catalogue.

The National Service Scheme, popularly known as ‘NSS’was launched in Mahatma Gandhiji’s Birth Centenaryyear, 1969, aimed at developing student’s personalitythrough community service. NSS is a voluntary associationof young people in Colleges, Universities and at +2 levelsworking for a campus-community linkage. The cardinalprinciple of the NSS Programme is that it is organized bythe students themselves, and both students and teachersthrough their combined participation in communityservice, get a sense of involvement in the tasks of nationbuilding. National Service Scheme (NSS) is a permanentYouth Programme under the Ministry of Youth Affairs andSports, Govt. of India and funded by Government ofAndhra Pradesh and Government of India in the ratio of5:7.

Objectives: The main objectives of National ServiceScheme (NSS) are

Dr. P.P.S. Paul Kumar, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Physical Education and Sports has been appointed as newNSS Coordinator for NSS Cell, ANU. He has assumed the office of NSS Cell on 21.03.2016 and took charge from Dr. K.Madhu Babu, Assistant Professor, Department of Economics, Acharya Nagarjuna University.

CENTRE FOR DISTANCE EDUCATION

The University started the Centre for Distance Education (CDE)from the Academic year 2003-04 with two UG courses and ten PGcourses. There was a tremendous response from the students and 7,345students joined the above 12 courses in 2003-04

Keeping in view the demands of the students, the CDE has alsostarted the Calendar year batch for the UG courses from January 2004.In addition to the above courses, the University has started M.Sc., (Botany,Zoology, Microbiology, Chemistry and Physics) from the Calendar batchof January 2004.

The response from the in-service teachers, employees, housewivesand dropout students was overwhelming and 3,244 students joined PGscience courses and another 1805 students joined BA/B.Com., for theCalendar year batch January, 2004. 17,379 students were admittedduring the Academic year 2004-2005 for 17 courses offered by the CDE.

During the Academic year 2005-06 CDE has started B.A. (English),B.A. (Telugu), B.A. (Maths), B.Sc. (M.P.C., B.Z.C., M.S.Cs., IT), B.B.M.,M.A (Social Work), M.A (Psychology), M.H.R.M., C.A. courses and also9 Management Diploma courses.

Several new courses were added in the subsequent batches andtotal number of courses reached 144 during the Academic batch 2008-2009. As per the directions of UGC, DEC and APSCHE, the CDE haswithdrawn the courses like M.Tech., B.Tech., M.Phil., Ph.D., in the Calendarbatch 2009 and the total number of courses offered by CDE duringAcademic year 2014-15 stood at 98.

The website of CDE www.anucde.ac.in provides all the requiredinformation to the students and services like e- learning material. whichis recently made available to the enrolled students to enrich theirknowledge in their concern subjects. CDE also provides SMS alert tothe students regarding payment of tuition fee, exam results, postponementof exams and other important information. Through CDE website studentscan download their identification cards, hall tickets and registerthemselves as alumni. The students can register their phone number toget SMS alerts. CDE has provided a blog for the students to post theircomments, which would be replied in regular intervals. CDE has alsoprovided a financial requisition form for the needy students, so thatphilanthropic donors can help them financially for their education. Furtherthe website of CDE also provided a form for the job seekers, which ishelpful for many to get an appropriate job for their qualification.

CDE is planning to start few online programmes at National andInternational level which would help many students across the globe.

Acharya Nagarjuna University was accredited byNational Assessment and Accreditation Council(NAAC) in 2003 as with B++ for the first time. Asper the guidelines of the NAAC every accreditedHigher Educational Institution has to establish anInternal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC). AccordinglyAcharya Nagarjuna University has establishedIQAC soon after assessment by NAAC in 2003. Itwas inaugurated by Dr. V. S. Prasad, the thenDirector of NAAC.

The basic objectives of IQAC in an accreditedinstitution are:

1. To ensure continuous improvement in theentire operations of the institutions; and

2. To assure stakeholders connected withhigher education of the accountability of theinstitution for its own quality and probity.

Its intended functions are:

1. Development and application of qualitybench marks/parameters in variousactivities of the institution;

2. Dissemination of information on qualityaspects;

3. Organization of discussions, workshops,seminars and promotion of quality circles;

4. Recording and monitoring qualitymeasures of the institution;

It promotes the policy of imparting qualityeducation in the institutions affiliated to AcharyaNagarjuna University. The necessary databaseuseful for presentation at Governmental and otherlevels to assess the quality performance of theUniversity is also being undertaken by IQAC. It alsoundertakes the collection and analysis of feedbackfrom students and their parents every year.

Acharya Nagarjuna University is one of the foremostaccredited educational institutions to haveestablished IQAC for a continuous monitoring ofquality education. An associated advisory bodycalled Quality Advisory Committee is alsoconstituted for guiding IQAC on the right path. IQAC,along with a duly constituted steering committee,played an important role in the reaccreditationprocess of Acharya Nagarjuna University in the year2010. With the support and encouragement of theUniversity administration, the IQAC of AcharyaNagarjuna University is doing its best for an overallmaintenance of the quality parameters of theacademic and the administrative components ofAcharya Nagarjuna University.

The Concept of Finishing School is gaininglot of prominence now a days, especially duringthe on going period of economic recession worldwide. Since the traditional courses at the UG andPG levels have broadly failed in imparting thespecifice job skills to the graduates, they areremaining unemployable. In other words, there isa skill gap identified between what is acquired bygraduates and what is expected by the industries.In order to address this skill gap in the short run,the APSCHE has come out with certain modulesto train students in the requirementsts of theindustry. The school which undertakes thisresponsibility of imparting training to the graduates,in the specific requirement of the industry is calleda Finishing School.

The demand for skilled / employablegraduates has been steadily increasing. During1990s and early 2000, in IT and ITES sectors suchdemand was felt. After 2005, several jobopportunities opened up in many other sectors suchas Banking, Insurance, Hospitality, Tourism,Medical Transcription and Retailing. During thepresent age of recession, employers hardlycompromise on the employable skills. Hence theneed for Finishing School.

The Government of Andhra Pradesh, since2004 has been working in coordination with theindustry and has earmarked funds for the FinishingSchool's courses. Universities offering theFinishing School courses would involve industrypersonnel for guest lectures along with intershipand project in industries. Acharya NagarjunaUniversity too has joined this useful venture ofFinishing Schools from the academic year 2009 -10.

The Health Centre was established in the University Campus inthe year 1980.

A full time Lady Medical Officer Dr.B.S.Jimmy Rani, M.B.B.S.,was appointed on 12-10-1992, and also Homoeo Physician DrJ.Srinivasa Muni Swamy M.B.S.(Homoeo) was appointed onhonorarium and attending to the medical need of Students,Research Scholars and Staff. Two part time medical officers DrRavi Babu (Dr Ranga Rao Nursing Home) and Dr Sitamahalaxmiattending to the medical need of the employees who are residingat Guntur.

A wide range of cases like upper , lower respiratory tractinfections, viral fevers, Jaundice, Diarrhea, Amoebiasis, duodenalulcers, fungus infections and scabies have been successfullytreating in Our University Health Centre.

Chronic ailments like DM, Hypertension, IHD, Epilepsy, PT havebeen diagnosed in the health centre. At present the critical cases/ emergency cases are being referred to GGH Guntur and NRIHospital, Chinkakani for expert treatment.

The Homoeopathic treatment extended to students and staff onweekly twice i.e Tuesday & Friday.

Free Dental Checkup available for Dental treatment to studentsand staff on weekly twice i.e Wedsday & Thursday by SibarDental College & Hospital, Takkellapadu, Guntur.

The University has entered into MOU with NRI Medical College& General Hospital, Chinakakani, 30% discount on investigationsto Students and 15% to the University Employees.
