Basic Information

• The following topics will be in multiple choice format.

• Continents are the largest land areas on the Earth.

Relative location describes where a place is located in relation to other places.

• The global address of the United States is on the continent of North America.

• The Appalachian Mountains are located in the eastern part of the United States.

• The Rocky Mountains are located in the western part of the United States.

• The Great Basin has land that is dry, mostly desert land with higher land around it.

• A delta is formed when silt builds up at a river’s mouth.

Vocabulary

• These questions will be matching.

• The equator is an imaginary line that circles the globe.

• An isthmus is a narrow piece of land that connects two larger land areas.

• Elevation means the height of the land.

• The place where a river empties into a larger body of water is called the river’s mouth.

• The wearing away of the earth’s surface is called erosion.

• Precipitation is made up of water in the form of rain, sleet or snow.

• A product is something that people make or grow, usually to sell.

Additional Skills to Practice

• Be able to identify lines of latitude (steps of a ladder) and lines of longitude (long sides of ladder).

• Be able to identify the latitude and longitude of a particular place.

• Given the latitude and longitude, you are able to identify the city.
